Pimpoflage - Auto Hide Options for Status Bar and Navigation Bar

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Pimpoflage does not work correctly in Firefox 3.6.16 and 3.6.17. If you leave Firefox running and hibernate, when you resume Firefox will not respond and has to be closed. I believe it may also be responsible for a problem with themes in Firefox 4 and Firefox 5 Beta where everything above the address bar appears black. This extension has not been updated since October 2009. It is too old now and I do not recommend it.

Stop-or-Reload Button

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Sometimes it says it is not compatible with Firefox 3 and won't install. Or it stops working for the same reason. If you reinstall it it works again. It's a good extension when it works, but minus 1 star for the compatibility bug.

Rewind/Fastforward Buttons

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have used this extension with Firefox for a number of years. However, since the upgrade to Firefox 3.5.1 I have had problems with Firefox keep crashing, as with the previous reviewers. I disabled all extensions, then re-enabled them one at a time. Rewind/Fast Forward Buttons is the culprit I'm afraid, and needs updating to be compatible with Firefox 3.5.1. In the meantime I use Link Widgets which has similar, but not identical, functionality.

Show Go!

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It's a complete waste of time having an extension for this. All you need to show the Go button is to insert the following code in userchrome.css:-

#go-button { visibility: visible !important; }

You don't need to write an extension to do everything.

Menu Mod

Further to my previous review Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have found a way to restore the Tools menu without uninstalling/reinstalling MenuMod.
1. Type "about:config" (without the quotes) into the address bar.
2. You will see a warning dialogue. Click on the button to continue.
3. Scroll down until you find the value "extensions.menumod.menuitem-tools-menu" which is currently set to "true".
4. Right-click on it and select "Toggle". This set the value to false and unhide the Tools menu.
5. Close the tab/window to exit about:config.

Menu Mod

It's good, but be careful about hiding the Tools menu Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension is useful as it allows you to control what menus are shown, and what items are shown in each menu.

It also has 2 space saving features, to place all menus inside another, or to show only the underlined letter of each menu.

Be careful though. If you hide the Tools menu, you will no longer be able to access the MenuMod extension via Tools->Add-ons. To restore the Tools menu, you will have to start Firefox in Safe mode, uninstall MenuMod, and restart Firefox.

1-ClickWeather

Further to my previous review Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I have found a way to change the forecast location without uninstalling/reinstalling the program.

Opening the preferences window takes you to the setup tab. You should just be able to type the new location here and click "save and exit" but this does not work, the old location remains.

After you have typed the new location, you must click on to another tab before clicking "save and exit". Now the new location is updated.

Another bug is that if you have international satellite maps disabled, every time you open preferences it re-enables itself unless you click on the international satellite maps tab.

I also find that after changing preferences, the 1-click weather display is not always updated properly to reflect the changes made.

The developer really needs to address all this bugs in the next release, and due to these I cannot justify increasing my rating for this addon.

1-ClickWeather

Difficult to change the forecast location or to contact the developer Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Good, but a bug means that you have to uninstall it and reinstall it to change the forecast location. This is most inconvenient, as you then have to reselect all your other preferences as well.

There seems no way to contact the developer regarding bugs. The support section for this addon takes you into a "contact us" page with a list of subjects, none of which are relevant to this extension.

Would have been 5 starts but minus 2 stars for these issues.

Exit Button Firefox

Answers to Previous Reviewers' Questions Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Q1. "How is it better than clicking on the "Close" button in the Window's titlebar?"
and
"you already have 1 Exit button! its the one on the right corner marked with X".

A1: The Close button is not an Exit button. If you have several Firefox windows open, the Close button only closes the current window. The Exit button will close all windows.

Q2: "firefox continues to run after closing out".

A2: Yes it does, but only for a few seconds. This happens regardless of how you exit Firefox and has nothing to do with the button itself.

FEBE

Beta version now available for FF3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This extension is great, it allows you to easily backup/restore your bookmarks, preferences, extensions etc.

A beta version for FF3 is available from the developer's website: http://customsoftwareconsult.com/extensions/febe/febe60.html/firefox/pm/.

Although it is a beta version it works fine for me.

Actually I have found that several extensions work with FF3 if you uninstall them and reinstall them, or download them from the developers' websites instead.

This is a great extension, just click on the green tick to clear the history, then click on the eye to start monitoring again.

If you would like this for FF3, version 0.8.1 can be downloaded from the developer's website: http://www.gness.com/distrust/.
