Some Issues... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Worked great for a few days, but now seems to be blocking too much content (i.e. things that aren't comments) on the site I mainly got it to block comments on (http://www.theguardian.com).

Wonderful extension.

One thing could be better. When I click on a pic in facebook and it opens the pop-up window thingie, the comments are visible. Any way to fix this?

Works great to hide youtube comments section. This speeds up the site quite a bit as well.

A request to the respectable developers: provide customizable keyboard shortcuts for left-click, right-click, middle click action. As a VimFx addon user, I really miss this feature.

It never was perfect- but it gave a powerful and much needed function.

Unfortunately the developer is overwhelmed and someone needs to fork this to maintain development. In my limited contact with him he seemed like a decent fellow- but for development to move forwards it probably needs someone else to take over.

So far this protects you like not scrolling down to the comment section Rated 3 out of 5 stars

When I read that it "blocks, or hides, all unwanted comments on websites you visit" I misunderstood this as having some selection criteria to block specific users or commentators. This simply hides the entire comment section on specific pages, which anyone can block simply by not scrolling down to the comments or looking down.

So far as I can find, there is nothing currently available that helps users avoid posts from known trolls while leaving the discussions of interest intact. If this could be expanded to blacklist specific usernames so their posts were either blank or a strike-through font, this would be incredibly popular. It would need to work on comment hosting services like Disqus, YouTube and WordPress, but just those three services would address most of the flame wars out there.

Thanks! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I did the first advice, found how to do the second too (just added youtube.com in Listed Sites and unchecked Trust Listed Sites). Very useful add-on, I almost gave up I can find something that really blocks the comments in YT.

Does exactly what it advertizes, it still has room for improvements Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I have been using this add-on for quite a while now and it has improved my experience while being on the internet tremendously.

I only have a few issues. I think it could be made more clear how websites need to be entered into the whitelist/blacklist field. I'm used to Leechblock accepting only the domain name and therefore this option didn't work until I've read a user review and the help on the official website until it was clear to me that "*." or "www." needs to prepended for the option to work.

The last suggestion I can make is what the add-on blocks. I understand the developer's reasoning that the internet is so huge and varied in its HTML coding that website-specific hacks would be ridiculous. I haven't looked at the source code but I suspect that the add-on blocks everything that has the string "comment" in a <div> id, name or class attribute. Why not give us the option to maintain a list of our own strings? This would enable the add-on to also block comments on non-English websites, which tend to declare their div-tags in their language.

Bye to all those stupid comments. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm sick of watching stupid comments in sites like youtube and with this extension is finally possible to block them.
The extension works fine, i have no problems with the browser, everything works cool.
I wish this add-on could do it with the facebook social plugin comments too.

One of my faves, with one minor flaw Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This has been one of the add-ons that I immediately install with a fresh d/l of Firefox. Love that I can just make comments go away rather than risk the buzzkill of stupid, stupid commenters.

However, it is a bit over-enthusiastic about what it blocks. It also hides all form fields with the name/id "comment", which on many sites includes the search box or login box. It means that I have to submit certain forms twice, and occasionally miss feedback boxes that are not visible onscreen at first glance.

Perhaps there's a way to adjust it so that it only blocks CSS "comments" in static text and skips over "comments" in form fields?

won't whitelist google.com part deux Rated 4 out of 5 stars

your listed email address isn't working.

I'm using Win7 x64 and x32 SP1, FF 13.0.1, CommentBlocker 3.0.4

google.com is being ignored by whitelist

The text you chose for the prompt for entry into the whitelist is "URL".

Your reply on mozilla's site stated the entries should be domains.

Suggest you change the prompt and include an example in the prompt.

It's useful, but there are 2 major sites/groups of sites on which it has some big drawbacks: 1. youtube - it blocks your inbox too. I tried *.youtube.com/inbox* and some other combos but it doesn't work; if I mark this domain safe by clicking the icon it shows all the comments on videos sadly; 2. io9, gizmodo and the sites like them. It blocks the whole page or it shows the whole page, including the comments. Please make it support those sites or at least post how to use the youtube inbox without showing all the comments on video pages or turning it on/off every time a message is received or must be sent.

LE: I've read your reply, thanks for the fast input. Well, I get it although i don't understand why the youtube inbox can't be excepted from filtering as it seems to have a unique url, with *inbox* in it. But anyway - thank you!

Unfortunately, it's simply not viable to implement website specific rules as one would have to work with that indefinitely because of the internet's sheer size. The addon will filter out what looks like a comment in the HTML/CSS markup provided, and most sites does this "properly".

A greater sanity preserver than AdBlock! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

With the so-called Web 2.0 came a flood of rampant stupidity that seems to permeate every corner of the internet. What we have is a zero-effort, faux-social digital milieu, where interaction seems to default to the most base of human emotions, where dialogue seems to consist exclusively of hate-filled diatribes. This extension is invaluable, in that it removes those annoyances and puts the focus back on the content instead of the mindless, aggressive howling of billions of people who should know better. No more do you have to be bothered by racism, misogyny, homophobia, et al.

This extension is simple to use and easily maintained, with practically zero bugs. (None that I have noticed, anyway.) It's everything that an extension should be, and it will remain in my add-on list for all time.

One question, though: Will it be updated to work with newer versions of Firefox Mobile?

I do not know how I missed that bug on the mobile platform. This is fixed in 3.0.4!

Doesn't Support StumbleUpon Rated 3 out of 5 stars

As a conservative, I vehemently loathe 99% of all comments so this add-on is perfect for me. The only problem is that this add-on does not recognize comments on sites that are being displayed through StumbleUpon which, unfortunately, is the vast majority of the sites I view. Otherwise, this would be a great add-on.

Excellent idea. Spending far less time reading dumb comments on many websites... Plus very easy to turn off on websites displaying comments I may be interested in. Thanks for this !
