My Reviews

Mail Redirect

One of my favorites! But ... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

It continues to baffle my why this functionality is not included in Thunderbird (or any email client) by default, as I consider this one of the most powerful and highly useful tools for managing email. Being able to redirect--rather than forward--an email not only eliminates the formatting mess that forwarding sometimes makes, but more importantly enables me to "step out" of the middle of conversations where it is useful and appropriate to do so.

My biggest disappointment is that the development of this add-on seems to have paused or halted completely, as it no longer works at all in TB 20b1, and the version that was working (7.6.12) in previous versions of TB has never been posted here due to an unresolved memory leak.

Screengrab (fix version)

Screengrab is Back! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Thank you for bringing this simple, but valuable add-on back to life. Great job!

Works Great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

One of the few add-ons I can't live without. Works great as always! Looking forward to update for TB 16.0b

Integrated Google Calendar

Excellent in Concept, but ... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This add-on is excellent in concept and, for the most part, in execution as well. Unfortunately, enabling the add-on substantially increases the start-up time for Firefox -- beyond what for me are acceptable limits. I experimented a bit, and found that this is true even if all other add-ons are disabled. So, for now at least, I've disabled this one. Maybe future updates will resolve this.

Must Have Add-On Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This add-on is a must-have on my Android phone, please keep updating!

Customizations for Adblock Plus

Useful, but UI Needs work Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Having easy access to these preferences is helpful, but the UI needs improvement. Unless you run your browner in full or very wide screen (which admittedly many people do, but others like me don't because it defeats the advantage of having multiple "windows" layered visibly about my screen), the first column that describes the preferences -- i.e., "Subscription Info on one line" -- is truncated. It becomes just "Subscription info ...". Having to widen the screen in order to be able to read the descriptions is poor design.

Lightning

Works Great with Thunderbird 7 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is an invaluable add-on, and I appreciate the efforts to keep it current with Mozilla's rapid release cycle. I've been using the pre-release developer versions with TB7 with good success, but now I see that 1.0b7pre is now available via the link here: https://developer.mozilla.org/en/Calendar/Calendar_Versions. Thank you!

Thunderbird Conversations

Very Well Done! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This extension is improving significantly with every release. And, as someone with older eyes, I especially appreciate that we now have the option to remove the message body tweaks and prevent the fonts from shrinking. It makes the extension far more accessible and, aesthetically, it still looks terrific on my PC. My only complaint at the moment is about the combined Reply/Reply All button, which I don't think is "smart" at all. Having the option is one thing, but I don't think Reply All should EVER be the default. There's too much useless email floating around now; we shouldn't be effectively encouraging users to Reply All. Make 'em have to think before doing that!

AddressBookTab

Great to Have it Back!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've never understood why Thunderbird implemented tabs and then didn't use them for the Address Book or to Compose new messages -- which is why I've always been a fan of this extension. And now, with the update to 1.4.2 (click on "View all versions" until it clears AMO), I've finally got it back after a lengthy absence during the Shredder beta. Well done. Thank you!

Compose for Thunderbird

Love the Concept, Needs Work Rated 5 out of 5 stars

As the author states, this is proof-of-concept -- not a finished extension -- and at this point has too many problems to be useful in a production environment. It doesn't search by nickname, adds &nbsp characters in odd places, doesn't spell check on the fly, has an overly complicated UI, etc., etc., etc.. BUT I have always been baffled as to why Thunderbird added tabs, then didn't use them for the address book and compose windows. If this extension can get the support it very much deserves, it will be a long overdue addition to Thunderbird. Five stars for the effort!!

Thunderbird Conversations

Intriguing and Well Done, but ... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This extension has come a long, long way since the early versions and is definitely intriguing. However, for those of us with older eyes, the fonts within the message body are a problem. Yes, I've read the thread in Google Groups and I understand the developer's reasoning and intent. And yes, I know I can increase the default font size for Thunderbird in Tools | Options | Display. But that not only increases the font size in the message body, it increases the fonts in other places where such increases are not needed or wanted, plus it affects alignment of the conversation toolbar buttons. Frankly, without a way to adjust the size of the fonts in the message bodies only, this just isn't as usable for me as it could be. A great, great job overall, it nevertheless fails the accessibility test for me.

Noia 4

Improving All the Time! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This highly configurable theme has a wide range of options and tweaks, and recent updates have finally made Noia 4 highly usable. Not surprisingly, there are still a couple of tweaks to be made. For example, the combined Stop/Reload button in the Awesome Bar isn't quite right -- perhaps a little more spacing after the button is needed. There are one or two truly insignificant misspellings in the configurator ("tansparent," under Tweaks 1, Firefox Button in v1.40), but I'm just pointing it out and not complaining. Obviously a lot of work has gone into this. You've surely done Kasteo proud!

Edit: Spacing on Stop/Reload Button fixed in 1.4.3. Thank you!!

Desperately in Need of an Update Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Desperately in need of an update already, now this wonderful add-on is incompatible with Thunderbird 5.0b1. Unfortunately, it appears development on this project has completely stalled.

Edit: Clearly, as the developer notes, I was wrong. I just didn't understand the development cycle.

Update Scanner

One of my Favorites! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A highly useful add-on for monitoring pages that don't support RSS. Unfortunately, it is not currently compatible with Firefox 5 Beta. I have to drop back to FF4 to add pages.

Phony

Helpful, but ... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This is useful addition, but either the number of User Agents need to be expanded or we need to be able to set the user-agent by site. As it stands, there is no single user agent selection available that renders pages as consistently well as the default browser on my Atrix.

AddressBookTab

Nice! Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This is how Thunderbird should be designed, instead of opening separate windows for things like the Address Book and Compose. One comment: For those using Icons and Text in their Main Toolbar, "AddressBook Tab" is too long and results in the icon taking up too much space on the toolbar. If possible, this should be shortened.

The Camelizer - Amazon Price Tracker

Available for Firefox 4! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Version 1.5, which works on Firefox 4 and is currently being reviewed by AMO, is now available if you click on the "View all Versions" link below. You can download and install from there. Nice to have the Camelizer back!

Searchbar Autosizer

Needs Update for FF4 Rated 3 out of 5 stars

While I like the functionality this add-on provides, it needs to be updated for FF4. While Searchbar Autosizer mostly works in FF4, the Options windows no longer works.

Please Update for Firefox 4 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is one of my favorite add-ons, and although it works with FF4 with the Add-On Compatibility Reporter installed, it would be nice to see a full-fledged update for Firefox 4.0.
