PDF Viewer

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Nice start to tackle an important lack on FF on Macs, but still this one has severe display errors. Reverted to Schubert-IT's plugin, which has limited functionality, but still works even with FF 18.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.1).

PDF Plugin for Firefox on Mac OS X

tweaked to work with FF 17, but fails on 18 Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I had a tweaked version of the plugin which worked with FF up to version 17.x, but when I upgraded to 18 today, it immediately crashes FF. Reverted to the (worse) Schubert-IT plugin.

PDF display in FF on a Mac is an old and important problem, but still not solved :-(

PDF Plugin for Firefox on Mac OS X

Firefox 6 Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Just installed FF6. The plugin worked (32 bit mode) in an empty test profile (copied the files over from an existing installation), but now with my original profile it doesn't work. I had to alter install.rdp accordingly (<em:maxVersion>6.0.*</em:maxVersion>), of course. Any hintzs? Using Schubert-Plugin now.

Firefox 6? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It's a bit weird to see major Firefox releases coming every second month or so - but so be it. Anyone knows if the max version renaming trick and running FF in 32bit mode will also work for Firefox 6? I don't really like the Schubert plugin (no strong arguments, just like this lean and mean PDF Plugin better). Thank you!

thank you, Sternkrabbe! That worked well, now I got this plugin working in FF 4.0.1 in 32-bit mode. What is actually the drawback (if there is any) between having FF running in 32-bit mode vs. 64-bit mode?

Just tried to install 4.0 and then the plugin from the link. Failed, too - it says it's not compatible with 4.0 either. BOARRR.... How did you guys get that to work?

It still doesn't work. Just did a fresh install of FF 4.0.1 on my home machine and it still says that it's not compatible with 4.0.1. How did you get it to work? Did you install the add-on on 4.0.1 or on 4.0 and upgraded FF later on?

I just noticed that the old PDF Browser Plugin from SchubertIT (http://www.schubert-it.com/pluginpdf/) will work in FF 4.0.1. The browser has to be launched in 32-bit mode, though. It's better than nothing, although I like the Google PDF Plugin much more than the SchubertIT thing. Both plugins seem to be abandoned, unfortunately. I really don't understand why FF on MacOS X still lacks a decent PDF Plugin that is being developed further. HTH!
