If I seem generous with the stars, it's because I only bother reviewing add-ons that I've been using for months, so there's not much chance of it being a 2 or 3 star mediocre thing.
Currently the best torrent metasearch engine out there. Others may have more sites, but Torrent Meta Search packs the most features into the smallest, least obtrusive package. Doesn't bombard you with ads, or do who-knows-what like a plug-in or extension.
Besides sortable categories, my favorite feature is that it also shows comments and screenshots on mouseover when available. While it doesn't completely replace every torrent search, it covers the major sites and is generally all you need. THE go-to torrent search engine. You won't be disappointed.
If you don't know the implications of changing network settings, then you shouldn't change them. This is not a magical Go Faster extension, no extension can do that. The "turbo" setting may open too many connections, and some websites or networks WILL throttle or block you if you open too many connections at once. It's not the extension's fault if you misuse it.
The developer should consider removing or renaming the "turbo" preset, and making "courteous" the default setting. That's the reason behind the "MAEKS MY FIREFOX SLOW!!1!" negative reviews.
AdBlock Plus completely transforms the internet experience. Filter subscriptions make it a "set and forget" add-on, so you can put it on anyone's system. So easy and convienient it's like a magic trick, it feels like cheating (and kinda is, don't forget to give deserving sites some ad click revenue). People have offered to pay me to "show me how you made the ads all go away"... something to keep in mind next time you see the author's Donation button! Once you've used it, browsing the web is painful without it.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.9).
Requires a bit of tweaking and getting used to, and may be a bit too complex for your grandparents, but 5 stars anyways because FF + NoScript is the best thing you can do to help secure your browsing. If everyone used NoScript and a good AV program, a lot of computer repair shops would go out of business. Now that I think about it, it's even worth teaching grandma to use Noscript, saves you time in the long run.Browsing the web without NoScript is like eating things off the sidewalk. Don't do it, kids! This review is for a previous version of the add-on (184.108.40.206).
Folks, stick with the "courteous" preset if you don't understand the implications of changing network settings, and make sure prefetching is turned off. The opposite of "courteous" is "rude", some websites WILL throttle or block you if you open too many connections at once. It's not the extension's fault if you misuse it.
BigRedBrent might want to consider removing or renaming the "turbo" preset, it's probably the reason behind a lot of negative reviews. It's not a magical "go faster" button, more of a magical "annoy webmasters" button.
