The counting glitches in FF12, when using Tab Groups (Panorama) and extensions Tab Groups Menu and TabMixPlus. There's some detection issue when closing tabs, so the count becomes wrong quite often. Having said that this extension is very old and has not been updated in years AFAICS, so no wonder some adjustment might be needed to make it more stable in the latest FF releases.
(I use this also in FF3.6.28 and it never glitches there.)
Is there a change log to be read somewhere? Hard to find anything at all telling us users what changed between different versions of this add-on...
E.g. the latest version, what was changed?
I haven't seen any of the issues ppl are writing about here, like double Findbars, or not appearing at all. In my FF 11 (Win XP), this does exactly what it does in my old FF 3.6.x (used it for years). My guess is that there are problems with some other extension(s) that make things behave badly for other people. I use a different theme (Classic Compact) and ~50 extensions and I have no problems with the Findbar when using Find Toolbar Tweaks 3.0.0
So this is good, some improvements would be nice like showing 'x of y' when searching repeatedly with ctrl+G etc.
This extension is pretty much unmaintained these days so nothing much happens here.
This *does* make a difference for speed. But it depends on some things, e.g. which version of FF you have.
This ext does something sane for caching in older versions of FF, e.g. 3.6.x, but not so much in the newer FF5-11 because the handling of disk cache size has changed such that normally the Fasterfox setting for Disk Cache Capacity has no effect at all.
I'd not advice anyone with less than 4G of mem to have Memory Cache Capacity size set to anything else than -1 (= automatically calculated). The Piplining and Connections part of this work quite well!
But the rendering is a bit dodgy, there's almost never any point in setting the Inital Paint Delay to anything less than 250 unless you have a *really* fast PC and 100 Mbit broadband. Lowering it to 100 may be good in that case, but not less.
Since this exts Presets insist on setting some things to more or less non-optimal values, one needs to go into Custom and tweak stuff. And that's not very user friendly, so part of the point of Fasterfox fails at it is now. I still like it, having these options settings in one place where I can have a good overview of the perf affecting stuff -- therefore 4 stars
The latest version 0.6.5, not available here but at
still works AOK in FF 11 as far as I can see. It's a bit hard to use, the list of stuff you can manipulate isn't very easy to interpret -- which icon is which etc.
Some ppl argue that all this Status bar stuff is obsolete, and the Addon Bar proper should be used instead, where you can drag and arrange the extension icons as you wish. But the fact remains that many exts behave in the old fasioned way: 'Status Icons' and this is not going away any time soon.
This addon does what it says, and there's definitely a need for it so what more can one ask for?
This is *the* well made space saver. Works really well, and the author tries diligently to keep it compatible with other very widely used exts, such as Tab Mix Plus (there have been issues there in the past).
One thing I haven't been able to figure out is how to switch between all the different types of arrows -- in my Classic Compact Options 18.104.22.168 in FF11 there's no menu called "Toolbar arrow style". So I've never been able to check out what it looks like with all the different variants of arrows available in the theme.
And: after installing the CCO extension, it displays a tab with an example page showing all the various alternative of buttons etc, I lost this tab and now I just cannot find the page which it displayed anymore..!
There's one oddity that I've seen; choosing Toolbar buttons = Firefox 3 WinXP & Display toolbar button borders: Only back/forward
will also put button borders on the Bookmarks and History buttons (they both have drop down menu markers). That's probably not supposed to happen.
This is very good, like a bunch of other ppl I agree that with this ext 'Panorama' actually becomes usable.
One thing: pls add an option to remove the new menu in the Menu Bar completely, so that the only way to access TabGroup is via the Panorama button.
