Touch VPN

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Mozillians, beware! Don't touch *any* alleged VPN Fx Extension without serious research.

"VPN Proxy". What's that? A VPN and a Proxy are two very different things. Genuine VPN = high level Security and Secrecy (but nothing is perfect) and Proxies are pretty much useless these days having been smashed wide open by those-who-wish-to-spy and those-who-wish-to-steal-your-activity-data.

It is noted that all of this extension's servers are within countries that are members of the international "Eyes" agreement where, by law, companies offering web/internet services are required to keep logs of their customer's/user's activity for inspection by Government agencies.
We are not told where Touch VPN or AnchorFree Inc has it's headquarters or business registration but we might (therefore) reasonably assume that T-VP HQ also sits inside the Eyes Network and that everything you do whilst "hiding" inside Touch VPN (or proxy) is being recorded, which is just the total opposite of the implied privacy offered by this and many other so-called VPN Fx extensions.

God knows why the human monitors at AMO (addons.mozilla.org) are letting this kind of crap land on a page (AMO) that by it's very nature should reference only 100% trustworthy extensions.

Still restricted by Fx absurd limitations.
The star rating is for Mozilla - not the extension developer.

Save Image In Folder

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

A good attempt at replicating Save Image in Folder. Unfortunately it fails because Mozilla fails to provide an API that would make it work properly. Having to find and then type in every possible download location (which can only be within default download location and therefore requiries new locations that don't fit my file structure) is a pain in the rectum. Remember when specifying a folder (any folder) was just a click away?
I have advised Mozilla that the current "Save" API is not acceptable. I hope that the brave developer of this extension and all of its users have followed a similar path.
This is my computing device. These are my multiple HardDrives. It is my choice where stuff gets saved (it is not Mozilla's role to restrict this choice).

Rename Tab Title

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Below there are some comments that amount to this extension being "inflexible" because it won't work on a global basis but only on individual tabs. The extension is called "Rename Tab Title" and that is exactly what it does. If it renamed every tab from a particular site to exactly the same tab title it would be of no value to me and would indeed be "inflexible". The whole point, surely, is to pinpoint a specific url by a chosen name.
It works just fine (does what it says on tin).

Cookie AutoDelete

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Congratulations Kenny on reiterating a lost must-have extension.
As time goes by Cookie AutoDelete will, no doubt, just get better and better.

Nightly Tester Tools

#"Gone to Pot Rated 1 out of 5 stars

@ Henriik
I understand your sensitivity to my recent review in which (among other things) I congratulated you on keeping Nightly afloat.
I cannot, in all honesty, change my "star rating" because, whosoever's fault it is, Nightly is a shadow of it's former self.
Sadly, I do not have the skills required to help. This makes me sad.

Nightly Tester Tools

A great Extension... Rated 1 out of 5 stars

...gone to pot.

Due to Mozilla's inability, or refusal, to provide appropriate API's the really useful "Nightly" stuff, such as including user's profile name in title bar, is gone.
How ironic that an extension once considered so important that when its original developer retired Fx took it under a foxy wing but Mozilla now can't be bothered to make it work.
My thanks to current dev's for keeping Nightly afloat but is this much less useful version really worth your time and effort?

Show My Password

This still works Rated 5 out of 5 stars

If, as happened to me, Firefox disables this excellent extension because it is "not compatible" take no notice. Just use one of (no doubt) many other Fx extensions to override this false claim. I used a function of Mozilla's own "Nightly tester tools". Show My Password is still marked "incompatible" but it is no longer "disabled" and it works the same ever. Incompatible? Pah Phooey!

Tumblr Unrecommend

Does nothing? Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This extension seems to have zero functionality.

VPN Unlimited - Private & Secure Web Proxy

Don't touch this. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Do not touch this with a barge pole. It is not a Firefox extension in any normal sense. It is, rather, a very limited and short free trial of a commercially available program. Furthermore the need to create an account and sign in to KeepSolid negates any privacy that might be gained. Zero Stars.

Still works Rated 4 out of 5 stars

CacheToggle still does what it says on the tin and so far as I can discover is the only similar extension that remembers cache state (on/off) between Fx sessions. All others seem to revert to "cache on" at restart which is inconvenient.

To make CacheToggle work as intended just adopt one of many extensions that restore the Firefox Add-On Bar. At the moment, the best add-on bar replacement seems to be Puzzle Bars.
Only four stars because it relies on another extension to be visible.

Broken :-( Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This extension is broken by Firefox 29 (Fx "Australis" redesign).
Developer (or some other clever person) please revise accordingly.
Until it was broken this was the only viable extension of its kind that I knew about..

Restart Firefox

Broken again :-( Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Sadly recent changes in Fx (v20 and above) have caused even the beta version to stop working. The extension still gets 5 stars from me because when it gets fixed (again) I'll be first in the queue re-install it. In the meantime I'll be using "Restartless Restart" by Erik Vold.

Photobucket Uploader

Can't change log-in setting Rated 1 out of 5 stars

@"pidgezero_one" and "scale":
the problem here seems to be that the extension stores photobucket log-in info in the fx profile file "prefs.js" which is a *permanent* record of user preferences for extension behaviour (and therefore completely the wrong place to store anything that a user has not specifically permanently preferred!). Only preferences that a user can change via an extension interface should be stored there.

Deleting "pref.js" is a fix with an obvious downside (deletes all "real" preferences). Editing "prefs.js" to remove all reference to "pb upload/upload pb/pb" has less consequence but might be a bit time consuming.

Note to developer
Where are you mattyk++ ?
You need to fix this absurdity.
Please remove the "not-feature" that stores a single login for ever and a day. It is not required and makes an otherwise excellent extension unusable for the thousands or more who legitimately run multiple PB image storage accounts.

Search by Image for Google

It's OK - but... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

...has a tendency to "discover" multiple re-posts of an image in tumblr.com and hardly ever finds the original image.
I really want to find the owner of an image (in order to seek permission to use) - not just a stream of instances where the owner is not acknowledged.
The site of whoever first put an image on the web must be out there in the Google database somewhere!

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

According to the add-on page for the StumbleUpon toolbar a mere 672,694 people. This makes SU's claim to have millions and millions of Stumblers a tad hollow.
This toolbar still does exactly what it was always designed to do (delivers web content according to preference) but what doesn't do any more is act as a gateway to a wealth of creativity and real social interaction that beat FB et al hands down. Download it and use it by all means but expect nothing more than a click "wow that's a cool (or crap) site" experience.

Screenshot Pimp - Screengrab, Screen Shots, & Save Selection

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

This add-on is a good concept but perhaps suffers from trying to do too much. I, for example, don't need the video download part but cannot find a way to disable that feature or remove the video button from my menu bar. On the other hand I might find "Similar", "Stumble" and "Translate" useful but can find no way to create buttons or menus that would let me (individually or otherwise) use them. What I think would be very useful is a single menu-button (containing all the elements present in the extension's toolbar) that can be placed in the Firefox add-on bar (or - as is the new way of things - any other bar defined by the user!). I have not uninstalled this potentially excellent add-on but I have disabled it pending hoped-for updates that include a single button or a higher level of user customisation (or both). Good luck with the development. {Firefox 4.0b 12pre}
