I agree with the greater part of what @TrueBlue1981's review wrote in his/her review. When YTC is enabled, Firefox freezes quite often and actually everytime you open a new YouTube video. This applies to an even greater extent if you have enabled the "lights off" setting by default (all but the video frame turns darker so that you don't get distracted by the rest of the content on the current page). There also seems to be a heavy memory leak, which also means that there is a major secuirty risk with this addon. There is also a major increas in CPU usage when playing YT videos, while YTC is running. Even greater than using the standard Flash player I might add.
However despite all that it does offer a couple of neat features and that is why I give it 3 stars. The greatest of all is the HTML5 wrapping feature that enables you to play videos in HTML5 video format (+1 star). This is a huge deal for Linux users because Flash player for Linux is complete garbage. Another cool feature is the large set of aspect ratio and player sizes, allowing the user to tweak the player according to the video itself AND to the display he/she is watching it on (+1 star). You are also able to tweak many other things. (+1 star)
If the bugs are fixed, YTC will definitely get 5 stars from me.
This addon is good. It is indeed a must have if you own a Linux machine and don't have decent support for the Flash player (most don't). Depending on how old your GPU is Flash player might crash less or all the time. YouTube Center allows you to watch all YouTube-videos using HTML5. First things first there are some minor issues with the UI. The most noticable one is when you resize the player, which leads to a screwed up trackbar of the player. But that's not the biggest issue. For some reason there are some performance issues when you first load the video. It happens quite often that the video actually starts playing (after some sluggishness on the screen) and then a couple of seconds of playing it just resets and starts from the beginning and this time it goes all the way to the end so I guess it's not that big of a deal. Another thing is the light off feature, which I really love but it seems to be sluggish too. My machine can definitely handle all that so I'm guessing it has something to do with this addon. All that is however nothing compared to the fact that - as I mentioned above - you can watch in an HTML5 pure Flash videos that is videos that YouTube does not offer HTML5 rendering by default. That's why I take away only a single and not two or more stars from my rating. If you manage to fix at least those performance issues this addon will be golden.
Hi! I did a fresh install of Firefox yesterday (removed previous configurations etc. since it was a long time ago I had it in my Ubuntu and wanted to make sure there are no compatibility issues). I have installed a bunch of extensions such as NoScript, AdBlock Edge, Ghosty etc. Even when those are disabled I'm still unable to add a new location. New York is the default one (it cannot be removed but can be renamed) and nothing else appears when I use the search field for new locations. At first I thought it was the city I was choosing (although not as famous as some capital it is still there on the map and it's present on the website of accuweather) but then I tried with cities such as London, Paris, Berlin, Beijing, Tokyo, Sidney etc. and it still wouldn't budge. Please fix it or give some feedback what we can do to make it work. This user has a previous review of this add-on.
Works like a charm. Definitely much better having a small add-on than a whole separate application (tons of them out there many of which are more than 10-15MB and have just a few options in addition to the basics). Thanks a lot! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0.7).
Excellent! No problems at all. Thanks for this great add-on!This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.6.3.9).
Pretty amazing what this small add-on is capable of. :)
Tried it and now can't live without it. No matter where I go and change/add my bookmarks, they are always up to date! Thanks for this very useful tool.
I give ** and not * only because before Firefox 3 it worked really superb...But since Firefox 3 (RC or final version), it doesn't work:
- no login-option
- no upload/download possibility
- it looks really strange - only a border a little bit above the status bar
- in full mode (as a new Firefox-window/-tab, there is a login-optoin, which of course doesn't work :(
I like it...Really.But since Firefox 3 I cannot login to upload any files. Why? I mean, I use my password every single day and I've never had a problem with it. but here I get the message "Login failed. Check your username and password and try again!". I am 10000% sure, that I make it right! Why, why? It's because of this problem that I give good and not very good/excellent... :-/This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.5.94).
Hmm...It is very nice to have something like that but the fact that with some themes it cannot be seen (try with White Art for example) is dull :) It would be nice if there was an option to choose a border color for the tab-previews... ^^This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.2.2.8).
Aaah, man, finally :):):) Thanx a lot! This theme is the greatest of all! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0).
...until I went out with a T-shirt and short throusers like everyone. It was really hot out there but this gadget showed 4oCelsius above the zero!!! This was the moment I stopped using it.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.6).
Smooth, simple, compact but at the same time facinating design. I've been using it for more than a year and I've changed only a couple of times for about...10-15 minutes to try another one but I always get back to this one. I just love it. Thanks!
PS:Yeh, it would be nice to update the theme to be compatible with Foxy 3.0 ;)
Well, my language was German. I've installed the addon, then I changed the language to English (UK). After reloading the window, a message above my Settings window appeared, telling me in order to use Gmail Skins to change in English(US). Well, I did that and...Nothing happened :( Waste of time. A very good idea (although I am sure that with this addon new vulnerabilities will appear but nobody's save :)), but very bad realization. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.9.8).
