Quintessential Addon Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I am using it for years.it is excellent in its job.

One small REQUEST though.Is it possible to have the Ignore Case option in the Search Text tab, always enabled?

The thing is i usually use capital letters when searching text because of my eyesight problem,but i always forget to enable this option.As an expected result,it doesnt find the desired text in the tabs although it does exist because it is usually in small letters.

Sometimes i will remember to enable the Ignore Case option and do a successful search/re-search and other times i will have forgotten completely about it and i will think that the text doesnt exist at all.

So is it there any way i can have this option always enabled? it's the only thing for me,that this addon misses to become perfect.

Perfect addon, well thought-out, best for find tabs, filter tabs or search text in tabs.

Complement to it: switch to location bar (“Ctrl-L”), type “%”, space, search text.

Default shortcut conflicts with “Tab Utilities” and also duplicates current tab. So I've changed shortcut to “Ctrl-Shift-F”.

Feature request: please, save window size.

Finally; a tab-searching extension that works properly. One star off for not being marked as compatible with Beta/Aurora, but perfect otherwise.

Excellent extension but need an easy way to resize window for ever Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I can't find this file called "selectTabDialog.js". I can't find it in the whole "Users" folder! I'm using windows 7 ultimate. Any clue?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.2.1-signed).

I know, I know, I need to do this...

You can find the file in two places:
#1: cd C:\Users\<you>\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\<your-secret-id>.default\extensions\tabhunter@ericpromislow.com\chrome
unzip tabhunter.jar => content/selectTabDialog.js

#2. Get the source, and possibly contribute a fix:
http://code.google.com/p/tabhunter/source/checkout -- you can find the file at
[browse]: trunk/chrome/content/

I have to admit this thing has been bugging me since Firefox 3.6 came out, but I have
too many other things on my plate to have sat down and fixed it. Thanks for the review, though --
always happy to hear from Tabhunter fans.

Re: window size not remembered Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If necessary, you can set your own Tabhunter window size:

Edit the following lines in this file: ... selectTabDialog.js

This file is located at: ... (this path is for Windows 7)

C:\Users\12\AppData\Roaming\Mozilla\Firefox\Profiles\xxxxxxxx.default\extensions\tabhunter@ericpromislow.com\chrome\content\

........the standard lines: --

if (window.innerHeight < 200) {
window.innerHeight = 270;
}
if (window.innerWidth < 300) {
window.innerWidth = 450;

........for example, change them to... this is for a 1600 x 1200 display:

if (window.innerHeight < 200) {
window.innerHeight = 600;
}
if (window.innerWidth < 300) {
window.innerWidth = 1000;

........

Now the window size is perfect ... for a 1600 x 1200 display.

Interpolate for best results.

(some) key binding not working & window size not remembered Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It gives an option to specify the key binding to bring up the Tabhunter window, but many choices of shortcut won't work, (for example, ALT + any_letter) . Before version 0.7.5, we could change the key binding to almost any shortcut (using KEYCONFIG add-on) to work.
Also the Tabhunter window size is not remembered, the next time it is invoked it falls back to the default size which is too small IMO.

Tabhunter is a great app! I use it so frequently that a real customizable shortcut and window size would be greatly appreciated!

this extension is very useful for people like me who like/need to have a lot of tabs open,
i see it stopped working on 4.0 final
but it says it worked on 4.0 beta, any fix possible for this?

This add-on does exactly what I was looking for (searches all open tabs in all windows), it provides a keyboard shortcut to operate (which I like since I tend to use the mouse only as required), and it doesn't mess with my private information. Perfect!

Although marked as not compatible with nightly builds (V4.03bpre) it does work, along with Addon Compatibility Reporter. Firefox has now added searching for open Tabs, but guess what - I still prefer using Tabhunter to find a tab.

Also use Bartab to silence inactive tabs, so now usually have over 200 tabs open. This is a Terrific Addon. I only have these 3 - Addon Compability Reporter, Bartab and Tabhunter.

I have been using Find in Tabs until now. One thing it lacks is finding across all Windows in all tabs AND most importantly, it has not been updated to work in FF 3.6.3+ Uuuugggghhh!

This is the only add-on I have seen that comes close, just not as slick, yet??? I may have to live with this one for now.

It would be nice to see a merge of the functionality of the two.

That said, I also have some bugs:
1. Opening Tabhunter add-on prefs window creates a Javascript error "Parent Window is null"
2. I get an error when trying to change settings: "onSubmit: TypeError: this.prefs is undefined", sot it will not save the changes

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.7).

Yeah, I know about those bugs

I need to find time to redo the prefs manager as an XPCOM object (in case you were wondering). Thanks for the review though.

Been agitating on the Firefox Developers list for a year or two for the Awesome Bar to search tab titles and URLs as well as bookmarks and history. I often have over 100 tabs open and finding one is something I spend a lot of time doing. So far Firefox has not added this sensible functionality, but this extension does the job wonderfully. Only have 3 or 4 extensions, and this is the favourite. Thanks

Simplifies all my crazy tabs Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I am a messy tab user; I always have way too many tabs open (25+). This extension allows me to quickly filter down the tab I'm looking for, and saves both time and my sanity. Thanks for this simple but effective addon!

Find In Tabs is Better! Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Try Find In Tabs. It is MUCH better as it searches everywhere and presents results in a list. Clicking on any item in the list takes you right to the location of that occurrence on the respective tab/page.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.8.8).

Thanks for the bump

I've been happily using TabHunter, without any improvements on it, for the last year or so. I had a look at FiT, and it is pretty slick. They don't do multi-windows -- I absolutely need that. These days I have about 200 tabs up at any time in at least 6 windows. But I've started working on some improvements at home, hope to get them out over the holidays.

Would be Handier with **ALL TEXT** Search In All Open Windows and Tabs ... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A handy extension, but could be MUCH HANDIER with the added functionality of simultaneously searching not only the "Tab Titles" and URLs (as it currently does), but ALSO **THE TEXT** in body of ALL OPEN TABS of ALL OPEN WINDOWS. I like the pop-up "Results" window that mimics the FF "Downloads" window style and function. Just wish this otherwise very nice FF add-on had the added functionality of searching THE TEXT in the body of each open window's open tabs.

Since the new functionality of "Allow selection of multiple tabs for closing many tabs at once (or copying their URLs and/or titles)" was made available in Tabhunter version 0.7.6 at google code, this extension is simply wonderful!
Thank you so much!

Power browsers friend. Fast and works. However, no option to place button on the toolbar, not sure why this trend seems to be going on but my "Tools" is already cluttered beyond recognition.

The button is there for those that need it, and well, i do need it. Please consider adding it because it would be awesome. :)

Thank you for this!

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.5).

I've added it

It's available at http://tabhunter.googlecode.com/files/tabhunter-0.8.3.xpi -- if you can't wait for Mozilla to approve it, so you get the automatic upgrade, you can download it there.

Thanks for the request -- turns out it was easy to support.

Feature Requests and Congratulations! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Wow - one moment I was struggling to find a tab in the 100 I have open, and the next I fortunately discovered your wonderful extension which solves one of my few long-standing annoyances with Firefox.I have just a couple of suggestions which could make this extension even better...1) a button to the right of the pattern box that clears the entry and hence lists all the tabs unfiltered2) to be able to use CTRL and SHIFT to select multiple tabs in the list, select "close tab" and to close them all in one action.If these are done, it will be a perfect extension!Thank you for your hard work and congratualations for your achievement!
UPDATE - I don't know whether you will see this update, but I will try to edit this review to post a suggestion.Since tab groups has become a standard feature of Firefox, it would be nice to have a column added to the tabhunter search window to show which group each tab belongs. Also, after selectively selecting the tabs that fit with a search criteria, it would be great to be able to right click and move all these tabs in one go to a different existing tab (if they aren't a member of the group already). I hope you know what I mean.I still love this extension regardless, though, just as I said in Feb 2009. ;) Keep up the amazing work!

PS. Another user has requested a way to close duplicate tabs. Be aware that there is already an excellent extension to do this, called Closy.

Multiple-Tab selection has been rolled out

Hi, Hal, I finally discovered that if I'm logged in, I can reply to reviews.

Thanks for your recommendation. I've found out that Tabhunter isn't for everyone, but for those of us who work or research on the web, it does the job. That was a good idea on multiple-selection, so I've implemented it. I still need to test it on Linux and Windows, but I've put the XPI up for download at http://tabhunter.googlecode.com/files/tabhunter-0.7.6.xpi.

As for the first suggestion, you can do the same thing by pressing Ctrl-A and delete when the cursor is in the pattern field. I'm not convinced that another button would be more convenient. I like minimal interfaces, and find Tabhunter is already getting more cluttered than I'd like.

Thanks again,
Eric

Great extension!!
one feature request: add tab title to search scope. It would be amazing if the full text of tabs could be searched.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.5).

Tabhunter already searches titles

Hi, Regis, Thanks for taking the time to review Tabhunter.

It's been searching titles and URLs for some time, but I've drawn the line there. While it's tempting to do a search on full documents, I typically have close to 200 tabs loaded in Firefox, and don't think I could search all of them quickly enough for the addon to stay useful.

Thanks again,
Eric
