My Reviews

Bluhell Firewall

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Excellent add-on and does exactly what it says on the tin.

If possible would like the ability to define custom rules for the few situations where it does not work.

metal archives search

Essential Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great search add-on for the best metal site around.

Video WithOut Flash

Brilliant Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Flash is most commonly used for online video nowadays. If you have been just waiting to uninstall it when someone comes up with an alternative to it, well, that day has arrived. Uninstall Flash and grab this add-on instead. It's like amputating a gangrenous limb.

Adblock Edge

Great add-on Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've used Adblock Plus for years but am not a huge fan of the direction it's been going recently. Adblock Edge brings the add-on back to basics, with lower memory use and features.

The only thing I miss is the Element Hiding Helper add-on I used with plus - a similar feature in Adblock Edge would greatly expand its functionality and would be very useful.

Memory Fox

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

On Windows 7 x64, running 32 bit Firefox, this plug-in produced a "memory release failed" message upon loading any page, causing the entire browser to become unresponsive until the error message was clicked (often, it appeared in the background and required me to move the browser window to see it).

Given that this add-on appears to be unusable in its current state, I recommend you stay away from it.

Xmarks Sync

Near-broken for me Rated 1 out of 5 stars

After a lot of issues and errors with installation, I finally got things working. Unfortunately, running Firefox 14, I found the add-on appears to be broken. Even though it claimed to sync properly, it did not actually download anything and bookmark changes in other browsers were not reflected. I can't say it's broken outright, as some users may have success, but I certainly didn't.

Shame, because LastPass is an excellent add-on and pretty well maintained. I'd like to see Xmarks reach the same level of quality and reliability as a service.

LastPass Password Manager

Needs to be updated more regularly Rated 3 out of 5 stars

LastPass, as a service, is great. The Firefox add-on, most of the time, is great. Unfortunately, in the last several months I've had two or three instances of LastPass being marked as incompatible with Firefox and thus has been unusable. In most cases the creators took several days or longer to update their compatibility flags, and in one or two cases I actually reverted to previous Firefox versions just so I wouldn't be stuck without my passwords. This has occurred even on the standard release channel.

I'm not 100% certain if it's LastPass at fault or Mozilla for not approving updates quickly enough, but either way it's an annoyance that shouldn't happen quite so often for such a critical add-on.

Lazarus: Form Recovery

Good... when it works Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Lazarus is fantastic and will most definitely save you a lot of headaches. Unfortunately it is not updated very frequently (even the 3.0.5 version on the main site is outdated) and it often is not able to handle certain types of forms, including some WYSIWYG editors found on message boards. Would really appreciate if the developer would continue to keep it updated.

Spyware Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This add-on sends your browsing history to third parties, and additionally serves as a security risk by sending its data unecrypted. Avoid it.

Lazarus: Form Recovery

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Doesn't work very well in latest nightly builds of Firefox. For some reason, Lazarus only appears on occasion in my tray, and restoring forms is often not even an available option. I haven't found any regularity to these issues, but considering that they're in the beta versions of Lazarus as well, I can't recommend the add-on unless you want a stable version. When it works, it works extremely well, however, and it's saved my butt on a few occasions.
