My Reviews

Location Bar Enhancer

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I installed Location Bar Enhancer quite a while ago and it has been perfect. Now, that's just how I expect my location bar to be. It's the perfect addon... It does exactly what I wanted it to and never gets in my way.

Pop-up Youtube Video

mouseover areas don't work properly Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As other reviewers have stated, this just opens the video in a new tab, but I kind of like that functionality.

My only problem with Pop-up Youtube Video is that the mouseover areas on the top and bottom which allow you to like/dislike a video, share it, and change the location in the video don't seem to work well. I can get there... They seem to appear when I move the mouse cursor out of the window. Then I quickly move back into the window to click on what I wanted.

Another minor problem is that the video doesn't remember its position or play when it's popped out. I have to make a mental note of the position on the YouTube page, pause it, then move the video to that time in the new tab.

Clicking on the video itself doesn't pause/play the video as on the regular YouTube page. I have to click on the pause/play button in the bottom-left corner.

Gmail panel

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great! I don't need to actually visit the gmail site any more.

The size settings don't work exactly right for me. It's consistently bigger. The default settings create a panel that's bigger than my FF window. Set at 50% for both w/h, I get a panel that's about 75% w/h.

Gmail Manager

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It doesn't work. It just asks for the login info repeatedly. It hasn't been updated in 2 years, so I guess it was just abandoned.

InstantFox Quick Search

Reduces Firefox Functionality Rated 1 out of 5 stars

InstantFox replaces Firefox's inbuilt keyword search and the "AwesomeBar" with something that doesn't work quite as well.

The instant results feature is neat, but it works on relatively few sites.

Mozilla's own "Prospector - Instant Preview" ( https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/prospector-instant-preview/ ) works with Firefox functionality instead of replacing it and provides a much better experience.

New Tab JumpStart

Works great on FF 13.0 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Exactly what I was looking for and it works great with FF 13.0

Google Redesigned

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I saw absolutely no change in the appearance, layout, or functionality of Gmail, Google Search, or Google Reader.

YSlow

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Doesn't work.
Firefox 9.0.1
Firebug 1.9.0
YSlow 3.0.4

SmartVideo For YouTube

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This doesn't work.

Even with "Start playing right away" unchecked and "Start playing when buffered" checked, all YouTube videos start playing as soon as I open the page then stutter while playing... just like before I installed the extension.

FireQuery

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I was adding a whole bunch of extra debugging crap into my code to try and figure out how I was clashing with jQuery plugins I was using. This tool basically did that work for me. In the HTML tab, objects have jQuery information appended to the tag. I wish I had found it sooner!

SmartVideo For YouTube

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Doesn't work. Regardless of selected settings, YouTube acts exactly the same as before I installed the addon.

ReloadEvery

Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This addon asks you to try something called "SmartLinks" occasionally. The box pops up after installation and at other unexpected times. It's reminiscent of the old "save.exe" spyware / adware. The "Decline" button on the "ad" is gray in color to give the impression that the option to decline is disabled.

This kind of thing should be against Mozilla's Developer Agreement.

Status-4-Evar

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Has a conflict with Pentadactyl that makes the location bar not work. S4E is redundant with Pentadactyl anyway, so this is still an excellent addon.

Extended Copy Menu

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Works fine with Firefox 4.0b12. I'm using Nightly Tester Tools (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/nightly-tester-tools/) to force add-on compatibility.

Unfortunately, the author's page is dead. There hasn't been any new content since 2007.

Delicious Bookmarks

Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I'm using Firefox 4.0b11. When I enable the Delicious Bookmarks add-on, the location bar suggestions don't show the URL of the suggested site. This occurs even with "Awesomebar integration" disabled.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.1.106).

Favicon Picker 2

FF4.0b11 problems Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I'm using FF4.0b11 and when I enable Favicon Picker 2, I have some unusual behavior.

Sometimes I can't close a tab. When I try to close the tab, the tab's still there. If I click on another tab, I can't go back to the tab that should have been closed, but it's still there in the tab bar.

Sometimes the location bar doesn't work. It might say "Go to a Web Site" or, if I typed a search shortcut to go to a page, it will only show what I typed rather than the URL of the page. When this happens, it also seems to break any animated page loading features like the throbber on the tab or the one added to a toolbar.

It's not consistent, and it's a little bit difficult to reproduce, but it definitely only happens when I have Favicon Picker 2 enabled.

Personal Menu (Personal Firefox Button)

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This is a fantastic must-have add-on. It's much better to have a customizable menu for only the items I actually use rather than having to wander through all of the options in the standard menus.

I would also love to have this functionality in Thunderbird.

Bing

Pointless Rated 1 out of 5 stars

What's the point of installing an addon for Bing or any other search engine. Just add Bing to the list of search engines from the Mycroft Project: http://mycroft.mozdev.org/search-engines.html?name=bing
