My Reviews

Tab Killer

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I love the idea of this extension, and dislike using tabs instead of windows to manage my browsing (why duplicate the functions of the taskbar?). I also use a lot of Firefox add-ons, so it took me a while to figure out that this was the one that was causing an extra blank window to open whenever I clicked on a link in and email message displayed in Kmail. I'm not sure how far this problem extends, and if you don't have it, this may be just what you're looking for.

Littlefox for Firefox

Nice, but Scrollbar Slider Nearly Invisible Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like the extra room this gives me, but the unselected slider button on the scrollbar does not contrast enough with the rest of the bar.

translator

Incomplete Translations Rated 4 out of 5 stars

On long page I translated, the translation quit partway down. I tried it several times. Don't know whether it was the addon or the translation site.

Plain Text Links

URL Selection Glitch? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I use this addon, but double clicking a url that doesn't have a space on either side selects the additional text, so I have to do the selection manually and use the context menu to open. Still better than dragging it to the address bar, and I like the options to use a new window or the existing one.

Tab Killer

If You Hate Tabs, You'll Like this Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm a tab hater. I still don't see now they help anything. Most of the time, I'd rather see a link in the same window and use forward and back to navigate. When I want to open a page in a new window, I can do it with the context menu or by opening a new window and pasting the url into the address bar. I prefer the keyboard shortcuts for using my KDE taskbar to select windows to using the primitive keyboard tools for navigating tabs. Die tabs, die!!!

Extended Copy Menu

Very Handy Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of the first extensions I miss when I use a system that doesn't have it installed.

Define Word

Flexible and Convenient, But Needs Audio Pronunciations Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Customizable, and comes with lots of dictionaries already loaded, but no dictionary that has audible pronunciations without the need to register (and pay!). Do yourself a favor and add www.howjsay.com with the following url: http://www.howjsay.com/index.php?word={search}

Aardvark

The Most Powerful of the Object Zappers Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is the most powerful and flexible of the object zappers, and works great when you want to print only the useful part of a page. It is elegantly designed, but takes some learning. If you want something simpler and less powerful, try Nuke Anything.

QuickRestart

Gotta Have Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Whenever I configure a new Mozilla installation, this is one of the first extensions I install. Even though 3.0 offers you a restart button when you install or remove an addin that requires it, there are lots of other times I want to restart, and this baby is always waiting to do a quick restart.

PDF Download

Shouldabinafeecha Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Once you use this, you'll wonder why it's not a basic feature of Mozilla.

Nuke Anything Enhanced

Simple but Helpful Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Not as flexible as Aardvark, but works with 3.0. Nice undo feature.

NoScript Security Suite

What it Does, It Does Well Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This tool will give you detailed control over what domains may execute scripts in your browser. This can sometimes be confusing. I often find myself wondering which of the many domains that are trying to execute scripts at media sites I need to enable to get the blasted video to play. The "temporarily allow" option and "revoke temporary permissions" options are very handy for this, but sometimes I wonder whether it's worth all the bother.

Myibidder Auction bid sniper for eBay ("Snipe it")

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Some rough edges, it could use a good tutorial, and it can fail to place a bid if your computer is off, or you have set it to turn itself off when you close the browser and your browser is off, or you change your password without reinstalling to tell it your new one, or who knows what else. All the same, very useful if you avoid the pitfalls and don't rely on it 100% for a must-have item.

Xmarks Sync

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If you're using Firefox, this is the best of the bookmark synchronizers. Switched from Google's service. Used to have occasional server delays. Seems better now. Indispensable if you use more than one computer to browse the web.

CustomizeGoogle

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Useful, easy to use, and easily customizable. Wish it let you adjust the number of results shown on a page or the number of pages displayed at once (as Repagination did in versions before 3.0).
