Adblock Plus by Wladimir Palant

Rated 5 out of 5 stars 4,801 reviews

Blocks annoying video ads on YouTube, Facebook ads, banners and much more.

Adblock Plus blocks all annoying ads, and supports websites by not blocking unobtrusive ads by default (configurable).
Collector's Note Without Adblock Plus I wouldn't be able to listen to a song on MySpace or browse around some of the mainstream websites due to their highly annoying use of advertisements plastered all over the place. This makes browsing those websites at least bearable.

The first and only download manager/accelerator built inside Firefox!
Collector's Note Makes downloading files a breeze by selecting multiple links to files on a website using filters. This way you can easily select all pdf's on a page and download them for future reference.

Restyle the web with Stylish, a user styles manager. Stylish lets you easily install themes and skins for Google, Facebook, YouTube, Tumblr, and many, many other sites. You can even customize Firefox and other programs themselves.
Collector's Note I tend to read a lot of reference material and manuals written by mostly very smart folks. Most of it is enlightening on an intellectual level, but aesthetically it usually is an eye sore. Stylish allows me to make the information more pleasant to the eyes by giving me the ability to create my own stylesheets and apply them to sites.

Encrypt the web! HTTPS Everywhere is a Firefox extension to protect your communications by enabling HTTPS encryption automatically on sites that are known to support it, even when you type URLs or follow links that omit the https: prefix.
Collector's Note Try to always use HTTPS. This plugin should become obsolete when http2 becomes the standard

Vim-style keyboard shortcuts for browsing and navigation, significantly reducing the use of the mouse.
Collector's Note Replaced Vimperator for me. Combines nicely with Firefox
