Does not translate HTTPS Rated 2 out of 5 stars
Unfortunately despite claiming to do so, this plugin does not translate https pages. The error message reports that "The page to be translated cannot be a local file or http". FF 36.0
Works well Rated 5 out of 5 stars
I was about to write a review saying that it didn't work at all. And then I discovered that the reason it wasn't working was because the hostname part of the URLs I was trying were not fully qualified domain names. Shortly was saying "generating short url '(null)' and copied to clipboard".
The upshot of this is that actually Shortly does work really well (on properly qualified URLs) Thank you!
(A request is that it would be good for Shortly to report a meaningful error if bit.ly refuses to generate a short url, rather than reporting that a '(null)' link had been created and copied to the clipboard.)
Fail Rated 1 out of 5 stars
Zero stars. No matter what URL I try, all I seem to get is "The url in the urlbar is not a valid one".
It works for this page on which I typing a review, so it looks like the "http://" is still required (explained as a work-around by an earlier reviewer), which suggests that this add-on has been broken since at least October 2011, and it's now May 2012.
