People who leave useless or obnoxious comments usually can't be bothered to type properly. YouTube Comment Snob takes advantage of this, and simple settings let you choose what gets blocked. It's quick, easy, and the best solution for comment blocking I've ever seen.
Thank you, Christopher!
Mr. Finke, you have done a great service for this wonderful Internet of ours. This extension has served as a reprieve from my otherwise hopeless spiral downward into frustration-induced insanity.
I was so tired of comments by the ignorant, prejudiced, hate mongering, 10-year-old-seeming dip!@#s who obviously have no life and flock to YouTube to spread their disease, that I started avoiding the site all together. Despite my best attempts to ignore the comments I always seemed to glance down, get pulled in to reading them, and be delighted with the wonderful reflection of humanity that it is. With this plug-in I can set the "hide comments with _ or more spelling errors" to zero, which will hide all comments automatically. Now I have to actually hit the "show" link if I want to read anything, which is a temptation I can resist. Cool.
Totally amazing. The worst part of youtube is the racist, vulgar morons littering the comments. Thank you to creator of this!
Next we need a "Firefox Add-ons comment snob".
I really like that add-on! Saved me the time of scrolling down - more than once!
Best add-on ever!! Set the options to filter out zero spelling errors and it's all gone, don't have to worry about a wondering eye catching another moronic comment!!
No control over the spelling feature. The profanity filer failed to work for many words.
Great! Now I just need something like this for Facebook.
Impressive add-on, but even more impressive are the sensible comments left here by other users.
Someone should form some kind of social network for the people who have this installed.
Excellent. But I'm just wondering if there's a chance you could make an add on that just completely removes all comments no matter what from youtube. I don't know much (read: nothing) about programming but it doesn't seem like it would that big of an alteration.
I really like this add-on, but I have one complaint. Not all videos on Youtube are in English, and while you can change the default language, you can't have more than one at once. So, while it works wonderfully for English-only vids, if I want to see any comments on a Norwegian video, for example, I have to click on the 'show' button everytime.
It's a small complaint, because otherwise, this is a great add-on, helps to get rid of all the trash on the toobs.
While I like this add-on already, I think it's missing one more annoying comment type that ought to be filtered somehow: People Who Capitalize Every Word In Their Comment So People Will Look.
Otherwise, no obvious flaws.
Thank you for saving my sanity! I would have emphasized my joy with all caps, but I figure that would be really ironic.
I love this feature. I always hated reading the dumb comments on Youtube, and now I don't have to look at them.
I would love to have this for the entire internet.
Yes, there are still problems with it and yes, wouldn't it be nice if this worked on other sites, but these are minor quibbles for an otherwise BRILLIANT add-on which will once again allow you to let your eyes fall upon the comment box in YouTube without being confronted by the keyboard-wielding dregs of the intertubes.
I installed it, went to a random video and scrolled down to discover half the comments were gone for offenses such as "4 misspellings," "excessive punctuation," etc. Pure glee.
I would like to do more promotion of this add-on. But first, I'd like to make a couple suggestions. One: profanity settings could be adjustable. The user could define what is profanity. The user cold avoid a specific set of comments this way. Two: the spelling mistake feature could be adjustable - certain words could be added. Three: foreign languages would not count as spelling mistakes. Currently all my Chinese entries are hidden because they are counted as mistaken spelling under US-English dictionary. But for the current program, a thousand thanks to the developer. This is truly a Godsend.
Nice idea, but i agree with the other guy. It would block out over half of Youtube if you made it that it would block comments with any spelling mistake or incorrect punctuation, but there is one problem, the Youtube spelling check (or Mozilla, Im not completely sure) wouldnt be able to pick up some people names or website names, but great idea anyway
Nice one man! But the problem is it's blocking 75% of all the comments, so it would be much better if it just removed them altogether and showed just the valid ones.
Finally a headache-free Youtube!
I've been waiting for something to make using Youtube just a wee bit less like snorkeling in a septic tank. Don't worry about being a nerd - seeing as you're already searching add-ons for a rebel browser - just enjoy Youtube as a slightly less obnoxious experience.
Your add on should be released as a beta; with add on enabled, firefox 2 crash on youtube.Massive memory leak for FF2. Even disabling the add-on won't do it. I assumed FF3
was more efficient, so I upgraded, but EVEN on FF3
content rich pages especially YOUTUBE lol load cruddy. I like this add on and it great, but it keeps on laggeng up my 256 MB ram pc.:'P Nice work mate! Ren, more of a techie than your average 9 year old.☺
I don't spend much time on YouTube - what I would like to see would be an expansion of this extension to include other sites.
Great addon! However, I would like to suggest the addition of multiple parallel dictionary support (I deal with a lot of multilingual people on the same page, so it sometimes hides things that are correct in one language, but not the other!).
I must say, this is perhaps my favorite add-on, ever.
However, the amount of memory and CPU it uses when checking the comments makes it, unfortunately, almost unusable.
On videos with hundreds of comments, I don't think I've ever been able to load the page even once without firefox crashing.
Fix this though (if there's anything that can be done), and you're a hero.
