CoolPreviews

Can't fix stupid! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I've said it here before, and I'll say it here again; bloat is bad!

CoolPreviews is an add-on that is supposed to add a preview functionality to the browser. The search engine bloat was bad enough, but now Liveshare? No thanks, uninstalled, have a nice day.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.6).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Paste Email (original)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Stable, lightweight, and original. It's by far the most helpful context menu command.

Good extensions offer solutions, not bloat. With that being said, Cool Previews offers much of the former, but unfortunately too much of the latter.

Cool Previews offers the user an intuitive means of facilitating searches and general web browsing alike. Tab bar space and unnecessary mouse clicks are saved by means of a preview window, which may in turn be pinned or stacked.

Preferences should be adequate for the normal user, especially if utilizing the add-on tool bar (which is the only tool bar that allows the Cool Previews shortcut icon). However, more advanced users will find it frustrating that such an intuitive extension cannot be fully customized.

If my review would have stopped at the last paragraph, Cool Previews would be a four star extension in my humble opinion. However, the developers must hold the conviction that their product's users need a customized search engine not only in the preview window (which can be removed), but in the browser's context menu as well (cannot be removed). Search tools are very useful, but there are specific extensions that serve such a purpose.

Nuke Anything Enhanced

Unpretentious and Lightweight Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Nuke Anything Enhanced is a small, simple extension providing an arguably impractical service.

Restartless Restart

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This product sells itself.

Tile Tabs

Revolutionary! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Essential add-ons offer practical solutions to increase browser serviceability for the average internet user; however, few achieve the glory of producing a truly revolutionary browsing experience. Standing beside Adblock Plus and Greasemonkey/Scriptish on the pedestal is Tile Tabs (herein TT).

The ease of customizing TT pales when compared to its manifold applications. I use TT predominantly for chat and music usage, but information research, browser and extension troubleshooting, and monitoring multiple feeds are also uses which benefit.

TT is here to stay. The developer is very active and provides continual stable updates and prompt support.

TT can be used out the box, but I recommend experimenting and tweaking the options to acquire maximum usability.

Tab Utilities

Lightweight Alternative to Tab Mix Plus Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have used Tab Utilites for a few months before switching over to Tab Mix Plus. Aside from the session manager built into TMP, both offer relatively the same options. The features that TU offers over its competitors are the toggle buttons allowed on the add-in bar and a myriad "hidden options" inserted into the preferences.js file(about:config). My personal favorite toggle button was the "Open all links in a new tab," which made browsing forums very easy.

I will rate this product with five stars. Reasoning, despite my personal preference, is that it's a very powerful albeit lightweight tab manager that's updated often.

Tab Mix Plus

Everything as expected and more Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I tried TMP after using Tab Utilities for months. For the most part, it offers more options, and in more detail. Two features that I am most impressed with are the menu editor and the native tab icons. The menu editor allows editing the page context, tab context, and tools menus separately.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.4.0.2).

Menu Editor

Featured Rating Rated 2 out of 5 stars

This add-on should not be featured. It hasn't been updated in over a year and has compatibility issues with various add-ons.

I found this add-on extremely useful for removing undesirable context menu commands. Additionally, native Firefox commands within the menu bar can be customized. However, at no fault to ME's developer, conflicts do arrive with certain other add-ons that create and/or modify menu commands. The developer explains this impediment in his forum.

Lighting&Foamy

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

The signature is not cute and detracts an otherwise awesome theme.

lucky Bamboo

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Lose the getpersonas url that displays in the add-on tool bar.

Adblock Plus

6 Stars Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This addon offers a completely different internet experience. Boosts privacy and load times, and browsing is much easier on the eyes.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.0.3).

Greasefire

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A very useful tool for both Greasemonkey and Scriptish. I would like to see the available scripts window open in a new tab instead.
