I already gave this add-on a positive review. This here is a bad one, because for many versions the feature "download videos from youtube link(s)", using the contextual menu, starts duplicate downloads, which is quite annoying, since I have to cancel one of the downloads. So, this feature, which actually is essential, is USELESS.
I'm on a Mac, FF 35.
Unfortunately, this add-on doesn't work very well with Apple's TextEdit, because some UTF-8 characters get corrupted.
It works much better with TextMate. But TextMate is a more complex text editor. If you don't know it, it will take a bit of time to set it up so it behaves like TextEdit, but then it will work fine with this add-on.
Thank you for this! I haven't seen any ads yet and I hope it's really ad free. If not, I'll change my review later.
It works well, although it doesn't detect as many videos as DownloadHelper. Also, when you download more than one video with the same title, DFV adds a (1), (2), etc. to the file EXTENSION! [like ".mp4 (1)"] — Correct and better would be to add numbers to the title only, before the extension.
1) It works with many sites, not only Youtube.
2) You can open the downloading file in your desktop video player and start watching it right away, don't have to wait for download to complete.
1) On Youtube it has problems with playlists (doesn't always recognize videos).
2) Downloads MUCH slower than "Download YouTube Videos as MP4", for ex.
3) Bloated with too many functions you don't really need.
4) Not very intuitive.
Very good! Thanks for this! But, unfortunately when you pause a download, it will start downloading from the beginning again, when you want to resume it. I was downloading a large video from Youtube and paused it short before it was completed, losing what was already downloaded.
Very good, BUT: You cannot start watching the video in a video player while file is being downloaded. You must wait until file download is complete. With DownloadHelper it's possible to watch an incomplete file straight away, you don't have to wait. Why this difference? This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.7.30).
Thank you for this, but must the icon (button) be so ugly? This review is for a previous version of the add-on (33.0).
I liked Pocket and used it for many years, without having an account, but now it requires (forces) users to have an online account and you must be logged in, in order to be able to use Pocket.
I don't like that. So I changed to Save-To-Read ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/save-to-read/ ). It's basically the same, but it stores links locally only, no need to be logged in somewhere.
I switched to this after Pocket doesn't allow anymore to save links locally. You have to have an online account. I don't like that. This add-on does the same, but save links locally only, and that's how it should be, at least for me.
OK, it's not as elegant as Pocket but it does the same. It would be nice if I could make the floating panel a bit longer, to see more links at once without having to scroll, but it's really not a problem.
I was able to use Pocket without having an account. It saved my links locally. Today I reinstalled it and now I must sing in. What happened? Can't I use it anymore without having an account and being logged in? I'm sorry, but I really liked that feature! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0.5). Thanks for this! It's the best, because it automatically remembers highlighted texts without additional click. Other add-ons require you to save the highlighted text passages, which is very annoying.
Only small problem is it puts 4 buttons on your toolbar. But I'm sure developer will improve this. I use the status bar and dragged them there, where they are smaller and don't bother me.
Thanks for this!
I have set up everything to open in new tabs, but when I click the home page button, it opens in the same tab. How can I make the home page open in a new tab as well?
Edit: I have to register in your forum just for that * ONE * question?!? OK, then I tried to register and I couldn't because my IP was blocked because I allegedly am a spammer! This is crazy! No, thanks...
Why is this not being developed anymore? It's sooooo useful!!!
Please, update it, so I can give it 5 stars. Thank you.
Very useful!!! Thank you!
But if you, like me, use search engines in languages that have accents, like Portuguese, some engines may not find the words you search for, because of the wrong character encoding. In this case, try this:
After the page of a dictionary is opened, under Firefox menu "View" change the character encoding of the page to UTF-8. Only THEN (!) add the search engine to the search bar. That way the engine will be created with UTF-8 encoding and words with accents will be found.
When I pause a download in the middle and later click on "resume", it seems the download starts over again from the beginning, not keeping what was already downloaded. Anyone experiencing the same?
FF 29.0.1, Mac, Desktop. It happens with Youtube videos, for ex., which I download with DownloadHelper. I also tested it with SpeedUP DNS disabled.
Wonderful. Thank you! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.05).
Very nice, but when I pause the video, a dotted outline appears around it, which is very annoying. I tried many CSS tricks to get rid of this outline, but nothing worked.
Any suggestion, please?
Firefox 25.0.1, Mac
Thank you. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.08).
It's the first add-on I've ever used that displays ads. There so awsome add-ons out there with no ads, why would someone want to use one that display ads? No, thank you! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.97.5).
Thanks for this nice add-on, but in my humble opinion this new version, now called Pocket, is uglier than the previous. Logo and buttons now are bigger. I liked them, when they were small. I'm using FF 14 on a Mac.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0.0). This user has other reviews of this add-on.
