Greasemonkey by Anthony Lieuallen, Aaron Boodman, others

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 867 reviews

1,623,557 users

Customize the way a web page displays or behaves, by using small bits of JavaScript.
Collector's Note Greasemonkey allows Greasemonkey scripts to run. A Greasemonkey script is like a mini-addon. Treat a Greasemonkey script like an .exe in the sense that you should only install scripts from developers you trust. Much like add-ons.

Stylish by Jason Barnabe

Restyle the web with Stylish, a user styles manager. Stylish lets you easily install themes and skins for Google, Facebook, YouTube, Orkut, and many, many other sites. You can even customize Firefox and other programs themselves.
Collector's Note has been down for a few weeks, I hope it comes back up soon making this useful again. I'll put in a new comment then.

Evernote Web Clipper by Evernote

Rated 3 out of 5 stars 566 reviews

436,286 users

Use this extension to save things you see on the web into your Evernote account. It provides a toolbar button and context menu to add an article, selection, URL or an entire page.

Pocket by Read It Later, Inc

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 920 reviews

292,950 users

When you find something on the web that you want to view later, put it in Pocket. It automatically syncs to your phone, tablet or computer so you can view it at any time, even without an internet connection.
Collector's Note If you have ever wondered how to edit tags to Read It Later items if you forget to when you first mark it to be read later, get this add-on. It also makes it easy to publish links to other locations as well, such as Delicious and Facebook.

FEBE by Chuck_Baker

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 551 reviews

154,878 users

FEBE (Firefox Environment Backup Extension) allows you to quickly and easily backup your Firefox extensions. In fact, it goes beyond just backing up -- It will actually rebuild your extensions individually into installable .xpi files.
Collector's Note If you get this, be sure to get CLEO. Together these programs let you save your extensions into a single xpi that makes it easy for anyone to install all of your extensions in one go. I have more to say in my CLEO comment.

Feedly - Beyond Google Reader by feedly

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 3,236 reviews

168,510 users

A productive way to organize, read and share the content of your favorite feeds, blogs and news sites. Feedly offers a seamless transition from Google Reader.
Collector's Note This is great if you have more RSS feeds in Google Reader than you know what to do with. Instead of trying to read every article of every feed, you can "create your own newspaper" in the words of a venerable old web site from the Netscape 2 era, or rather, Feedly creates it for you. When you save or mark a favorite, the changes carry over to Google Reader. Feedly gives you several different views of your Google Reader feeds, you are bound to find at least a few useful. Feedly will even pop-up articles relevant to the page you are currently viewing (I know you are skeptical because you remember old Internet Explorer 4 era junk like Alexa Toolbar, but Feedly bases it on actual page content, not the domain). Feedly is highly configurable, but you don't have to configure it all to get benefits from it. It also integrates Twitter and Friendfeed by default if you are into that sort of thing, as well as Youtube and Delicious.

CacheViewer by benki

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 195 reviews

37,466 users

This extenion is GUI Front-end of "about:cache"...
Collector's Note I don't use CacheViewer everyday, but say you are on a particularly hard-to-navigate web site looking for printable coloring pages for your kids. It may be better to just grab those pictures from the browser cache, which is what this add-on allows you to do easily.

Greasefire by Steve Krulewitz, Erik Vold

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 159 reviews

23,419 users

Automatically find user scripts on (requires Greasemonkey or Scriptish)
Collector's Note Greasefire works in conjunction with Greasemonkey to quickly let you find Greasemonkey scripts that work on the page you are on.

Multiple Tab Handler by Piro (piro_or)

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 141 reviews

24,790 users

Provides feature to close multiple tabs.
Collector's Note This does a lot more than just closing multiple tabs. Ever wanted to use Ctrl-Click or Shift-Click to select multiple tabs? With Multiple Tab Handler, after selecting multiple tabs, you can do things like closing the other tabs, saving the selected tabs to a bookmark folder, or copying the URLs of the tabs. Extremely configurable.

Linkification by y5

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 274 reviews

36,642 users

Converts text links into genuine, clickable links...
Collector's Note The most common use for Linkification is for web pages that show a URL for another site but for some reason, they neglected to make it into a link. Linkification makes it clickable.

Better Gmail 2 by Gina Trapani

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 513 reviews

24,846 users

Add useful extra features to Gmail, like hierarchical labels, an unread message icon on your browser tab, file attachment icons, and more.
Collector's Note Although it shows the little Greasemonkey icon, Greasemonkey is not required for Better Gmail 2. Gina Trapani of Lifehacker has bunched up a bunch of scripts into a single configurable add-on that gives some subtle tweaks to the Gmail interface. I am currently not using this and I don't seem to be missing it too much. I will reevaluate it soon.

CLEO by Chuck_Baker

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 39 reviews

11,434 users

CLEO (Compact Library Extension Organizer) is a Firefox extension that works with FEBE* to package any number of extensions/themes into a single, installable .xpi file.
Collector's Note If you get this, be sure to get FEBE. CLEO and FEBE together are the real add-on collector. They consolidate a group of extensions into a single .xpi. When you install it, all the extensions appear separately as if you had installed them one-by-one. An impressive trick, a lot cleaner than the collections model here where people have to install an add-on to install your add-ons. Although as you can tell, I find the Firefox Collections feature useful as well.

Linky by gemal

Rated 4 out of 5 stars 101 reviews

17,473 users

Linky will increase your power to handle links. ...
Collector's Note This is one of those extensions that is utterly useless up until the day you need it! You can among other things open up a whole lot of links selected from a web page at once. When you use this, it is handy to have multiple rows of tabs enabled. (I use Tab Mix Plus for this but there are a lot of other ways, too.)

Drag & DropZones by Captain Caveman, Andy Portmen

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 111 reviews

17,111 users

Get rid of that clumsy context menu, and search the web using up to 100 stylish Drag & DropZones
Collector's Note Drag and drop selected text to any searchbar based search engine, not just the default one.

1 Click Weather for Firefox by AST, Inc

Rated 3 out of 5 stars 5 reviews

254 weekly downloads

Get your weather forecast quickly by entering your ZIP code. 1 Click Weather gives weather forecasts without all the ads. Simple and easy weather information that's - 1 Click Weather.
Collector's Note This is very similar to ForecastFox, but the icons make it easier to use. This uses The Weather Channel instead of Accuweather. I think the forecasts are probably similar in accuracy. It does consume a lot of status bar space, but the weather alerts are really handy if you otherwise don't pay too much attention to the weather forecast.
