My Reviews

Flashblock

Screws up Silverlight in Firefox 34 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Silverlight will not play with this plugin, which makes pages that depend on (e.g., Wizards of the Coast's legacy D&D tools) it useless. Much as I have liked flashblock, it isn't worth that.

Advanced Cookie Manager

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I tried it. It's somewhat useful, but I immediately noticed two issues: First, although I can select a set of many cookies, pressing delete appears to only delete one. Second, pressing enter closes the window (very annoying).

NoScript Security Suite

The glass is half-empty Rated 3 out of 5 stars

A very powerful plugin, but it renders many common web pages very painful to use. A common problem is that a page will download javascript files incrementally, so you end up having to approve some files, take an action, approve some more, etc. (Slickdeals.net would be a good example.)

It's essential if you want to visit random sites, but it can make the rest of the web more painful than it is worth. So half the time I want to give it 5 stars, and half the time zero.

Xmarks Sync

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I used to like this plugin, but they keep adding annoying features -- the latest was wasting space in my status bar on "reviewing" web pages. Finally exhausted my patience... uninstall.

Firecookie

Too much noise in the console Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I'd give it 5 stars except for all the noise it generates in the console. Is there a way to silence the logging? Without that, it isn't worth tolerating, for me... console space is precious.

Firesizer

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great plugin. It would be even better if it generated resize events.

Web of Trust, WOT: Website Reputation Ratings

Not so sure it works Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I see the value, but increasingly I notice that it's ratings are wrong. It gave a bad rating to one site that was completely safe (doesn't use javascript, flash, or save cookies, even), because it's _parent_ domain was unsafe. And now it's giving low ratings to buy.com, a site I've used safely for years.

And that is making me question the value of this approach.
