Super cool man! I watched the instruction video before using and it worked exactly like you said! *Duh* It was nice to be able to turn off the hit detector as I run multiple tabs. Also, I liked that it created its own little home for downloads so they don't get mixed up with my other files. It rocks! Recommend.

No he tenido problemas. Sigue siendo la mejor extensión para descargar multimedia.

Doesn't work for.. youtube?! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Apart from the annoying downloads that require a converter (sure.. As-if you can't just download the raw files and let me convert it manually) there doesn't seem to be a option that works to download simple youtube video's.

I understand you want to make money but just make your entire extension paid if you can't use it properly for free.

Muy buen complemento. Realmente funciona en muchos sitios y día a día va mejorando.

I've been using this add-on for years now and these new updates are amazing. Keep up the good work!

The best downloader for videos.

Release 5 = without me! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

After long ride with VDH, this upgrade sucks. After awhile, my clips comes with a 3D code bar integrated in a corner. Sorry, but from now, I'll turn over a new Firefox's module. Thanks for the marvelous work you did...until release 5!

This add-on started as donationware. When the version 5 came out, there was a statement that it requires a converter which is a public domain freeware software, a little tricky to configure and install, so it was delivered as a convenient package with the installer. A few weeks later, "public domain freeware" evolved into converter which has to be licensed.

Don't get me wrong, I am perfectly fine with people wanting to be paid for their work. This add-on is regularly updated, and it takes a lot of time and effort to keep it and improve it. It is fair to ask to be paid. However, there are several very big issues with the approach which this developer took.

1. Apparently, the developer asks to pay for use of software (converter) which, as he stated himself when version 5 was released but not yet approved by Firefox, is a public domain freeware. I am not sure if this is even legal.

2. The program now is definitely shareware. However, the description states that it is free. It is not free. With the huge stamp which it leaves on the downloaded videos, it is useless in its free version.

3. If you want to buy it, you have to face a significant risk. The software vendor no longer accepts Paypal. They ask for your credit card. And yet, there is absolutely no contact information for the person or company behind it - no address, not even a telephone number, no company name, not even the country where this person is located. There is only a web-based contact form. Basically, you are just asked to provide your credit card number in a blind faith that it is a legitimate business who will not misuse it and who has means to protect it. I personally never give my card number to shady businesses without any contact information. I try to avoid them, but if I can't, I use paypal. There are workarounds - virtual single-use credit card numbers, but they are a hassle to use.

The price close to $30 also seems to be a little steep for a shareware which does the same thing as many (free) alternatives, but this is the least of my complaints - every software manufacturer has right to set any price they want and gamble that the market will accept it.

It is a pity that the add-on which was so good took this direction of development.

Our model has not changed since 2008: free product + extra converter feature to pay for development (sorry we have to eat too).
1. you do not pay for the converter which is under GPL (and it would be perfectly legal to charge for it, which we don't do). You pay (if you want to) for the conversion service. We could have charged something else to make a living from, but that way was convenient for everyone.
2. it is free except for conversion which you are not compelled to use. Again, this has worked that way since 2008.
3. you do not give us your credit card number (we never get and don't want to have this information), you do so to stripe.com which is a well-known web payment operator (https://stripe.com). This is exactly the same way you used to do on PayPal.

i want the fast download back! the FAST download, not your keyboard AND mouse solution xD
now i have to click three times? the save option doesnt work, so every time its a: click on VDH button, then the video, and fast download...
no no no, it cant be!
just one click, like the old version.
i have to get me the old version...
get it done, or its forever 1star :(

nope, max. of 3, if im doing this ^^
with the old version you just had to klick the VDH button, now you have to press shift? why? why? whyyyy????
/ i could use that or a kombo of buttons, like STRG+D but why? whats the point in throwing the one click on the app-button out?

You have that feature from the companion button since 5.0.1 (hold SHIFT when clicking the button) and 5.1.2 with the companion button. Check http://www.downloadhelper.net/howto.php
So is it a 5 stars now ? :)

Disable notication that VDH is updated? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

VDH updates in background but it brings up a new tab and shift focus to this new tab, which can be quite annoying for some users.

So, it would be great if there is an option to disable the notification that VDH has been updated.

Thanks. :-)

Not working anymore Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The icon is up there as usual, but the add-on is not working. It is spinning (the icon) and it has some kind of a little number on it. Like i have 8 new messages or something. But nothing can be downloaded with it. No youtube or any site. Just unclickable. Tried to disable/enable. Then removed it and installed again. No difference. Needles to say how annoying the whole process was. :(

Wow...This used to be a good add-on. Developers did a good job on this add-on. Then the new update came out. Some videos need a conversion. Conversion works fine but when you watch the video, you get a stupid barcode to link to them. To get rid of that barcode, you have to buy a license. I was going to contribute then I saw the price, $28.50!!! Are you kidding me!!! GREEDY!! Yes they work hard on this add-on, but come on, $28.50. This is a video downloader, not a game or a video editing software. $28.50!!! Developers are out of their minds to charge that much. If it allowed trimming, color balance, audio/video split, special effects, cropping and audio editing, I still wouldn't buy that. I can get video editing programs for that price. This is a video downloader, not editor. And this conversion is only needed for SOME videos, not all.

It used to be great Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have been using this add-on for years and recently it's been "updated" and now it asks me to install a converter and pay to use it properly. I have other, better ways of downloading videos now so I guess it's good the developer has ruined this add-on. Also, apparently the developer is a whiny baby who is trying to defend his shady practices by saying all these bad reviews are wrong, don't listen to him.

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

So I have nothing really to say, bad or positive about differences between old and new VDH. It still does what it is supposed to do, and the way it does it doesn't really bother me. Plus it gives us support for ADP videos, but....
About that ADP videos business. I understand that the dual files video/audio issue require some method of aggregating them. But it doesn't really require an re-encoding process that adds a water-mark that sometimes is just so big it is on verge of being retarded. Every single video that was ADP I copied the temporary video and audio files (before the converter did its job and removed them), and just dropped them into MKVToolNix. All that program does is just put them into *.mkv container. Files work flawlessly, have no water-mark, no sync issues, and whats the most important - are not re-encoded in the background to add that said water-mark, so we keep 100% you-tube quality.
So my question is like this: Could you add an option to allow us "advanced" users to just download both video and audio files, and 'mux' them on our own, without the need for installing that converter app and playing with coping temp files? If so I could give VDH even 5 stars, but as it is right now it is worth weak 3 stars at best.

EDIT (after the response):
Yeah it is maybe a way around it. Or it would if it worked in a good way. Have 3 adaptive things at top in first list, every single stuff that is below 720p is switched off. Cant move 4th adaptive thing up - it automatically always drop to the last position. In ADP variants list I have all video-only 720p/1080p and audio-only at top. Then all 720p/1080p and then everything else unchanged as it was after 'order by video quality' (cause you cant switch them off). And yet first position in short list is non ADP, there are 360p or even worse quality options taking at least 1/4 of the whole list positions. First ADP options are audio+video...
It probably is my lack of proper knowledge about how to order those things - at least towards the ADP variants. But why its showing me crap like 144/240/360p non-ADP even I have them all disabled I don't know.
So well now the 3 stars are strong ones ;]. Two things I would like to see then:
Easier to edit, or completely redesigned quality options menu (maybe just a simple list of resolutions, and a separate list of codecs/adp variants etc?), or just added link to some guide how to set them properly?
More info in short list. Like which ADP variant it is - video-only, audio-only or both?, what is the fps, etc, maybe with an options in settings which of those infos to actually show or not.
Both changes are basically a QoL improvements and would push verdict to 4 stars. 5 stars will still require option to let us just grab v+a variants without aggregating by converter, and overall UI klutziness improvements.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (5.1.2).

You can reorder the ADP variants in the VDH settings to put an audio-only and a video-only variant at the top. This way, both streams will appear in the short list and you can download them separately.

Thank you for the support Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I was having trouble with the converter since the last update, but thanks to your step by step instructions it's now working fine again.

Much appreciated.

I used to use this for a while only for very rare occasions. So now even in those occasions this has become pretty uselss since it wants me to download soething suddenly ?!

Doesn't really matter I will download something else now.

I created this acc because I saw the provider now accusing everyone of being a secret agent or some sort of..

But no i am just a general user who's pretty upset.

I used to like this for while.

DTA integration was an awesome feature. Don't need this addon if that's not going to be there.
