WOT is great! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I have told so many people they must have it and emailed the link (at least 20) and so far, everyone who has downloaded it to IE or Firefox has LOVED it. If you are like me and like to just go everywhere and chk sites out...You must have WOT. It will warn you or give the "green light" to any link you might click... I have had attacks now about 4-5 times and the 1st thing that gets turned off is WOT so watch and make sure it's on your toolbar always... I would like to know what exactly needs to be done to lock it thereor to simply put it back without re-downloading it when that happens...if you could tell me. Thanks!

I don't surf without it Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I used to have McAfee SiteAdvisor, but had to uninstall it when I switched my anti-virus to Kaspersky.

I have this add-on set to show me a warning screen if I'm about to enter a known dangerous site, and the warnings next to search results are very helpful, as it helps narrow down which sites I should visit.

There are a few drawbacks with the rating system, i.e. all blogspot.com sites are given a warning because some blogspot users might have abused the service.

Still I would rather be slightly inconvenienced with having to click one extra time to enter some sites than to happen on a site with spyware/adware/trojans/etc.

Re: Warnings

Blogspot.com seems to have a good reputation, so its new unrated subdomains shouldn't cause a warning, at least not in the recommended default configuration.

Great - but problems Rated 4 out of 5 stars

This addon is really great! I love it. Maby you could add the option to add the icon to the statusbar at the bottom.

But there is one Problem:
It doesn't work perfectly with Google-Preview. With both plugins activated WOT always shows one icon before the search-result and one behind it. Looks bad, soo many icons!
THE REST IS PERFECT!

This product seemed fantastic until I realized it is an agenda driven managed tool. It rated most of my conservative web sites as bad or hateful. I should have known it was too good to be true. I immediately uninstalled. I don't need another opinion being stuck in my face. If I needed that I would watch the countless TV programs or read the countless newspapers with that agenda.

Re: Agendas

Our reputations are determined by users. Sometimes other people may disagree with you about which sites can be trusted, but you can always influence reputations by rating the sites yourself.

Incredibly useful. You know when you go spell a website name wrong and then you end up at some "sketchy and unsafe" website? It catches that very readily. I am glad for the add on and have put it on ALL the computers we own. Thanks!

A good concept, but some major concerns Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I thought this would be great, but after learning more, I have several problems with it.

As many other reviews have pointed out, the rating system results in a lot of sites you know are safe to be marked as unsafe. The reply was to rate it yourself, and disable the warning if you don't want to see it again.

But that defeats the purpose of the program. Sure, I can help fix the sites I know are rated wrongly, but I installed this so that I would have reliable information on sites I do NOT know.

Now some people will say it is better safe than sorry, which can be true. So you have to weigh the advantages and disadvantages. Some of the unsafe flags will be legitimate, which is good; the ones that aren't, well, you'll just miss out on those sites... unless you ignore the warning; but if you do that, why did you bother downloading this in the first place?

I am worried by all the comments that say "this saved me"... I think a LOT of people believe that every flagged site is actually a risk. That's what I thought until I read the reviews. People who believe this and don't happen to come across a site they know for certain shouldn't be flagged... will have some problems. They will be limited to sites that the other users like... if a perfectly safe site is offensive, it very well may be marked as dangerous. Not good for writing papers, certainly.

I read that the ratings are based not only on the users input, but also from information from spam blacklists and other trusted sources. I would love to be able to see ratings based only on those trusted sources. The sneaky sites are the most dangerous, and professionals/experts will be able to identify hidden threats much more accurately than the common surfer.

Bottom line: my main concern is actually that people are taking these colored symbols as gospel. As long as you are aware of how this works, this might be a good addon for you. The concept is certainly a good one, but clearly the current system leaves something to be desired. I plan to help a little before I switch; there is a site that scammed me, and I have since discovered it to scam people regularly, but it is not flagged at all.

Re: Concerns

Everyone sometimes disagrees with the majority and therefore, you will probably always find websites whose reputation you believe is wrong. If this happens, we depend on you to rate the website. This way, when someone who doesn't know the website can learn from your experiences.

McAfee SiteAdvisor? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I used siteadvisor because it was linked on Yahoo!, BUT now I'll use WOT. It is more complex.
