Quick Locale Switcher

Oh, boy... Rated 2 out of 5 stars

First, note that other user has taken recently the ownership of this add-on, as the original developer, Captain Caveman, left the support and development for all his add-ons a few months ago. He offered his work to those interested.

And now we see the first related news. As Dillanski mentioned, be aware: the recent updates (since 1.7.8.5... but it's still harmless; 1.7.8.6+ are ugly) only adds a new option, *enabled by default*, for to integrate a "price comparison (WizeShoppy)". First time that I hear about it, but only by the source code added for its integration, I see that it works in a very intrusive way over all your web navigation, and, in general, I recommend stay away of things as this.

1.7.8.6 is still in a "waiting aproval by some AMO reviewer" state, so users (yet) didn't received this update.

Independently of the choices of the new developers for to monetize this add-on, not having a single mention of it in the release notes, is a fishy behaviour (EDIT 20/3: Now it's mentioned). And it seems that with other add-ons she(?) is doing the same.

Brief

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

@Foxtail
You definitely will have better luck asking in other places (mozillazine, by example) by a more generic solution instead of requesting here repeatedly by such exotic feature. I don't know much about RAM disks, but I guess that using symlinks for the Brief's files could help you.

bug669129

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

At last. The mentioned bug is a pain. Thank you very much.

EDIT: A bug report. If you put the cursor before the protocol and begin to press 'Supr' repeatedly, when at last the awesome bar shows you a suggestion, the supr key doesn't work anymore.

Brief

Sad Rated 1 out of 5 stars

While this add-on has been between my favorites over the years, the sad thing isn't that currently the version 1.5.4 doesn't work anymore with Firefox, but the lack of a single word of the developer about its status.

Then? is possible to survive a while with the (still working) development version 1.6b1; check a independent development keeping the version 1.5 compatible
https://github.com/KerSp66zQAx/brief
or to explore the alternatives hosted in this site: Bamboo, Sage, Feed Sidebar, among a few others (And I don't want to mention the as-web-services alternatives).

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.4).

Tab Overflow Stacking

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

The name can to make think in something similar to the Opera's tab stacking. Not. Tab overflow, it says. Well, in linux it isn't really broken, the stacked tabs looks a bit weird, but at least you can to catch the idea.

@ChessWriter
"Tab Mix Lite" and "Tab Utilities" (only the development version) have (optionally) very close implementations to the Opera's stacking. Give them a try.

URL Dot

Among my favorites Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It seems to be the unique surviving extension related to URL completion in AMO with support for multiple suffixes mapped to a single key combination. It's really good, and probably the add-on could to get more users if it changes its 'preliminarily reviewed' status.

It still have space for improvements (https and about: support, by example), and some problems (pressing Enter in a empty urlbar will take you to the page of the first search engine without a keyword) but, probably more important, the lacks of recent updates (the last was almost two years ago) and activity in its tracking page made me afraid that the developer doesn't have sufficient time/enthusiasm, and future changes in Firefox that will make the add-on incompatible doesn't get a fast fix. Luckily, it still has not happened :)

Anyway, kudos to this work, for a long time it has been between my indispensable extensions.

Switchy

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Well, not so bad, the description is of little help about the "exclusive" features (assigning websites... that is it? bookmarking? give me some technical bg *before* install it). It have some problems: the default profile is mislabel as the current profile in the toolbar button, and the UI definitely needs tuning yet: In "Profiles", listing 4 profiles use the whole screen for me, needing to scroll for to see the button on bottom.

Context Search X

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As a old ContextSearch's user, It's nice to see somebody working for to add new features. Something that I'm really expecting to see is the possibility of to maintain open the popup after to open a search in a new background tab, so you can to trigger multiples searches rapidly (without extra addons as OSE). Anyway, thanks for the work.

Urimod

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like the idea, with the urlbar icon for to swap and the possibility of regular expressions, but it needs serious tuning work yet. Bad choice with F6: it's a Fx shortcut. And after a short time playing with the addon I get the same problem posted by @Cesar: Restarting Fx helps you here.

Also, please remove the (computer aided) Spanish locale. Is bad as hell. To translate "URI Match" as "URI del partido" killed me.

Key config

Key config != keyconfig Rated 3 out of 5 stars

A warning: do not be confused with the keyconfig addon by dorando (http://mozilla.dorando.at/readme.html). This is a completely different addon.

I didn't try this extension. By features It looks useful. If it implements in the future the feature "Importing/exporting settings to a file, compatible with Opera presets", It can to end being a real nice alternative.

Menu Editor

A necessary evil Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Since Menu Editor is unique taking into account all its features, well, it's an essential addon. But the lack of updates and fixes of bugs is annoying. Understandable in this case, as the developer isn't working actively on this.

Context Search RG

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I really like the idea, but while it can't to work inside textboxes, no way I can to leave the "Context Search" addon, sadly. And, as others mentioned, it need yet more options for to control the opening of tabs (open in background, etc.)

About the problem with MenuEditor, it isn't the fault of Context Search RG. Menu Editor isn't compatible with the new splitmenus added in Fx4, and, seriously, I doubt it will soon be (having a single update in the last 3 years...)

Tab Utilities

Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I remember yet the nice surprise that was to discover the Tab Mix Plus addon, many years ago. Really helped me to improve my web experience with Fx. But now, using Tab Utiilties as my exclusive tab management addon for almost a year, I choose TU, between many others, by far. Lightweight, a lot of features, a great support, its options for to control multiples tabs simultaneously is almost as the whole 'Multiple Tab Handler' extension, and its api let you to add custom tab related commands, shorcuts and more with a bit of work. But, important, only a limited number of its options are included in its Preferences dialog. Only understanding the hidden preferences and (more important!) reading the support thread that you can to see the real scope (and brilliance) of the extension. Anyway, if someone does not want to complicate with it, can perfectly use it beginning with only the visible options.

Cheers for the developer for his work.

Text2Link

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Good addon, used by a long time. But with Fx4 it needs work yet. It ignores completely the fact that Fx has a (more limited) support for this same feature: Selecting exactly a url not marked as html link give you duplicated entries in the context menu (Fx's and the extension's)

On the other hand, cheers for the support webpage: it explains you exactly the scope and possibilities of the addon, including a detailed tutorial about how it was written. Fantastic.

Personal Menu (Personal Firefox Button)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

A very good addon; A must have for really to make the most of the Firefox menu. However, It needs tuning work yet for a good integration of your custom splitmenus (comparing with the default)

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (5.0.3).

Back/forward dropmarker

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I expected to get the default look for the dropmarker; actually it's very tiny for me; I ended removing css code inside the addon. Anyway, it works flawless.

Smart location (smart text)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I'm glad to see an active alternative to LocationBar2, working for to integrate with Status-4-Evar too. Looks really promising. But there are serious problems with the look of the urlbar on linux systems (without others addons), and, well, the preferences dialog is a mess. Anyway, nice work.

EDIT: 4.4b4 solved the linux problem

Themed Button for Linux

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Looks nice. A bit of love for linux users, thanks.
Suggestion: Set a different color for the button while private mode is used.

Fission

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

The unique 'only for eye-candy' addon that I let me install with Fx. Really nice.

Status-4-Evar addon works really good supporting the same functionality for Firefox 4.
