Mozilla Labs: Prospector - Home Dash

Interesting addon, but still needs work Rated 3 out of 5 stars

There are a number of things to like with this addon, a few things that could be improved and a few others that are downright annoying.

I like the ability to close webpages or navigate to another webpage quickly without a lot of mousing movement.
I don't like the fact that my toolbar is totally blocked out when this addon is activated since there are a significant number of bookmarks that I use a lot and it's easier to just click on them rather than use HomeDash to find them. I've gotten past this by using All-in-One Sidebar to load them to the left of the screen.
The really annoying feature is that HomeDash appears when clicking on a field that is to be completed on a form. Originally this was not a problem when HomeDash was activated with a right click rather than a left click.
I've tried to offer input via the proper support section but no one from Mozilla Labs seems to be checking that area (or at least responding).
It would be nice to have a button in HomeDash that would send the website's URL to one's clipboard. I often save URLs for later pasting and it's cumbersome to use the keyboard shortcut to display the URL first and then copy/paste.

Mozilla Labs: Prospector - Home Dash

I would agree with the other reviewers that the idea has promise but it's not quite there yet. Hitting the back link (after right clicking on the page) won't always take you back to the prior page. (Sometimes it does but not invariably.) Being able to right click and have the options for the home dash appear regardless of where you are on the page would be nice. Also, when it appears that I'm down to a single page on the home dash display and then I click on Shift-Alt-Cntl-D, I often find tons of other tabs still open. My bookmarks toolbar is already configured to include specific sites that I access occasionally (e.g., for work) but not with a high degree of frequency. These are easier to get to with the toolbar than HomeDash. Closing out of Firefox altogether using the X in the upper right corner, never seems to work at all. In short, it requires a lot of cognitive effort to use and I find myself feeling relieved to switch back to the familiar interface. I'm not ready to give up on it yet but it definitely needs further fine-tuning.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (8.1-signed).

Not usable Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The idea is a good one but I couldn't get it to work. (BTW, I'm using Firefox 3.5.5.) The popup that described the problem was restricted in size to about 1/3rd the screen so that I couldn't even tell what the issue was. The fact that it won't accept pages from gmail or other password protected pages is also problematic as I often want to convert upcoming travel reservations that I've received via email into a pdf file that I can send to friends/relatives so they will be apprised of my plans.
