Color Text Compose Buttons

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Loves this add-on. An easy way to change text colors. I have needed something like this for a while. The other buttons are a plus.

The only request I would ask is the ability to toggle on/off ALL of the buttons, as I have no use for the math related ones, and some others are duplicative of ones I have by default. I know you can turn some on/off by groups but I rather select them individually.

MRC Compose

Thank you for this Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Fantastic extension. The way Thunderbird forces one address per line is absurd. Why Thunderbird doesn't use this style of adding multiple addresses per line separated by comma is beyond me.

The only thing I didn't like about this extension is the phrase "enter one or multiple addresses..." that appears in the "TO" box in new messages. It goes away once you start typing in the box but I found the phrase an unnecessary aesthetic intrusion, as I prefer a cleaner, blank interface. So I edited the XPI file to remove the phrase. Now it is perfect.

Very well done!!

View Source Choice

View source panel forever Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Nice extension. I prefer to view page source in a side panel and this is the only way I have found to do so. Firebug won't; AOIS won't and so on.

However, I gave it only 3 stars because there is no way to close the panel once it is opened. There is no close button on the side panel, no close option in the context menu; clicking on the page source button again just opens a window. I had to restart Firefox to get rid of the side panel. This won't do.

I like this extension but surely, it couldn't have been too much trouble to add a close option.

SmilieInserter Plus

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great add-on. Works perfectly. Thunderbird's default smilies are limited so it is nice to have the option of adding my own.

Message Notes Plus

Great Note Extension Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've tried all of the message note extensions and this one I found to be the most useful to have a persistent note attached to a specific email.

However, there are a couple of improvements that would make this even better:

1) Create a toolbar button that one clicks to add a note to an email. Right now a user has to right-click somewhere on the body of an email to open up the context menu in order to add a note. A tool bar button would greatly improve accessibility and ease of use.

2) Provide an option to add a color background to the note message box -- something other than white so the note stands out more below to the email. I used Dom Inspector to find the code and Stylish to apply my changes to color the box yellow, like a post-it note. I also changed the text to bold, as it was more readable on a yellow background.

Other than those two issues (one of which I was able to resolve on my own) this is a great add-on. Thanks so much.

UPDATE: Ok, I see the button now. My button doesn't look at all like yours, which is why I overlooked it.

My button is just a tiny gray smudge with no wording (it's so small that it has no identifiable shape or form -- it literally looks like a smudge or spot.) I didn't realize that it was a button at all.

Perhaps it is the Nuvola theme I am using that is causing the problem; I'll see what I can do to fix that because, quite frankly, all the icons on my message bar are terrible and entirely too small.

Anyhoo, my gray smudge of a Note button works, so all is well. No more of having to add a note via the context menu. FIVE stars now!! Thanks.

UPDATE2: I didn't have the option "Icons and Text" selected for that toolbar. Now, I see the wording.

Form History Control

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Fantastic add-on. It ranks up there with Tab Mix Plus and Ad Block Plus as a must-have add-on. Especially for those of us who prefer the convenience of preserving form data history, but like an easy way to selectively remove undesirable entries without having to erase my entire form history cache.

With over 3,000 form entries to sort through, the advanced search option is a godsend for me. I was able to narrow down my entries to specific types such as, search terms, and then "select all" to delete them en masse.

Definite thumbs up!

Fox Splitter (formerly Split Browser)

Unsplit Problem Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Splitting the screen is the way to go with a widescreen monitor. It's nice to have a chat or video rolling on one side of the screen while I continue my internet toiling on the other. Very useful add-on.

However, because of a glitch or design flaw, I cannot unsplit the screen when I want to go back to a full-screen view. There is a close button, which presumably is there to close the split window, but clicking it does nothing. The only way to get rid of the split is to close or restart Firefox. Very frustrating.

Charamel

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Nice theme but font color on tabs is much too faint (light) and difficult to see--at least with my colored tabs. Needs sharper dark lettering, like black, for easier reading. I like to clearly read all my tab titles at a glance, not just the focused one.

Regrettably, I uninstalled this theme. Change the font (or at least make it an option to change) and I will re-install quickly.

Devious Green

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Pleasant theme. A nice alternative to gray themes that are usually too bland and black themes that are usually too dark.

The toolbar buttons are not to my liking. They aren't crisp and sharp like most. Some are difficult to discern and irritating to look at.

The scrollbar needs more of a color contrast to make it more identifiable.

I like this theme enough to give it a try for a while despite these issues.

ColorZilla

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension really comes in handy. I had been coveting a particular font color someone used on a message board and I was dying to know its color code. This extension provided me with color code with just two clicks of my mouse. Fantastic!

LavaFox V2-Blue

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Fantastic theme but needs tweaking for me to continue using it:

Dark toolbar buttons. Most buttons are grayed, not highlighted or colored. Buttons just fade into the black background. Initially, I thought the buttons were inactive, as I am accustomed to active buttons being in color and inactive buttons in gray. I don't think it is esthetically appealing to have dark buttons against a dark background, but that's just me.

Tiny tab close button. The close button on tabs is a very small, dark dot. Dark dot is difficult to see against the dark tab. I prefer a more prominent red x. Or at least make the button red so it can stand out.

Color Tabs issue. This theme does not play nicely with ColoredTabs extension. Instead of the tabs themselves being neatly colored, this theme overlays its smaller tab over a larger colored background. So tabs aren't really tabs anymore but just a graphic overlay over a solid block of color. Yuck!! Not attractive at all. This is the first theme I have encountered that has a colored tab compatibility problem.

Other than those issues, this theme is golden.

CustomizeGoogle

Out-dated and broken Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I loved this extension when it worked. But thankfully I've found Grease Monkey scripts that replace most of the functions CustomizeGoogle used to do.

For those wanting an entire package of customization options, use the Google Fx script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/31950. It offers many of the same options to customize google.

If you only want the direct image links option, use this Grease Monkey script: http://userscripts.org/scripts/show/5288. It works perfectly. Much easier than hassling with editing the CustomizeGoogle javascript file.

Display Mail User Agent

Wrong Agent Sometimes Displayed Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is a nifty extension that I've used for a while. I like being able to verify where an email came from.

One issue: The extension worked quite well until the most recent update to version 1.6.3. Now, most email agents are incorrectly identified as AOL. Prior versions displayed the correct agent but not anymore since the update.

My email comes to Thunderbird via my AOL account but nobody else I know uses AOL, so I don't know why AOL is being identified.

ConfigDate

Fine extension but not 24h time Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This extension is fine if you prefer seeing time displayed in a 24h format. I am not comfortable reading 24h time and wish there was an option to change to a 12h format. I uninstalled the extension to look for something more to my liking.

FAYT

Adds necessary features Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I was looking for a way to highlight search terms and now I have found it!! The "next" and "previous" buttons are fantastic. I never understood why they weren't included in quick find search by default.

This extension makes the Quick Find toolbar fully functional.

Cooliris 3D Wall

Too much form, not enough substance. Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Sorry, I'm not drinking the Kool-aid on this one. PicLens is a cute novelty program but not something I'd really use. Here's why:

1. The 3D wall waves (as in wavy) as it scrolls. It is quite nauseating to look at. I never thought browsing could make one seasick but this one does. Cute out the cutesy gimmicks and have a solid scroll please.

2. The images are displayed without titles or descriptions. Hovering over the images does display a truncated title but not with enough information to really be helpful. I prefer to know what I am looking at before I click on it. Sure the PicLens interface might be cooler than say browsing YouTube but at least on YouTube I can scan through the results very quickly by reading description details. Conversely, I liken browsing PicLens to taking a leisurely Sunday drive: The destination is not important; you are there for the journey. A meandering journey at that.

3. There is no way to adequately shop Amazon via browsing images on PicLens. I typed in DVD player and got random images of DVD players, cables, accessories, etc.--all without adequate descriptions of course. Additionally, there are no options to filter results, like on Amazon's website. The viewer is stuck waving through random pictures.

Any interaction with the product beyond looking at the pretty picture must be done via Amazon's website. Clicking back and forth from PicLens to Amazon just to see a zoom image is beyond pointless, especially when Firefox already has zoom abilities via default and extensions. I see no point to it at all.

4. Video quality isn't any better than viewing videos on their native site. YouTube videos were just as blotchy as they usually are.

So the bottom line for me is PicLens offers a cool looking interface (minus the wavy scroll) to casually look at images not for serious browsing.

I am uninstalling PicLens for now. I'll give it a while to mature into a more usable program before I revisit it again.

Classic Compact

I'm Blown Away!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

After I updated to Firefox 3, I was hating life. So many changes were not to my liking, including my old theme was no longer compatible. I didn't really like the themes that are available but I had to pick one, begrudgingly.

Then just today, I stumbled across Classic Compact and installed it. Wow!!!!! It is hands down the best theme out there (I know everyone says that about their favorite theme).

Add the options package and you can customize to your hearts content. What other theme allows you to customize it? None I've ever used.

As if the author read my mind, he included options that I was begging for with other themes. Some of my favorites include: My tabs don't have huge spaces in between rows. I can add a separator bar in between toolbar icons. I can round the edges on tabs and bars. I can select the style and size of buttons. The colored background on the address bar for https sites that FF3 discarded. (I changed mine to a bright green using the Stylish add-on. Sorry, I don't like yellow).

I only have one wish list item: Can you include the option to alter tab height? I would like them just a wee bit bigger for easier and faster scanning. I usually have about 3 rows of tabs open. The small tab titles are not easy to pick out of a crowd.

The author has put in a lot of work creating this fantastic theme. I wish I had found it a long time ago.

Flashblock

Nice flash block program Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great flash blocking program that prevents websites from lighting up like Christmas trees with flash programs blinking everywhere. I like it because it gives me time to turn my volume down before clicking on a flash video.

With the whitelist, you can grant global permission to load flash on websites you frequently visit so you don't have to unblock it every time you visit.

A must-have program.

Internote

Handy Tool Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Please update for FF3!! Very useful to make notes on various websites I use.

SnapBack

Ingeneous! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great extension. I use it all the time to "bookmark" my place, especially when reading message boards. I can read several pages and then jump back to any spot I mark.

Unlike the other reviewer, I don't think it should remember snapback positions for each webpage. At least for me, they aren't the same every time.
Please update for FF3!! I miss it.
