My Reviews

Video DownloadHelper

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Ever since version 5 came out, I have been unable to download videos from Youtube, VEVO, and every other site that I watch videos on. I've tried just about everything including removing other extensions which might possibly conflict. I upgraded to the most recent one not yet approved by Mozilla and it is no better, plus has a confusing interface on the button bar now with 2 buttons and cascading menus.

When it does say that it downloaded something, the file exists on my hard disk but only the first 5/10/20 seconds of the content is there and the file is truncated on every single video making it less than useful now.

Additionally, many/most videos on youtube will randomly black out suddenly for no reason now and a restart of Firefox is required. I disabled this addon and all the video playback related problems I was having went away.

I've switched to another video downloader that seems to work great without the bugs, complexity or hassles. I've been using Video Download Helper since it first came out many years ago. Sad that the quality of the product has deteriorated but such is the nature of things sometimes I guess.

Adblock Plus

AdBlock betrayal of entire userbase Rated 1 out of 5 stars

The change to allow advertising for money has turned me off from AdBlock Plus. This is a complete betrayal of the entire userbase. I will not recommend this extension to anyone in the future and I await the inevitable fork.

SSL Button

Compatible with Firefox 5 Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This extension appears to work fine with Firefox 5.0, I'm not sure why it hasn't been updated to indicate it's compatible. I used Nightly Tester Tools to disable the extension compatibility check. Editing the install.rdf and manually overriding the version check also works. Please update the extension's version check, this is a handy extension.

bug489729 (Disable detach and tear off tab)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Ever since upgrading to Firefox 3.5, at least once a day I accidentally drag a tab off the tab bar that pops up in its own window. I can't for the life of me see why someone would want that behavior by default, but I did expect it would be configurable. After searching through the Preferences dialog, and then through about:config I ended up finding this extension via google. I can't believe that this so called "feature" can not be disabled in stock Firefox. I sure am glad someone cared enough to solve the problem with an extension though.

It works great! I'm using a developmental build of Tab Mix Plus also, and while some people seem to have had problems with TabMixPus, it seems to be working fine for me. If you're having problems, go to the TabMixPlus forums and look for a newer devel build.
