I've been using Firefox the day it came out. I also used the Mozilla browser for years before Firefox even came out. Love the addons.
My favorites and the reason I still stick with Firefox (basically in order): Tab Mix Plus, Mouseless Browsing (for Dragon Nat. Speaking), Highlighter, SearchWP, DownThemAll!, AdBlock Plus, NoScript, CookieSafe, Scrapbook and IE Tab 2 (sometimes).
My rating is really a 4.5* for the current one, and assuming they'll come out with a fix soon. But through the years it's worked great for me. I went from FF 3.6 to FF 6.0 Beta 3 last week with a clean install of Win7. Tonight I finally decided to create another profile, for testing this out. I read that if you change the install.rdf and <em:maxVersion>4.* value from 4.* or 5.* to 6.* you can make it work. Well I did that and it works. Granted I made a Profile backup of 3.6 and when I installed FF 6.0b3 I just did a clean install and installed all my addons individually. But I also saved the settings (exported within the options of the addon) of all of them to start with a clean slate if possible.
Worked very well, but I missed not having ScrapBook and CNExtend (got it to work also with same method). Forgot about CookieSafe, one of my favorites, but in last 8 minutes I can't get that one to work. It shows up as compatible, but clicking on the icon does nothing as before. CookieSafe's <em:maxVersion>4.0 looks a little different.
So if you absolutely need ScrapBook, you can make it work with the new versions. I also used the left click on addon bar _Edit Before Save_ and that also seems to be working correctly. Just make sure you open up two different Win Explorer windows with last Profile you saved and I'd create a new profile to test it out. Hope that helps.
I've been trying the lock... tab features in Tab Mix Plus but they don't work.
So I decided to go searching for one that might work. Some days I go to a lot of news websites and they seem to auto-reload from time to time. It's very annoying when your reading some comments and then the page reloads. Get's very frustrating. So far Right clicking the Reload button and choosing _Freeze Tab_ freezes that tab and it doesn't show up again. I have numerous ones open that used to do it and with Tab Mix Plus settings where tabs I haven't read show up in a differnet color and background color it's easy to tell.
Thanks. Works very good. Even with FF 6.0 beta's.
I have used it for awhile and like it.I used the original one, but when they didn't update it for Firefox xx (I can't remember) soon enough, I switched to this and haven't looked back. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (22.214.171.124).
I have been using for many, many years.
Easily a 5 Star addon.
Love it !!!
Have used for years with Dragon Naturally Speaking and like it.This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.5.3.1Build201101051500).
One of the best addons available. Easily 5 stars.
If you visit a lot of pages like I do then it takes awhile to get it set up, but so worth it. Nice to have more security control over your browser.
For those that think it blocks too much you always have the XSS Whitelist you can do in the Options (which I think could be way easier though). Or you could install a new Firefox in Sandboxie and run NoScript and other security ones with some protections disabled. Doing this you can have 2 separate Firefox's going at the same time, very nice.
Thanks for this.
Have used this for many years.
I believe if more people knew about it and used it correctly it'd be one of the most popular addons out there.
I've been using this for many, many years. Love it.
However I am still on Firefox 3.6
So after reading some of the reviews here I may wait a little longer on the Firefox 4 update now. Thought the Highlighter workaround by NettiCats was the last one holding me back.
A must have. Been using for many, many years. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.8).
Love this addon. Been using for many years. Comes in handy if your doing research on something. For instance research on new PC's. Can save the page and make highlights within it and notes.
A fair amount of the stuff I use it for is temporary while researching something, but it is a very, very nice tool once you figure out the ways to use it.
Thanks for this.
Easily 5 Stars. If it was out of 100 I'd give it a 97%, it's that good.
I've used it for many, many years and it is one of the best out there. I use the Previous sessions everyday and also save them for later from time to time. I usually have 7-10 windows and anywhere from 30-80 tabs every time I start up.
I also like being able to change the colors of the tabs I've not read yet, or make it bolder, or have a yellow background on the current one your using.... Many nice features.
update: (November) 11-09-11 He switched to another website: http://nc.ddns.us/MyAddons/MyAddons.htm
I have used this addon for many years. One of my favorites. I have also used the Highlighter update from http://nc.ddns.us/MyAddons/MyAddons.htm and it works good.
I just went to his page again and I see he also made that BetterPrivcy one which I'm going to test out on my test Sandboxie Firefox install.
With NettiCat's Highlighter update I can now make the switch to Firefox 4.0.1 The last addon I've been holding out on.
Since it's been so long I hope NettiCat just makes his own and calls it Highlighter Plus or Highlighter2.
So I guess it still gets a 5 since I've used it for so many years. But since it hasn't been updated for so long, really a 3, but with the alternative that works great then it's still a 5 in my book.
u11-09-11 I've made it work up to 7.0.1 changing the Max version to 8.* but this trick is not actually working for version 8.0 Final. Anyone have a solution?
I absolutely __love__ this addon.
