Rated 5 out of 5 stars 4,303 reviews

18,955,577 users

Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more.

Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).
Collector's Note Absolutely necessary. I've had next to no pop-ups thanks to this.

DownThemAll! by Nils Maier, Federico Parodi, others

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 1,403 reviews

1,587,661 users

The first and only download manager/accelerator built inside Firefox!
Collector's Note Works on most sites. Downloads (usually) much faster than a regular download and with most sites has support for pause and resume. This also comes in handy if your connection get's reset.

NoScript Security Suite by Giorgio Maone

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 1,320 reviews

2,228,391 users

The best security you can get in a web browser!
Allow active content to run only from sites you trust, and protect yourself against XSS and Clickjacking attacks.
Collector's Note I recently discovered this one (written as of 10/07/2010) and was advised to get it because it blocks most scripts. Thus far it's been a bit annoying because I have to tell it to allow all my favorite sites (though I could probably tell it to just accept things in bookmarks I don't want to take that risk as I'll sometimes bookmark things for later) but, it is a good defense against certain scripts that can bypass Browser and Firewall security and infect you just because you went to an infected site.

Web of Trust - WOT by WOT Services

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 1,339 reviews

1,264,176 users

Find out which websites you can trust. WOT adds intuitive traffic light-style icons next to search results and URLs to help you make informed decisions about whether to visit a site or not.
Collector's Note Web of Trust. Quite simply if enough people with this add-on marks a site as bad it will block the site and warn me. Sometimes people are wrong but, usually if a large group of people say a site is Spam or Virus riddled it's good to avoid said site.

User Agent Switcher by chrispederick

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 198 reviews

449,182 users

The User Agent Switcher extension adds a menu and a toolbar button to switch the user agent of a browser.
Collector's Note I don't have to use this one as much but, when sites say they'll work with just Internet Explorer (and I know there's no reason they can't work with Firefox) I just make myself look like IE and all of the sudden I can use the site.

Tab Mix Plus by onemen, Gary Reyes

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 2,178 reviews

1,119,923 users

Tab Mix Plus enhances Firefox's tab browsing capabilities. It includes such features as duplicating tabs, controlling tab focus, tab clicking options, undo closed tabs and windows, plus much more. It also includes a full-featured session manager.
Collector's Note I play with the settings this offers quite a bit. It has it's own session manager that far surpasses the built in one and it can add all sorts of tab features like show loading progress on the tabs and if I click a link in a search engine I can have it open in a new tab. I can also make a lot of links that would try to open in a new Window open in a tab instead (ones that the normal tab manager misses).

FastestFox - Browse Faster by yongqli

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 385 reviews

257,829 users

Save time by speeding up repetitive tasks. Get faster, parallelized downloads, see definitions, auto-load the next page, improve searching, and more. FastestFox will dramatically enhance your productivity!
Collector's Note I use this add-on just because it has an nice page-loading feature. If you scroll to the bottom of a page it tries to load the next one, perfect for multi-page forums and list.

Add to Search Bar by Dr. Evil

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 519 reviews

105,156 users

Make any pages' search functionality available in the Search Bar (or "search box")...
Collector's Note This is a functionality found in Opera that I simply had to have in my Firefox, quite simply find a Search site you like, right click in the search box->add to search bar. It ask a couple of questions and bam you have a new easy to use search engine.

Download Statusbar by C.J.

Experimental

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 1,372 reviews

View and manage downloads from a tidy statusbar - without the download window getting in the way of your web browsing.

Thanks Tekzilla for your awesome review! Click here to see their video: http://youtu.be/BUDqWrJ-Vao
Collector's Note Though I still have DownThemAll pop-up a different window for small downloads or downloads that may not work with DownThemAll this makes it much easier to manage (so long as you don't download 20 things without clearing the bar).

MR Tech Toolkit by mrtech

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 133 reviews

110,573 users

(Formerly Local Install) The primary goal of this extension is to provide the tools needed to install and manage extensions and themes locally and tons of other features.

Note: With Toolkit 6.0 Auto Archiving is fully working in Firefox 2.0 and temp...
Collector's Note This add-on adds some nice Add-on backup methods and makes it easier to access the innards of Firefox. Not for Amateurs.

translator (fixed) by David Leudolph

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 22 reviews

The Development of this add-on is abandoned.
Collector's Note For a tech junkie like me it's not so uncommon to find sites written entirely in German or even Japanese. A translator is the perfect solution. Though I honestly don't like this one as much as the one I originally had (my original translator could automatically detect language, this one can't) it's still a valuable asset.
