In a little more detail...

I am a Software Developer from Hannover, Germany. For the last ten years I have programmed in C/C++, Delphi, Java, PHP, C# and others for a living. A year ago, I started at new job where my tasks involved the development of Firefox extensions (which are not publicly available).

The extensions I make available here have been developed in my spare time, and usually derive from the fact that I'm missing this or that feature in Firefox.

Add-ons I've created

Custom Google Search

Create and use your own Google Custom Search Engines right within Firefox. You decide which websites to remove and which to boost. Add refinements that rewrite or redirect your searches with a single click and integrate other search sites with Google

Link Queue & Preview Sidebar

See if a link is worth visiting, queue him if he is.

Sidebar which provides a scaled down web browser for quick link preview and a list of links you want to remember visiting.

My Reviews

Search Tab

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Small and very useful. I will certainly not uninstall this extension so soon.

One thing could be better: The search box in the lower right corner is hard to notice. I had to search a while to find it.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3).

RoamAbout 2.0 beta

Security flaw Rated 1 out of 5 stars

While the functionality of the addon seems nice enough, I made a short code review of this extension looking for security flaws.

This extension includes remote javascript code which gets executed with full privileges. This is a possible backdoor.

The insecurity is propably accidental, yet it must be corrected before the addon should be allowed to leave the sandbox.

Details have been mailed to the author of the extension.

Window and Tab Limiter

Nice idea, but definitely needs some improvements Rated 2 out of 5 stars

The idea to limit open tabs is a good one, but this implementation is much too naive.

1.) The oldest of the tabs is not the least recently used tab, but the least recently opened tab. That is, you might end up closing your current tab.

2.) There is no safety net - tabs get closed without warning and without the ability to interfere. This will definitely lead to irritation, if not data loss - especially when combined with point 1.

Some ideas for improvements:

- Record when and how long tabs had focus. You might use the "focus" and "blur" events to achieve that.

You should record whether the tab had focus at all, and if yes, use a threshold time limit - for example 5 seconds - of focus time before a tab gets an updated view status.

- Every N newly opened tabs, a dialogue should appear, asking the user if he wants to close the least recently used tabs. In that dialogue, the titles and addresses of the tabs to be closed should be listed. Checkboxes should allow the user to select which tabs to keep open, and which to close.

I don't consider this plugin ready for primetime yet.
