Rated 2 out of 5 stars
I was happy with it until I started needing to get PDFs from a secure site. Instead of getting the PDF file, it just gets something with HTML in it. I'm not sure the benefit of it is with the hassle of using it. It's easy enough to do the same things different ways. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (18.104.22.168).
Has potential Rated 3 out of 5 stars
This is a good idea implemented very sloppily. If you read the authors description of what HandyTag is supposed to do, its potential usefulness should be obvious. Unfortunately, it has some very obvious bugs. The three I immediately ran into were:
1) getting tags from del.icio.us (now delicious.com) doesn't work at all.
2) it doesn't parse the string of keywords from a webpage's meta tag correctly. (It uses spaces as delimiters.) For example, the string for www.mozilla.org ("web browser, mozilla, firefox, ...") is broken into the potential tags: "web", "browser", "mozilla", "firefox", and so on, but "web browser" is not suggested.
3) The button to select the tags already used in other bookmarks is labeled "Perso", even though "Personal" would have easily fit.
If the author would just fix the obvious bugs, this could be a very good extension, because it meets a major need. If it could add tags to preexisting bookmarks, and if it were easier to use, it would be great. As it is, it's OK as long as you don't mind using buggy software. To be fair, it doesn't seem to have any dangerous bugs, at least.
Although it didn't affect my rating, I (like someone else) have been unable to download HandyTag here. (Yes, I was logged in.) I eventually found version 1.0 as a zipped file at http://www.brothersoft.com/handytag-161343.html.
