TabGroups Manager

Michael Jackson is currently earning more money than all the people on this page combined. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really think that this is worth salvaging, and improving.

Firefox 25 is coming! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Notice for xtrm_xtrm (and anyone else interested):A major remake of Firefox is coming. See: http://thenextweb.com/insider/2013/06/05/mozilla-is-planning-a-major-design-overhaul-with-the-release-of-firefox-25-in-october-heres-a-quick-peek/

Update (6/10): Now that xtrm_xtrm has set up a Google site for the TGM project (see comment from June 10), let's use that to maintain and upgrade TGM.

Location of Fix Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The fix in xtrm_xtrm's profile https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/user/xtrm_xtrm/ is in the "Location" field.

I have a short subdomain URL that forwards immediately to the fix URL. This is http://TGM.DrZev.net PLEASE BOOKMARK IT, or WRITE IT ON YOUR HAND, or MAKE A NOTE ON YOUR CELLPHONE!

This forwards directly to: https://docs.google.com/file/d/0B_cPIh38WTUSc0hiM3VCUVRlVk0/edit?pli=1

Click the "Download" button, and execute the addon-2013.04.10.001-fx.xpi file with Firefox.

WE HAVE TO STOP PLAYING CAT-AND-MOUSE WITH THE MODERATOR! xtrm_xtrm, please open a new add-on, perhaps TGM-2, to be the fixed version. I believe that, if you start a new add-on, then you control it, and it will be official, and appear to all Firefox users who seek it out.

Give credit where credit is due Rated 4 out of 5 stars

xtrm_xtrm is doing the heavy lifting. I just reported what xtrm_xtrm and others have done, perhaps in a more user-friendly way, but please don't give me credit for my comparatively small contributions.

Same Problems persist in 18.0.2 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

The same problems, as noted before, persist in Firefox 18.0.2.

Frustrating.

Possible extensions Rated 4 out of 5 stars

First, I want to say that I, too, have been plagued with tabs that won't directly close, disappearing tabs, and tabs that act like part of the top bar so that, when I try to drag-and-drop them, the whole window moves. If the originator of TGM can't fix these problems (I hope he's OK), I would want someone like One Ken Thomas to do so.

Once these problems are solved, some extensions could be added.

Now, currently TGM works with two levels, tabs and tab groups. It would help my work if a third level, that of a Window, can be added. Each Window would have several Tab Groups, each of which would have several tabs. You could hibernate a whole Window, and bring it back all together.

Also, each window would have a set user-defined name, and, when you do a mouseover on the Firefox icon on the bottom bar (task bar), it will be those names that appear in the popup list, not the header of the current open tab for each window.

An alternative would be to allow several rows of tab groups in each window.

Additionally, if the tree of tabs used by TGM could be tied into the tree of "Favorites", that would make things easier to use and more secure. One way is to have the TGM tree reflect the "favorites" library tree. Another way is that the root node of the TGM tree is added to the "Favorites" tree, one level off from its root node.

Lastly, it would be good to organize groups of Windows, as described above. I think four or five levels should be sufficient for any one user.

"edward boyhan" makes a lot of good points. I just lost a lot of my "Hibernate" groups -- Why? I dunno! Good thing I saved about 2/3 of them as bookmarks.

I think this would be better if it were tied in to the Bookmark system. Maybe there should be three levels -- Window, Group (= tab group), and Tab. The higher two levels would correspond to folders within the Bookmark system.

Instead of Hibernating web pages (which can be dreadfully unreliable), make sure that they are in the Bookmark system. Then, provide a user-friendly interface to open them selectively. However, when you open a Tab, Group, or Window, it still remains in the Bookmark system.

I tried moving a group tab, and all the tabs in the group disappeared. I find a lot of this add-on confusing.

It could be greatly enhanced by allowing for multiple lines of tabs, and allowing more than one group to be open at once, using color to distinguish them.

This puts pdf file in different window Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I think I figgered out what's wrong, at least in Vista. I keep about thirty different Firefox windows open, many with multiple tabs. One window references two .pdf files relating to a local road project.

When I restart, and Firefox restores all its windows and tabs, but instead of loading the pdf files into the original tab, it loads them into the "open" tab of the first window to be loaded.

This is weird, and so is my solution. I have to copy the URL of the pdf page onto a text file (.txt). I then copy that URL into the scratchpad, and copy it back onto the address box of the appropriate tab, and hit enter. THEN, it works.

I plan to revert to 2.1.0.0 or 2.1.0.1. Wish me luck!
