Regardless the issues I commented in my last review, I was quite happy with this add-on.
However, after installing the new browser upgrade, the icon for switching flash seems to be completely gone. It cannot be found anywhere (I tried Customize, not there either). And so, this add-on is render basically useless: you cannot switch flash without a button.
If the developer listened a bit to what people have to say and paid attention to details, this could be a great add-on. At the moment, it's simple -again- useless.
I've been using this add-on for ages and I've found it great, a must. However, it seems that the new version is only for keyboard shortcuts? I can't find the options in the tab context menu anymore, so I'm guessing that's it.
Maybe it's just me. However, if that's indeed the case and the tab context menu has been removed by default, this add-on loses most of its appeal.
This add-on is a MUST if you want to add another layer of security/anonimity. I don't understand comments about the name (you are too politically correct for IPFuck?) or being useless. How is it useless if it does what it promises and changes your IP? Just give it a try and check it in any anonimity check website. If you want to add that little extra privacy, use it along with a proxy/tunnel, you won't be disappointed. Thanks to the developer for it, I hope you keep updating it!This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.1).
To be honest, I cant see to what extent this add-on works since I'm using other measures to avoid/block ads, although it worked with a hard to block ad that was bothering me every time I visited a site and no other add-on/cookie blocker could get rid of, so thumbs up.
I don't agree with the developer regarding whitelists though. Also, this add-on is 100% non-intrusive and invisible, which is both good and bad. I appreciate not having to mess with settings, etc., although a bit of personalisation or a list of filters for people with none or little knowledge of programming would be appreciated.
Please bear in mind that I didn't install this add-on yet. Just a comment after reading the developer comments, visitinh his website and having a look at his instructions.
For what I understand, this add-on doesn't offer the possibility of searching for subtitles. While I'm glad to have found video grabber, I'd be happier to install it if it actually offer the option to search for a certain subtitle file in a number of subtitle databases, thus not having to do part of the job yourself (which, in my own experience, is rather dull).
If you could add that feature, I'd gladly use it rather than downloading.
-Edit: Thanks for the reply. I understood the purpose, I wasn't sure about the subtitle search though. Your response clarified that positively. Since you state that subtitles would be found automatically, I will give it a try and then review it properly. Thanks again!
I really don't understand 1 star ratings complaining about having to pay for using certain features like converting videos. I never needed such feature(s), and I am a HEAVY user who installed this years ago. Obviously, I'd be happier if everything was free, although -seriously- you won't miss any features here without the need to pay for extra ones.
Besides, there are other nice little programs out there which will convert all type of files without a problem.
Apart from that, this add-on was featured 7th in the list of the slowest add-ons for firefox, apparently slowing it down up to 33%. I reckon Firefox have been crashing a lot in their latest versions, particularly when queuing more than 10 videos (so I suspect this add-on is involved in the crashes). However, I recently changed to WaterFox and it works fine. I never tried queuing more than around 20 videos yet (the time when I could queue more than 100 without a problem seem long gone), but so far so good.
I am still looking for a different light weight add-on capable of doing what this one does, Unfortunately, none so far seems to match it. So, even though DownloadHelper is a heavy weight with its more than 700kb, I'll stick to it for now and I thank the developers for it.
It does what it says on the box. It's nice that you can actually do more things with a click.
However, I noticed that, after disabling the add-on, the button doesn't come back to his original flashy orange color but stays rather dull =( =)
By adding a ridiculous number of opt-out cookies, this add-on makes useless other add-ons trying to fine tune the way you control the cookies in your system. After beef taco is done with it, your computer will be full of cookies (even if they are opt-out), and add-ons like Cookie Killer will have a hard time getting their way around. If you were trying to check in detail what cookies were being stored in your computer, forget all that if you add this.
Apart from that, there are other issues here:
-the opt-out cookies left by this add-on will also be removed as "normal" cookies, making them useless if you decide to clean your system.
-the opt-out cookies are only useful if the ad companies decide to actually respect them!
In order to avoid unwanted ads as well as tracking, I'd recommend Ghostery, the above-mentioned Cookie Killer, Cookie Monster or other similar extensions that you can actually control while learning, rather that filling your system with "pieces of taco". Although beef taco might be useful for lazy people or those who don't wish to know how things work.
Alas, after removing this extension, now the hard part comes trying to put order in the chaos left behind...
I have been using it for years, usually works fine. However, bear in mind that it will slow down FF and, for power users, it may make it crash. However, a normal user shouldn't have a problem. I have tried different video downloaders and they don't come even close (except for Video Myxa, perhaps, more light weight and similar -if not so sharp- features). If you could make a lite version not slowing down FF considerably, I'd give you 5 stars, definitely ;DThis review is for a previous version of the add-on (126.96.36.199-signed). This user has other reviews of this add-on.
Read the little print properly: THIS ADD-ON JUST ADDS A BUTTON ON TOP OF VIDEOS +++IF+++ YOU ALREADY HAVE INSTALLED ANOTHER PIECE OF SOFTWARE CALLED VDOWNLOADER.
And, for what I have read, the software contains spamware. Removed and gone back to Download helper.
Also, check the developer comments, he seems to like to go to other developers products simply to boast about his own add-ons! No comments...
Nice. Any chance of making it delete also the flash cookies? Hahaha =P
Edit - Also, it'd be handy if there was an option to close and remove cookies of all right/similar tabs and or closing and removing with double/middle click =)
So far, works fine. Particularly useful for blocking flash cookies ;) I'd give it 5 stars, however its size (over 200kb) and not being able to have the choice to enable/unable specific pages rather than global block makes it a 4 star app. Nice one, regardless!
Edit - A change in the icon to let you know when flash is enable/disable would also be nice =)
Worked fine while it was compatible. Now I changed to RemoveTabs. Unfortunately, that add-on doesn't have the "Close Similar Tabs" Option, very useful. I'll be waiting for the update on this.
Edit- Just found Close other tabs add-on, installed and will try soon. Seems to do what I wanted
For doing exactly what it claims, I should give it 5 stars. However, as other users commented, you have basically the same option in Firefox by default. Ok, granted, the default option shows ALL domain related cookies rather than the ones related to the page we are viewing. However, I consider some other little features could be helpful in this add-on, like seeing both the page cookies and the domain cookies without having to change tabs, for example. Again, it does what it claims. I'll have to think about keeping it though, since it doesn't really offer many advantages (even considering how light weight it is).
In any case, thanks for it.
It does what it says. Will create a temp address easy to access with no problems. However, I removed the add on after noticing that many emails from sites sending register validations emails are not displayed properly and thus its impossible to validate yourself using this. Needs improvement.
Unable to add edit saved proxies, add new ones or change proxies in any way at the moment.
Also, the plugin takes over the Network configuration window under Firefox's Options : Advanced : Network, which should be changed, or at least leave the user choose.
Lightweight alternative to downloadhelper, flashgot, etc. Extremely easy to use, only the necessary options. Will catch any video/audio from anywhere. Seems to be using the cache for it rather than downloading directly from the net.
One suggestion: is it possible to add an Exception list? My list gets full quickly and, after visiting the same page a few times, the same file fills the list.
Impossible to use Firefox with this. The scripts are making the browser freeze all the time. Removed, not worth it at the moment. If that issue is fixed, it could be a nice add-on (didn't have the chance to try any features though, since the browser wouldn't response)
This add-on start your MU download automatically after the countdown for free user is finished. Now, I see some problems here:
1- It will only start ONE download automatically. You will have to open a new link for other ones. It'd be nice for the add-on to recognise when another tab/window with a MU download is opened and start that download after the previous one is finished, or automatically reload that page so the countdown restart and the add-on can start downloading automatically. Otherwise, you just have to do it yourself.
2- Why can we not pick the folder we want the file to go to?
3- This add-on is leaving a 149b file with the name of the next download I wanted to get in the download folder, like a mark for it to be downloaded, although the add-on doesn't actually download anything, so it's useless.
If you can fix those, this can make a great add-on
