QuoteCollapse

85% done, but now dead Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This project appears to have been dead for some time now. The mailing list no longer exists, and the archives stopped abruptly in Jan 2012 (http://www.mozdev.org/pipermail/quotecollapse).

It works great, as far as it goes, and it can even be extended to include a very-helpful keybinding to toggle behavior by hacking via keyconfig as suggested here: http://quotecollapse.mozdev.org/customising.html. But the Style hacks are no longer applicable with current versions of Thunderbird, and since the community is dead I suppose we can't expect any updates such as properly integrated keybindings or customizations. What it is is what you get (unless somebody picks up the source and carries this on to completion).

It's annoying that it collapses all quotes completely - it should be tunable for context. But it's better than nothing particularly in long discussions with people who use inline comments or bottom posting without trimming any content.

Pastebin.com

It's all about ads Rated 1 out of 5 stars

You have to remember pastbin's revenue model is to expose you to ads. So of course they won't log you in automatically, etc. Each step you take on their site gives them more opportunity to expose you to their ads, and gain more revenue.

Too bad. I would check out paste.ubuntu.com, which provides a very similar experience to this plugin, but without ads, without a public mode (most people want private anyway), etc. Very simple and sleek.

Unfortunately my needs are different than most. I effectively want a secure cut buffer shared between machines. So I need pastebin with a persistent login, so I can copy/paste text between machines quickly. I don't want the delay and clumsiness involved with e-mailing a URL. I also need encryption, for security. This site doesn't really address these needs, unfortunately. It's too much trouble to keep logging in all the time, and there's no security (other than taking their word for it - which of course isn't security).

Correct Identity

Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Very nice, but it breaks the native feature which filters all of your configured identities from the CC list. It might be nice to allow you to choose which identities you want filtered out from the CC list (or at least filter them all, as tbird does natively). As currently implemented in 1.3.2 it only filters the identity you are using to send the mail.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.3.2).
