Flag of Hong Kong

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great theme!

FXChrome

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I prefer version 2.1.3, I like the orange firefox button, not the blue version.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.3.5beta).  This user has a previous review of this add-on.

Simple Clocks

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great alternative to FoxClocks, with a lower memory footprint. Would like the option to have flags next to city names, but thats more for cosmetic reasons.

RequestPolicy

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Great addon in theory, maybe works too well. I have used NoScript and I do know that this addon and NoScript both block different elements and should be used together. However this addon requires too much customisation . Also it would be useful to have an option to allow requests to/from a particular domain; at the moment both are separate options (unidirectional). One good point of this addon is that is has a small memory footprint compared to other security addons.

If someone could produce a whitelist (much like Easylist for Adblock Plus) - this would cut down on the tedious initial customisation of the addon and I would be more inclined to use it. However, I do recommend this for the more paranoid Firefox user if they can handle tweaking from the outset. I'll stick to my trusted 5 security addons of NoScript, Adblock Plus, Ghostery, BetterPrivacy and CookieCuller for now.

CookieCuller

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Love this addon, only discovered it recently, glad I finally have control over cleaning up cookies. Just remember not to use Firefox's clear cookies option as this clears out all cookies, even protected ones. Prefer this to Cookie Monster, small and simple. Two features I would like to see added (which probably have been mentioned already) are the ability to search through cookies and an option to delete cookies on shutdown rather than startup.

Web of Trust, WOT: Website Reputation Ratings

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Been using WOT for years. While I agree that the concept may be open to manipulation, and not have enough users to rate sites, the addon is still good enough for me, especially when trawling through search engine results.

Flagfox

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The first extension I used which displays a flag for server location. Sometimes compared to other extensions its shows the wrong flag, however this is due to the nature of some sites (i.e. they may have data centres all over the world, like Google). Overall a very small and nifty extension, also has a very clear privacy policy.

LeechBlock

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The don of all anti-procrastination tools, necessary when I need to force myself to do revision! Loads of options, great customisability; I use the option to block sites during the day so in the evening I can relax :)

Video DownloadHelper

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Been using it for a while now and allows me to download videos where an obvious download URL cannot be seen. However now I've seen it that is slows startup times, and only enable it when I see a video that I need to download. However this is only a minor issue and overall a great addon.

D1 (Deprecated)

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Simple version of Ghostery, useful for people who want to block the most common web bugs with minimum fuss. However it does seem to slow down browsing and sometimes break some websites, like Lifehacker; hopefully the developer can make it perform as well as the Chrome version. Any chances of porting the "Depersonalise Searches" feature from Chrome to the Firefox version?

NoScript Security Suite

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great addon for the security conscious user, saved me from a few click-jacking attempts. At first was a bit intrusive, because some sites require certain scripts to be allowed, however after learning more about the common scripts that are needed, this has been alleviated. Like the fact it blocks elements that consume bandwidth such as those autoplay videos in ads that I don't intend to watch.

Beef Taco (Targeted Advertising Cookie Opt-Out)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good addon, installs cookies and just does its job without any user input. I know opt-out cookies work passively (i.e. they tell websites not to track you - I can see them in the cookie options dialogue) but is there any visual way of telling they are 'actively' working?

CheckPlaces

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Nice add on for clearing bookmarks on the fly. However I find that sometimes it clears some bookmarks that still work, maybe it has something to do with the time between sending a request and receiving a response from a website. Overall a good and unique add on.

BetterPrivacy-signed

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Didn't know about flash cookies until I discovered this add on. Simple and requires little input from the user!

Ghostery

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great addon on for revealing and blocking those hidden web bugs that track you. You'll be surprised how many there are on some sites! One of the essential security addons for Firefox.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.5.2.1-signed).

Adblock Plus

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The most essential add on for Firefox, as long as you have the right block lists (i.e. Easylist). Better than commercial ad blockers. I also like the element hiding aspect of the add on.

WorldIP - Geo Add-on with Security Features

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great alternative to Flagfox, more accurate in the location of websites; also provides more information when hovering over the flag in the address bar. Also like the fact that it displays your own IP as well. However, the Privacy Policy could be a bit clearer with regards to not collecting data from users of the add-on though, as it queries an external database to obtain locations of websites.

Strata RELOADED

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A very compact and nice looking theme for Firefox, I love the colour and the rounded tab shapes. Gives a fresh feel when compared to the default theme when using Firefox 4. However I have one qualm, the activity circle does not show up on the Help --> About Firefox menu when it checks for updates to Firefox.

EDIT: Also the Download Status indicator is missing the arrow in the Customise Toolbar window.

FXChrome

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Probably one of the best Chrome themes ever to grace Firefox, thanks to the author for making this!

Status-4-Evar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great add-on, no idea why Mozilla removed the status bar in the first place. I'm on a laptop, so screen space is at a premium, and seeing as I have addons that need to be on the bottom of the screen constantly, I didn't like having the add-on bar and the loading caption (even if it is just shown when a page is loading) in two separate bars. Kudos on a brilliant extension!
