Simply horrible since 5.x. I simply want to download video in ORIGINAL FORMAT. I never ever want or need to convert. With versions 5.x, you HAVE to install a converter (which 2 antivirus programs identify as malware). If you go to the FAQ, there are instructions for disabling the converter... but they do NOT work (as many other reviewers have noticed).
This add-on just went from best to absolute worst of the lot. Don't even think of installing it. There are several other add-ons other than VDH that do the job without fracking up your PC or forcing you to install unwanted, unecessary, and dangerous third-party converters.
I'd give VDH 5+ it a NEGATIVE 5 stars if possible. It's that bad.
(responding to Mig's comments):
YES, YES and YES. Mig, you shouldn't berate users for leaving honest and true reviews of your buggy and dangerous product. Your support 'forum' is a joke as well (FF users, please go there and read it; you'll see what I mean). You show your true face when you respond the way you do to honest reviews.
If you note, I gave one of the former 4.x versions of VDH a great review; this is no longer the case with 5.x
You have made a formerly good product (VDH) not only buggy, but dangerous. It is useless without the separate install of 3rd-party "converters," which I am assuming you are now forcing down FF user's throats for $ gain? (Pardon if I am wrong, yet your many competitors' products are not buggy, do not require 3rd party add-ons). Your instructions for avoiding the conversion DO NOT WORK, as honest users here have reported time and time again!
I will never use one of your products again, even if you start playing nice, stop berating honest reviewers, and make VDH safe & useful again. I hope you have a super life, without me and thousands of other people who are abandoning your products.
Versions 4.x worked great and were simple. Versions 5+ are gaudy, unecessarily complicated, and sometimes buggy. Where is the "download queue" that was available before? Don't make things MORE complicated; apps should be as simple as possible. Also, you are now forced to use a "converter" rather than simply downloading the native video file; this requires a 3rd party download of a conveter, which 2 antivirus programs flag as dangerous malware (I'm not the only one who has seen this; see the other negative reviews since March 2015!). AVOID VDH.
mig, you didn't address the HUGE issue of forced conversion via malware-ridden 3rd party converters. I will never use VDH again, nor should anyone with a brain.
I like this one a lot, but it won't let me access my Gmail CONTACTS. I have to disable this extension to see them. (Firefox 35.0.1, as of March 2015). Hopefully this will be fixed soon, in which case it would get 5 stars.
Used to work fairly well but now does nothing. No memory is released at all. Please test with FF 35 ! Thank you.
It rocks. Allows a simple and intuitive method of adding a special "bookmark" row (yes, TooManyTabs actually stores its info in Bookmark folders). Super easy to use with right-click functionality. Easy to toggle on/off as needed. Recommended. I use this along with easy restart to cut way down on FF memory usage.
One caveat: As with any such app, you are actually adding Bookmarks. TMT makes it easy to do so... so easy that you may wind up with thousands, which can slow your browser a bit. This is NOT the apps fault! Just be sure to occasionally go thru your bookmarks and clean them up, removing any you no longer need.
Important: for safety, I disable this exension, then restart FF. Then I can safely move or rename the TMT tab folders and contents in FF's bookmark manager. Then just re-enable TMT and restart browser. Voila! If you never need to rearrange/clean, then you don't even need to do this.
A very useful app to see who is spying on you (and to prevent/allow at will). Once you run it for a couple of weeks and customize it a bit (read the easy instructions!), you'll be confident enough to hide the popups and let it do its job. Only rarely do I need to click the icon and allow something (such as a questionable redirect) that you need. 4.7 stars! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (18.104.22.168-signed).
Very useful for allowing YOU to control if Flash content plays automatically, or only when you click the button. This can speed up website page loads. I especially like putting the little icon to "Allow/Disallow Flash from this site" button on the toolbar for ease of use. Great app. Thank you! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (22.214.171.124-signed).
Makes download process much easier. I like all the customizable settings, though occasionally there is a small glitch here or there. Overall one of the best apps I've found, and I use it frequently. Highly recommended for sheer usefulness and easy of use. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (126.96.36.199-signed).
I use this along with Video Download Helper. Between the 2, there is rarely a time when I can't download the content I need. It works a bit differently from its competitors, but I like its features and think it is easy enough for most people to use successfully. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.48.1-signed).
Works well 90% of the time. Some sites seem to be written so that I can't click the little icon to use Password Hasher, however. I give it 4.6 stars for sheer genius, and ability to use a master 'key' (any word(s) I can easily remember) to generate nice random ones. Recommended.
3.5 stars. I found this app necessary when I upgraded to Win7 64-bit. For some reason, FF no longer works well with displaying remembered passwords correctly. When it fails (often), I can click the icon for this little app, and functionality is usually restored. I like the ability to add/edit passwords manually, as this has become necessary for some sites using weird Flash-based logins. Overall a very good app, but not perfect, as I often have to manually force it to kick in.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (188.8.131.52-signed).
This is probably my most-used FF extension. 90% of the time it does a great job in making it easy to download Flash content, but occasionally it has a glitch or two. I highly recommend it, but be aware that website gurus keep trying to find ways to defeat such apps. While VDH is great and useful, it may occasionally not be able to download some content.
I do find myself using other similar apps more often, when VDH fails or gives me a list of confusing files to choose from. Downgrading VDH to 4 stars from 5, with hopes for more future updates.
As of March 2015, VDH just went from best to WORST of the lot. You are now forced to install 3rd-party converters (riddled with malware, as MANY reviewers have noted). The developer gives instructions for disabling the necessity of a converter, but the directions do NOT work. Do NOT trust VDH!
Used to work great, but now seems to do nothing with FF 26. Pages never refresh. Hoping for update for this formerly great app. I know developers hate it when FF updates break all their work, but I'm hoping my case is an isolated one.
Does the job. Best of a poor lot of current dupe finders/cleaners.
The previous extension I used (now defunct) showed me the full URLs of dupes for safety. I could choose some or all to delete. Deduplicator is a "one click" solution that does not show full URLs or side by side comparisons. I do not trust it to safely delete duplicates when I can't compare them... but it does seem to work pretty well. I hope for a version with more features, then it would get 5 stars!
Unfortunately, unusable for me (FF 26.0), as it completely destroyed too many of my browser settings.
The app itself worked great, but when I restarted FF, the following had occurred:
* Custom search engines were deleted
* Some favorites on favorites bar moved or deleted
* Other toolbars were changed without permission
Now I'm sure this is not supposed to happen, but it did. Maybe it's FF 26 fault, and not the developers, but this is the only app I've given a current 1 star rating for, and I'm quite experienced with apps and tweaking them. I will never try "Self-Destructing Cookies" again.
