My Reviews

MultiSelect Tabs

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Seemed like it would be useful to move a group of tabs to a new window, then use Bookmark all tabs to save them to a folder. Somehow I ended up with about 3-4 new windows, some of which just had a blank tab. One of my other tabs became unpinned and all my tabs got rearranged. Firefox asked if I was sure I wanted to close 126 tabs (certainly NOT - no idea what triggered that). Got my tabs back thanks to a sessionstore backup. Hope this was a major anomaly, but I'm uninstalling. If you choose to use this, be very careful. At the very least the add-on needs some documentation on how to use it, and that needs to be in an easy to find location, preferably right on AMO.

Disable Tab Detach

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Thank you!!! I seem to tear off tabs accidentally, and this puts them back pronto. Unfortunately, I can no longer move tabs to a new window at all now, without disabling the extension from Add-ons Mgr. I know webextensions are limited, so it's probably not possible to disable only tab tear-off and not other methods of moving tabs to new windows. Could you perhaps provide a toolbar button to enable/disable this extension, that we could e.g. place into the overflow menu for easy access on the occasional time we really do want to move tabs to a new window? (Or some other method to temporarily override the behavior.) That would make it perfect!

Automatic Reader View

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Switches website view to 'reader view' as though you manually clicked the Reader button. Ideally it should not display the page in non-reader view first, before switching reader view on. If you're opening a bunch of tabs in the background, this doesn't matter. If the opened tab is in the foreground, it can be a bit distracting if you're not actively expecting the switch. Still, it does save a lot of clicks if you use reader view a lot for certain sites. Thanks for developing it! Update: version 0.2.1 goes directly to reader-view; thanks again!

Works well. Appears to work with Process Separation (e10s). Doesn't use FUEL API (which is being removed). Recently updated (meaning developer is currently active). It would be even better if it were restartless, but still excellent. Update: Alternatively, Classic Theme Restorer now also contains a restart button (so I switched to using that).

Homepage New Tab

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

Clicking Firefox's 'gear' button on the page has no effect (except to generate an error in the console) when this extension is enabled. Clicking one of the tiles occasionally leaves the search box and strip of icons at the bottom showing along with the webpage. Toggle button added by this extension would be wonderful, if clicking it actually had any effect. The overlapping search box issue can be worked around by making the browser window larger or altering min-height of #newtab-margin-top in userContent.css.
On the plus side if you're willing to put up with the bugginess (I uninstalled it) it's restartless, so you can easily disable it when necessary. I'm on Firefox 39 and contacted author who said he has been unable to keep the extension updated, so it may work fine on older Firefox versions. If you decide to uninstall, do it while it's enabled, so it's cleanup code can restore previous settings. (By design, Firefox does not run disabled code.)

New Tab Position Toggle

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very handy if you tend to keep a lot of tabs open and occasionally want a new tab next to the current one.
Works fine for my use case (thanks Archaeopteryx), but doesn't seem to work properly if you have changed browser.tabs.insertRelatedAfterCurrent to false (see:

Options also allow setting (unmodified) left-click, should you want to change the default behavior (thus it's also a partial replacement for Tab Control add-on, which is no longer maintained).

Iconic Firefox Menu

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Leaves more room for tabs (using with 'Tabs Always in Titlebar') and looks great too! Some might prefer to use a different icon e.g. on Aurora, but I like using the 'real' Firefox one this extension gives me.

Thanks! Easy to use and works perfectly; hope you maintain this 4-evar. Placed the status text in the location bar to save vertical space. Check out the options - It's a great fx4 compatible Fission replacement too.

FireFTP is one of my favorite add-ons. Before I switched from Internet Explorer to Firefox years ago, I used IE's built-in ftp. It was enough for my needs at the time, except it kept getting broken over and over. Asking for help fixing it was sure to yield at least one "get a real ftp client" response. FireFTP just works; no time-wasting distractions from website development. I run Firefox Beta, so I really appreciate its author keeping it promptly updated to keep up with Firefox code changes. He's very polite/helpful too, should the need arise to contact him. The interface is flexible enough that I could arrange it to appear much like the IE one I was used to, and simply drag/drop files just like I always did. I use ftp more than ever now, and FireFTP still does everything I want/need. It's as real of an ftp client as anyone could want. The right add-ons make Firefox fantastic; FireFTP is the right add-on for ftp. I've been using FireFTP for a long time now and couldn't be more pleased. Thanks for sharing it on AMO!

Bottom Error Console

Inspect Context

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Makes DOM Inspector better and easier to use. Very helpful for extension/theme development. Thanks.

Vista on XP

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I have the same problem others mention with the disappearing text on Linux (Knoppix Live CD, Vista on XP version 1.0). Same issue occurs for me with Strata Aero theme. I use the following in userChrome.css as a workaround:

menubar > menu[_moz-menuactive="true"] {color: MenuText !important;}

5 stars on Win XP, 3 on Linux

(Bug report posted here because there is no other support contact listed.)

Go Parent Folder

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works great on Win XP too. Glad to see this functionality available for Fx 3.

Classic Compact Options

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I use this on Linux, not for the compact feature, but to make my Linux Firefox look mostly like my Win XP Firefox (which uses the default theme), and the options really help for this.

Places' Tooltips

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Version 1.1 Addon works well for me on Bookmarks Menu and Bookmarks Toolbar. (I don't understand what this has to do with View Menu and I have no custom toolbars.) Tooltip shows title and url. If you are just looking to view long titles that get cut off see also Currently I'm using both. If you're not using 1042 and your folders have long names, you might want to turn on the option to display tooltips for folders, but I find that annoying.

Places’ Full Titles

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Just added the code to userChrome.css with a note as to its origin. Works fine (Fx 3 on Win XP). Great for those long RSS Live Bookmark titles. Especially for those of us who prefer the Bookmarks Menu to the Sidebar.

Winstripe Theme Fix-up for Firefox 3

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Changes are relatively minor (for me on Win XP anyway), but well-done and belong in Fx 3.
