Support is a Google group? REALLY??? Rated 3 out of 5 stars
Following the suggestion by mig, I went to the support page. I found nothing addressing the issues in my review, and in order to ask about a problem, one must join the group using a Google login -- which everyone will be able to see. I did notice that mig didn't say that my comments were inaccurate, so I dunno what support would do for me in the first place. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (5.4.1). This user has 2 previous reviews of this add-on.
Was great, now it's good Rated 3 out of 5 stars
When I started using this add-on (several years ago), it was great. Then YouTube started playing games with their code, and VDH didn't always keep up. I paid the hefty subscription fee, to help them do a better job, but nothing got better and apparently the software didn't even recognize my donation, because I periodically get a nag that says "You've downloaded X files, please subscribe." I sent a couple of messages about this, but got no response.
Recently, I started selecting ADP downloads, and was told that if I didn't pay up for a converter, I would get a big blotch in the corner. I was okay with this, but now suddenly after the aggregating process is over, all I have is audio, no video. I guess the video is being held for ransom.
The bottom line: if you can download using the non-ADP format, it's worth using. If the options you want are locked out, turn your clock back 90 years and pretend it's radio.
I will continue to use VDH where the limitations don't get in the way, but I'm keeping my eyes open for other options.
MUST HAVE software! Rated 5 out of 5 stars
OUTSTANDING! I've been using it for months, and the ease and simplicity make it a MUST HAVE.
Like that YouTube video? Click on the button and click "Quick Download" on the pop-up menu -- then go back to other stuff, while the MP4 downloads. If you want to change formats or filenames, that's in the same menu.
Contrary to another review, I've never been told to download a key code, but then I only convert to mp4 and mp3, so other codecs may be proprietary.
I just got the word that I've downloaded 700 files -- without paying a PENNY -- so figured I was about due to make a donation and to give them a review.
