My Reviews

There's a new kid in town! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

UnloadTab is the "Up & Coming" answer to Firefox 8! I am thrilled that Mozilla finally listened to our howls about memory overload when feeding our multi-tab addiction. But still no ability to unload old tabs. Voila! -- "UnloadTab."

Bartab was working for me with FFx 7. However, when I upgraded to FFx 9 I was out of luck. I enabled it with Add-on Compatibility Reporter. But, alas, no options button in Bartab. Hunh???

So thanks for the great years of service, Bartab! 5 stars for our time together. It's been great.

Update: UnloadTab does not seem to free up memory when the tabs are unloaded. Not sure what's going on there.

To "Another1": No Squint is indeed excellent for reading a large LCD/LED screen across the room. Love it!

Tips: In your video options, lower the resolution to something like 1280x720. Change it to 1080i instead of 1080p (otherwise known as interlaced instead of progressive.) Make sure Clear Type Tuning is turned on in Windows.

I surf on my large screen LCD from 10 feet away all day long!

Not clear whether the bogus nobody@nowhere.invalid emails addresses are added to our Google account. These are my phone contacts! I don't need a bunch of junk messing up 100's of contacts. Too much work to risk it. I loved this addon before. Too bad.

I don't get it with the updates. In some profiles (I have a bunch) Greasefire gives a "compatibility update" which seems to make it compatible with Firefox again (3.6.15,) but it's not through Mozilla updates. I'm certainly not complaining because it works again! Why no version changes here though? Strange, but I'm a happy camper. One of the many addons keeping me from FF 4.0!

Finally found something that works -- Load Tabs Progressively. Wish this one would allow http automatic fill in the url bar when load tabs in background is disabled.

Restore Control

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Tabs still load when browser is opening. :( Nothing like 4 videos loading in the background at once to scare your cat!

Good idea but Load Tabs Progressively works better than this or BarTab. Finally found something to stop 86 tabs from loading at once. Will try again after update.

Firefox 3.6.13 with TabmixPlus and Mr. Tech toolkit.

Cleanzer - stopping spam

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Love you guys. You're the best. Thanks.

BTW. If you're in a Firefox profile without Cleanzer just save one of your junk email addresses somewhere, like a clipboard manager such as Ditto, and paste it as the email address. This will associate multiple Websites to that email address but it's a quick way to use an anonymous address without installing Cleanzer.

Walnut2 for Firefox

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really love this theme and have been using it for a long time. However, I just discovered how fast my browser can be. Unfortunately it was because I disabled this theme and went back to default. Wow! I have stuff popping and snapping all over Firefox again. I'm really sorry to lose this one. 4 stars because it's really amazing otherwise.

De-Mail Pilot Notifier (WEB.DE und GMX)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

PLEASE someone be kind and translate this page into English for this developer. I have tried making sense of it with Google translator but it is useless.

I use GMX mail and would like to see what advantage this add-on offers over the built in Webmail checker that GMX offers. Looking forward to trying it!

Hide Menubar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Pretty Cool! I like large fonts so I'm always looking for more screen space. The hidden floating options should be un-hidden for sure (see notes for Version 4.0.20101011 below.) If you need help documenting it, or anything else, I'll be happy to help.

I'd love to see "Hide Navigation Bar" options, or as a separate extension.

This is so annoying! All tabs are still loaded when opening Firefox if "When opening tabs in background" is set to load them. But when I disable it Firefox does not automatically fill in http:// from the address bar. (Ex: You get a blank tab if you type However, awesome bar searches with extra extensions such as Cybersearch still work. Does anyone know of an alternative to this extension? Tried both 2.0 and 2.1b1 beta. I'm using FFx 3.6.10.

Thanks eggyolk Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thanks, eggyolk, for your excellent review and hard work. Will try your tweaks out. Last resort, I am just going to start creating new Google accounts at intervals to force Google to stay out of my beezwax. If enough people do this and post about it, maybe they'll get the message. :)

On second thought, what a PITA. Time for a new email service.

Update: My current privacy solution -- Multiple Firefox Profiles. One for logging in to Gmail and Android; One for regular surfing; One for complete privacy (deletes all my tracks -- great for Facebook, or sites that track you.) Each of these profiles has various levels of privacy settings and addons.

I can even have multiple profiles open at once with a second Firefox shortcut set to "C:\Program Files\Mozilla Firefox\firefox.exe" -ProfileManager -no-remote

All-in-One Sidebar

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Strange: suddenly I can't install any addons with this enabled. I've had this extension for a long time and it hasn't been updated. In another Firefox profile it works just fine. I restored my all-in-one sidebar options from backup but no-go. It must conflict with something else but I disabled recent additions and no change. Can't figure out the combination but I can't live without this addon. :(

MUST HAVE for Firefox. But It disables refresh and back on many pages including Google. You can't go back to the first page, only subsequent pages. If I add an exception in BarTab's options it fixes it (mostly) but it happens on so many pages that almost nothing would unload if I did this, not to mention the PITA. BTW if you repeat your search on Google before going to the next page it also fixes the problem.

I do LOVE this extension.

However, I'm disappointed that there is no tech support. So I had to give it four stars in order for others to easily find my post.

Organize Status Bar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Apollo: I have over 60 addons plus greasemonkey scripts and my status bar icons always stay right where I put them. The only time they move is if I uninstall and reinstall them (not disable.)

If you change up addons a lot like this I would suggest OPIE. You can backup your extension settings and restore them. Hint: Organize Statusbar's preference root = organizestatusbar. You'll know what I'm talking about when you try to back it up with OPIE. It will say Unknown.

If I haven't said so, this addon is a life saver for us extension addicts. I would love to see a drag n drop function but I ain't complainin'. It is one of the extensions that will make me avoid FF 4.0 if I can't replace it. Thanks!

Firefox Sync for Firefox 3.5/3.6

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Dho! Yet another major problem. I am suddenly missing a huge chunk of history. It is set to save 720 days because I like lots of reference in my searches. I used to have more than a year saved and now the earliest is March 2010. NOT PLEASED. I have to figure out how to recover it now. Thank God for backups.

Link Widgets

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

When this addon is enabled all my FFx menus get disabled after customizing the toolbars. Some other options are disalbed as well, but Menus are the most specific I can think of. Restarting Firefox brings them back but that is not a good solution if you have a lot of tabs open.

Notepad (QuickFox)

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Almost there.

This add on features quick note taking, note syncing, searching, and simplicity.

But the fatal flaw for me is the lack of text formatting or high lighting. I am looking to replace Notepad++ for this very reason. I need to be able to highlight important phrases and cross out items that are completed.

I am looking for Win7 Sticky Notes with search, or Notepad++ with text formatting. I use them for tech trouble shooting notes.

I also don't like that I have to open up Firefox to use it but can't count this as a flaw since it is meant for Internet notes, not desktop notes. I was just hoping...
