DiggiDig

Compatible with FF7 with two simple changes Rated 5 out of 5 stars

It's quite easy to make DiggiDig compatible with Firefox 7. In the Firefox profile (please see http://kb.mozillazine.org/Profile_folder_-_Firefox if you don't know where to find it), navigate to extensions\diggidig@gmail.com\content\overlay.js and open it in a text editor. In line 58 you'll find the following function:

// return url as string
function diggidigGetURLString() {
var url = document.getElementById("urlbar");
var urlString = url.value;
return urlString;
}

Change it as follows:

// return url as string
function diggidigGetURLString() {
var url = document.getElementById("urlbar");
var urlString = url.value;

// Make compatible with Firefox 7
// where the "http://" is hidden in the address bar (but not other protocols!)
var protocolPosition = urlString.search(/(https?|ftp):\/\//);
if (0 != protocolPosition) {
urlString = "http://" + urlString;
}

return urlString;
}

Then the maxVersion has to be changed in the file extensions\diggidig@gmail.com\install.rdf in the Firefox profile. Open this file in a text editor, too. In line 16 you'll find

<em:maxVersion>4.2.*</em:maxVersion>

Change this to

<em:maxVersion>8.*</em:maxVersion>

or whichever version you find appropriate (since the "major versions" of Firefox are released more often than I get warm meals, I put it to "10.*" myself).

After saving both files and restarting Firefox, DiggiDig should be fully functional again.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.43).
