Video DownloadHelper

awesome (here's how to get rid of the icon in Tools menu) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Great add-on, been using it for a long time and the developer keeps it up-to-date. Rarely does it not work with a site. Easily the best download add-on I've found.

One thing I don't like is the icon. I access this through the Tools menu and thus had to remove the icon in the chrome/userChrome.css file as follows:

/* Get rid of DownloadHelper icon */
[id*="dwhelper"] > .menu-iconic-left, [id*="dwhelper"] > .menu-iconic-icon {display: none !important;}
#dwhelper-view > menupopup > menuitem > * > * {display: none !important;}
#dwhelper-context > menupopup > menuitem > * > * {display: none !important;}
/* Make everything align properly */
[id*="dwhelper"] {margin-left: 32px;}

Color toggle

Awesome! (updated with INSTALL TIP) Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Let me be the fourth in a row to say "Great job, does exactly what I was looking for." I've been using a Greasemonkey script to do a very similar function, but it's not as good as this.

And let me also be the third to request a keyboard shortcut. I'd also like the ability to disable the status bar icon.

UPDATE: Nathan hooked us up with a keyboard shortcut and option to disable the status bar icon.

Thanks, Nathan!

INSTALL TIP: If you're getting the dreaded "Invalid file hash (possible download corruption) -261" error message, it's due to a known bug in FF3. 2 work-arounds: 1) enable 3rd party cookies or 2) get this add-on at softpedia

Paste Quote

It's always nice when you search for a specific function and find exactly what you're looking for.

It's not in the description, but this add-on also provides a Ctrl+Q shortcut key.

Does its job, but wish the new tab gets focus Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I appreciate this add-on, as I see a bunch of unlinked urls on a forum I frequent. And it's a little quicker than c&p in the address bar.

My only complaint is that opening the url in a new tab doesn't shift focus to the new tab or provide the option to do so. I actually emailed Sandeep, the creator, and he said he could add this feature in a future rev.

Always cool when developers keep improving their add-ons. Thanks, Sandeep!

Context Search

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I agree with everyone else - this is an extremely useful feature that should become FF's standard context search. Great job, Ben!

CookieCuller

Rated 5 out of 5 stars

A clean little add-on. It does it's job very well with no feature bloat.

Interesting that the previous reviewer was frustrated and was going to stick with CCleaner. Well, I use both. The advantage of CookieCuller is choosing specific cookies to keep and delete the rest at browser start-up. That way I do cool things like being logged into amazon to rate and make reviews yet still have to log in for purchases. The best of both worlds! CCleaner is great for other stuff but I only add cookies to its protect list because I have to for CookieCuller to do the job it does so well.

Menu Editor

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Very useful and does its job well. My menus are much cleaner and convenient now.

I've used it for a week and don't see any need to try ME II.

One knit I'm requesting is to get rid of Ctrl-Shift-S shortcut label on the menu item. I use this combo for NoScript (thankfully no problems so far). Plus, I presume most people only would change ME settings very seldomly after editing everything to their liking.

add me to the long list of satisfied customers. Been using TMP for about 3 years now. Very easy to take for granted but definitely missed when it's not around.

AutoPager

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I've been using AP for a week now, and I really like it. If you're a forum user then it really makes reading long threads more convenient. I also use it for other sites too, as there are a ton of existing filters in the online databases (just like adblock plus filtersets) and making your own is fairly straightforward.

I can't give it 5* just yet because the performance is a little herky-jerky at times. But Wind is working hard on it and continues to improve it. Good job, Wind!

I'll also suggest another add-on that works well with AP: MAF (Mozilla Archive Format). MAF saves an entire webpage (html, pics, etc) as a zip file that can be opened directly by firefox. The really cool thing is that once AP opens several pages for you and you want to archive it then MAF saves all of them. Plus you can save multiple tabs in a single file. I've been using it for several years and it's much better than MHTs.

Read Easily

HOW TO MAKE IT WORK IN FIREFOX 3 Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I really liked having Ctrl+Shift+Z for fast page style toggling. So I was disappointed when this didn't get upgraded for Firefox 3. But just now I learned how to get it to work in FF3.

Here's how:

1) install the add-on. A nice guide is at http://www.palaestratraining.com/blog/2008/07/firefox-3-make-older-add-ons-to-work/

But in case the link is down, here's how to do it: You'll notice that the "Add to Firefox" button is grayed out. But below it click on "See All Versions". Now right click on the "Add to Firefox" button for version 1.0.3 and choose "Save link as" to download the .xpi file. This file is basically a zip archive, so use a tool like 7-zip or Winrar to open the xpi archive. You need to modify one variable in the install.rdf file - maxVersion - which is currently set to 2.0.0. Change it to 4.0.0 or higher. Then save the new install.rdf and import the modified xpi into FF3 with File->Open. This will now install the add-on, since the maxVersion is okay with FF.

If everything works fine now, you're done. But the Ctrl+Shift+Z shortcut didn't work for me right away. So I had to do another step:

2) figure out which function is already using Ctrl+Shift+Z and replace it with Read Easily. The way I did it was with another add-on called Keyconfig (located here: http://forums.mozillazine.org/viewtopic.php?t=72994). It allows you to modify all keyboard shortcuts (both built-in FF and add-ons), so I sorted by shortcut and it had the Ctrl+Shift+Z conflict highlighted. Then I disabled the other function and now Read Easily works perfectly, just like it did in FF 1&2.

This was the only thing I missed from FF2 and now I have it again!

Mozilla Archive Format, with MHT and Faithful Save

Once you go MAF, you won't go back Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I've been using MAF for several years, beginning with FF 1.5, and it's much better than any other method of saving websites, including MHTs. MAFF has two huge advantages: save multiple tabs in one file and smaller file size compared to MHT for the exact same content.

Kudos to Paolo for updating it for Firefox 3. He's also made other improvements, and it now works better than ever.

I recently started to use the AutoPager add-on, which loads multiple pages in a single window (such as multiple pages of a forum). MAF is fully compatible with it, so you can open a long thread full of pics in a single tab and save everything in MAF as one file. Plus, I can save several tabs of these threads all in one file. Very nice!
