Tark (Temporary Bookmarks)

Need to be able to tag tarks and then to make them permanent Rated 3 out of 5 stars

What would make this much more useful for me would be

1. to be able to tag the tarks like any other bookmark. I sometimes want to mark large numbers of pages to do with various aspects of current news stories. They need to be temporary because most of them will become obsolete as events unfold, but I still need to be able to search them.

2. It should be possible to make a Tark permanent easily without losing all the tags that I have suggested above that we should be able to add. For example I have collected a lot of articles about a particular news event. Most of those will become obsolete, but some of them will remain useful.

Unfortunately I have had to stop using this extension because it makes page scrolling slow and jittery to the point that it is very hard to control. This is a pity because I used to find this extension useful, and what it does it does very well.

Very badly needed this, but a way to go yet. If you have text that is truncated with a "read more" link beside it, you can't expand it. In other words the text is not saved. It also seems to be impossible to browse what you have saved.

For some reason I find this easier to use than Scrapbook or Tark, but I'm not quite sure why.

There are two points preventing me giving it five stars. Firstly it will not save pages for offline viewing in the background, meaning that I can't browse the web until it has finished. And secondly, it is not possible to select individual pages in your reading list for offline reading (although I wouldn't say that that was a major failing).

What might be even better would be to be able to save a certain depth of linked pages for offline viewing, or just linked pages from the same server, in other words to include more of the functionality of wget and similar commands. This would be useful, for instance, when you have added the home page of a small and simple web site to your reading list, and know you will want to read the rest of the site.

iMacros for Firefox

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Forgot to mention in my review that it would be useful to be able to bookmark the macros in specific bookmark folders rather than the bookmark root folder, or else to be able to search your list of macros. As it is, I can see it being annoying going on difficult to manage large numbers of macros.

This will be very handy. I've only given it 4 stars because my first macro did not work immediately, although in the end it did work for some reason I don't understand. In other words you may need patience and/or editing to get some macros running smoothly. That said, to be able to log into without going through 6 pages and a form (Belgian bureaucracy has not escaped the Internet age), is a miracle that deserves to trumpeted for all eternity.

Contacts Sidebar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Being able to forward contacts to other people is a must-have feature on its own. A very useful extension.

Select Address Book Text

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Unfortunately I haven't found this very useful. While you can copy all the contact details in one go, they get pasted so jumbled up that they are almost unreadable. To be able to copy one field at a time isn't a great advantage over opening the properties and doing the same thing.

Rename Attachment

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Pretty damn simple, but, as the author indicates, extremely useful if you want to avoid sending out a file called "mcjob cv.doc"

I think this theme is really... erm... tasteful. It works perfectly in Windows, but in Linux there is a bug which makes the items in the pull-down menus go blank when the mouse is over them. Otherwise I would have given it five stars.

Mailbox Alert

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Does what it says it does. The current thunderbird alert system is useless for anyone who receives a lot of mail. This extension is an excellent replacement.

A feature I would like to see in the future would be the ability to get alerts on receipt of mails from a specified list of addresses, or to specify a list of addresses you don't want to trigger a notification.

Tab Shortcut

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Pity this doesn't work with Firefox 3. It provides a very simple feature of Opera that I have been desperately missing in Firefox.

I disagree with the reviewer who said this should use the mouse because most people have their hands on it. I avoid the mouse as much as possible because I find it uncomfortable and I find the trackpad a bit awkward to use.

To the developer: Please don't worry about adding lots of extra functions right now. Fix the bugs and port this to Firefox 3 and I guarantee that you will have at least one loyal user.
