WOT gone wrong on me Rated 1 out of 5 stars

It didn't exactly work out for me. I tried it the first time on the Google search. The entire list of sites had the green letter "O". I was surprised that one particular site also had a green colored O next to it, because last time I went on the same site, the anti spy ware from Norton popped up. So I clicked on the link because I thought if WOT approved of the site, it would be okay to click on it

Shortly after that, the same fake Norton anti spy ware ad popped up like last time and THEN the 'O' in the tool bar became red

Couldn't it have done that before I went into the site? o__O

Re: Hijacked sites

What you're describing is a hijacked website, which redirects you to a malware site when entered through a Google search (but not when entered directly). If you want WOT to stop your browser from opening the malware site when it's redirected there, you can enable blocking from WOT settings. You should also rate the hijacked site. Just to be clear, Norton also warns you only when opening the malware site, not when you open the hijacked site.

This add-on is a fantastic example of how well user collaboration can work. How some are complaining about false positives I don't understand. WOT uses a meritocracy like system, and so you gain and lose trust. The first website you rate will have no effect. The more websites you rate, the more your rating counts in the future. Even if you gain trust, if you try rating oh say, 20 websites unsafe that are really safe, if people disagree with 9 of your ratings, your other 11 will have little to no effect, since you have then lost reliability.
This ingenius system is what makes WOT so amazing, and it is in fact my favorite add-on.
Go WOT

People are rating sites in this plug in not according to if it's dangerous or not but if it's a good website or not

sorry - that's not what this is about
a website which has a poor designing or lack of contents doesn't mean it can hurt your computer

Re: Trust, not just safety

Which websites, for example? Users rate the site's trustworthiness, not just the safety. A site can be perfectly safe to visit, but users may still not trust it.

If you believe a site has been incorrectly rated, you should rate the site yourself. You can also report an incorrect rating here:

Konflikt mit XPL Scanner Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Eigentlich eine gute Idee, aber WOT schaltet XPL-Scanner aus. (XPL-Scanner wurde mit SystemSuite 9 Software miteinstalliert.) Ich finde es schade, dass man nicht beides benutzen kann....

Great idea. Unfortunately the creators do NOT want to hear criticisms of their pet project. I pointed out that users were downrating websites as dangerous because there were download links on them and because they did not like the design. These should NOT be criteria for danger. They did not like me pointing this out and how alarmed I was when one of my sites was rated as dangerous on the poor criteria mentioned previously. They cut off my access to their site. I didn't lose my cool, just pointed out how dangerous a product can be if competing sites can downrate another simply due to the competition. I hope they mature enough to realize that constructive criticism is their best friend. Other sites felt the same.

Dear Charles

You were banned from our website, because you started attacking other users on the forum. All your emails and forum postings have been archived. While we believe they are wonderful examples of "losing your cool", they hardly constitute constructive criticism. If you would like to refresh your memory, we'd be happy to forward them back to you or publish them in a forum of your choice.

Essential security tool. Rated 5 out of 5 stars

This, with McAfee site advisor, are essential to my computer security defense system. This add-on shows the ratings of sites in order to prevent you from going to sites that have spyware etc. . It will even stop and question you if you have already clicked on the link.

It's pretty helpful but since it is based on user reviews, you might want to take it's ratings with a grain of salt sometimes.

Great add-on. 20 thumbs up. I've been using it for months now with no problems, and it has alerted me to problem sites with reports of malware/spyware I'd have never suspected. Much thanks to the developer for this excellent tool.
