I love digging tools related with reference management, academic web research, and organisation. Firefox is an indispensable tool for scholarly studies, with such plethora of add-ons (-:
This is a very neat extension packed with features and best of its kind, as there has been several Firefox add-ons through the years that provided visual sort of bookmarking, none were such functional. The preview release even records history, which is a feature I have been wishing for -great! There are a couple of issues/requests I wish the developer can add, if he would like:
* The keywords from webpages are saved as Firefox keyword. I wish there were an option to save web-page keywords as Firefox 'Tags', as webpage keywords functionality is more like Firefox Tags (i.e. mostly for categorisation), whereas Firefox keywords are mostly meant for a url shortcut to launch webpages.
* An option to create missing viewmarks at once, besides the current 'on-the-go' approach.
Thanks to the developer, and I believe this add-on will be a five star in a short time once the developer version comes out of beta.
This is an excellent reinstatement of the open places in tabs add-on functionality which is long gone. It provides one click in-tab functionality to open a bunch of windows, including about:config, downloads, and most importantly, library. Thanks to the developer!
I have been happily using Zutilo since its developmental versions and I am happy to see it made its way through the Firefox AMO, congratulations! Zutilo brings much needed utilities to Zotero, as it allows copying tags&creators information and especially relating items in a heartbeat. The ability to modify attachment paths could be a lifesaver when needed. One wish: would it be possible have an option to keep existing item relations when relating items with Zutilo? That would be much appreciated, as currently Zutilo replaces existing relations with the new ones. Kudos for all the hard work.
::Re: I have updated and tested Zutilo and the existing relations are kept now. Thank you for the fastest bug fix I have ever experienced in my personal app-test history:))
This is an excellent add-on, bringing in unlimited possibilities. It can be used for all sorts of clippings, and it brings value to other add-ons in the Firefox universe. For instance you can select some text and save it as a Zotero or Scrapbook note, all source info retained without the need to save the entire page. You can even format it to copy in other formats such as bibtex, ris, etc. with a few tweaks, and paste whatever you have copied into any file to have a quick scrapbook. It is so extensible and very well conceived and as such, an indispensable tool I have only recently discovered. I am still exploring its possibilities and trying templates, brilliant! Thanks very very much to the developer. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.1.0).
This is probably one of the most useful and beautiful add-ons in the Firefox add-on universe. It is incredibly convenient for anything colour related, be it picking up colour values or setting up a colour database. A Swiss-knife of colours: all colour tools are at our hand in a beautiful and powerful interface. I hope some if not all its capabilities and rationale passes to new web developer tools line of Firefox. Kudos to the developer. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5.1).
edit: This became a five star add-on with all reasons for being four (and a half:)) star being fixed and improved with version 0.9. USM is the new Stylish: Thanks a lot to the developer:)
This is a nice addon and a lightweight alternative to Stylish. Not quite there yet, but keeps getting better, very promising. Thank you:)
In the latest version (v.0.8), the chevron of the toolbar icon (the little triangle to display options) is changed and put under the icon -- it was on the side of the icon. Please bring the old look back -chevron to the side- as the chevron adds an unnecessary height to the add-on toolbar (aka status bar) and also looks really bad - icon not being in line with the other icons, etc. Also, the toolbar icon constantly resets its location after firefox restarts.
Thanks again :)
Reply to the developer:
Dear Developer, with your continuous support you are already a 5+ star developer :) the four stars were only for the extension as of v. 0.8, mainly due to the interface issues and as you pointed out aptly, better integration with userstyles.org - I find this add-on really promising and a better future replacement for stylish, as it seems it is aspiring to be as such, based on your comments. As it is, ths add-on is already very useful, and promise 5 stars once this ui issue is fixed (this is not an accessibility issue though, I love to see the addons I like and that have nice icons on the toolbar if I can). For the add-on toolbar issue, however, I think it is more likely to be caused by one of your other excellent add-ons (location bar enhancer), sorry for confusing it here - I made a mention here now just FYI.
Excellent addition to ScrapBook in both Firefox and SeaMonkey. Pretty obvious explanation of what it does and works as advertised. Thanks to the developer.
This add-on is excellent and keeps getting better with every release. It's been one of the first extensions I install on Firefox.- I use FireGestures add-on (https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/6366/) for mouse gestures. When I tile tabs, and use "Open in link background" action (left-down mouse gesture on the link) in a tiled tab, that tab is extended; as if I had pressed F2. [edit: I just discovered that the same thing occurs when you Ctrl+Click on a link inside a tiled tab to open the link in background] Just for developer's info.
Thanks a lot again for this great add-on! [edit2: the issue is gone forever:) I love Tile Tabs, thank you developer:))]
works as advertised:) thank youThis review is for a previous version of the add-on (2.8.1).
This is an excellent add-on, and it gets better and better with every new release. I love how it works with e-book catalogues, especially on feedbooks, displaying all covers, metadata, etc. in a beautiful interface. I also like how it allows to add these books to your own library. And it is really excellent to be able to produce ebooks from rss feeds, this is genius! What would be also nice is to be able to add bookmarks (and maybe annotations - pleease:) to the ebooks.
Thanks very much to the developer.. This is really a very essential tool for anyone else who likes reading.
Excellent add-on, as I've posted earlier; however, the latest update to v. 3.0 breaks Zotero, although v. 2.11 works fine as ever. I hope TileTabs works well with Zotero again. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (3.0). This user has other reviews of this add-on.
This is an excellent add-on, and the best of its kind for my purposes. Lighter on resources than Split Browser (now Fox Splitter) and more featureful compared to SplitPannel. It works with Zotero, as opposed to Split Browser, which is excellent. The interface is also very neat and not getting in your way when tiling the tabs; except for the very crowded context menu, which I hope can be trimmed down a bit (at least optionally) in some future version. The development pace of the add-on is also very fast and promising, with new features in most releases. So this is very close - if not- my dream tab tiler add-on, thanks to the developer..
ps. For info, there were two add-ons that conflicted with Tile Tabs in my configuration: Tiny Menu and MultiSideBar; which led to blank tabs. I hope they can all work together seamlessly in future:)
Very intelligent and excellent tool to learn and excercise languages. Works swiftly in the Alpheios project page, and seems very promising. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.0beta2.2642.20100221).
This is an excellent text formatting toolbar works for numerous other purposes besides its dedicated aim -making posting formatted texts easier in forums, etc.:
-I found it very useful for taking rich format notes in the Note tool of ScrapBook add-on
- Similarly it also works with other notetaking add-ons, e.g. Quicknote
I wish this fantastic little tool can involve some more text formats such as MultiMarkDown, Textile, etc., (and preferably, ability to create and export notes itself, someday maybe).
Thanks to the developer..
This is a very powerful add-on, especially for using side-by-sider search and the like. I used to use this mainly for research. However, as other researchers like me who uze the Zotero add-on, Split Browser does not allow the Zotero pane to open (the lower pane): though it doesn't have any problems with other addons using sidebars (such as ScrapBook, Wired-Marker, etc.)
Would it be too much to ask for a revision of this wonderful add-on to be compatible with Zotero? I'd be glad to use them both, however, I have to prefer one over another (in this case Zotero over Split Browser) and I'd be delighted to use them both in my web research sessions. Thanks.
As mentioned in a number of posts here including my own (and jonah_ro's:), ScrapBook keyboard shortcuts clash with Brief add-on [alt+K] and Firefox's own error console [ctrl+shift+J]. I recently came accross another powerful add-on, keyconfig, which lets you change keyboard shortcut settings for firefox - at least until a solution comes from ScrapBook development:
This add-on worked seamlessly with my ff 3.5.3 (3.5.4 may require maxversion override)
@jonah_ro I totally agree with the need, indeed for an integrated export as webarchive option for ScrapBook; tis would make it a whole
ps.: Apologies for using the review system like a forum page, but this is the only platform I know of to discuss requests and tweaks for this excellent add-on.
This beloved add-on becomes indispensable as one uses it and thanks, again to the developer. I would love to see "integrated search" plugin for scrapbook updated (http://amb.vis.ne.jp/mozilla/scrapbook/addons.php?lang=en#Integrated)
I also wish we could save searches (a la iTunes), which would work as smart folders.
Thanks for this add-on, again:)
There is a temporary solution -although not very recommendable- to make autosave plugin work for you.
You can download the Auto Save plugin (without installing), open the xpi archive (with 7zip or similar software) and bump the maxversion (3.0.*) to 3.5.* (3.5.*) in the install.rdf file. Save the updated file in the archive and close; and install it through the regular Firefox add-ons window (just drag and drop the updated xpi file on to the add-ons window). I did this for a temporary workaround, and works for now, but as I said this is not very much recommended.
@ jonah_ro :
You can save a scrapbooked file as mht or maff with either of these plugins (install them and right-click on any file in the ScrapBook sidebar):
Mozilla Archive Format:
ScrapBook MAF Creator:
There are also a number of scrapbook addons in the firefox add-ons pages, just search for it, if you like.
Excellent add-on, very much helpful on all sorts of research and archive purposes on the web. As pointed out in several comments, it would be very nice to have:
- a duplicate detection mechanism
- another keyboard shortcut for bookmarking as firefox uses Ctrl+Shift+J
- a way to compress the archive? (or is there already one? as scrapbook has too many functions:)
- a way to export to firefox bookmarks?
Thanks to the developer, this is one of my favourite extensions, and a reason to make firefox indispensable.
Very nice and very well executed add-on. It is really simple to use and its simplicity doesn't mean it lacks features; on the contrary. This little clock has lots of alarm features with a very well executed interface and a bunch of customizable options. Very much recommended, kudos to the developer(s):)This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.5).
Very good add-on, however its keybord shortcuts clashes with Scrapbook's [i.e. Ctrl+Shift+l] and I wish there was a way to change either one's keyboard shortcuts. Otherwise great add-on and works very diligently. This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.2.3).
