WOT Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I have WOT on 2 of my 3 computers and I discovered months ago, that my own website was rated: "Dangerous"....My company's website is far from the main source of income, it is rather a showroom for the sales performed in...live.(http://www.mcmlondon.com.).I even never performed any large scale emailing from my website...
I got pretty put off by WOT, because either spamming, phishing, child safety, vendor's reliability ( we have archives of 100% satisfaction guaranteed emails from clients ) is to be questioned, there is too much at stake, considering our only client. ( US GS personnel.) Now I just checked, and the situation has improved a bit, it says: question mark....But please WOT, do not rate websites in red when they've never made any such offense as spamming, phishing, malwaring, scarewaring, virus spreading etc....I got offended and I haven't got, (nor my clients) time to ask my clients to download WOT in order to rate my website properly. Also, I've happened to go onto poorly rated sites by WOT and not one problem has occured.( I use AVG 9.0 and not even a trace of malware, vaulted virus, once gone onto red rated by WOT sites....).So, I am not impressed at all with WOT, unlike very other add-on I got from Firefox, my very preferred browser.

This has saved me from going to many sites I would have rather not have continued being on, if it were not for the wot scoreboard. What a great feature. I don't see how people can search the web without this essential addon.

A lot of people are saying a lot of criticisms about this addon. But I say, what is the alternative addon/ security system? McAfee? Come on! Firewall? Oh Please! And of course there are going to be misratings, just like there are going to be misratings in every judicial system in the world! And a lot of innocent people may be put to jail. But tell us please of a better alternative. It's not perfect, but I still bet it saved me from viruses and scams a lot, however high the opportunity cost of the "good sites that are misrated" might be.

For as many as u complain about using ''wot'' you all obviously cant read how to use wot.It explains and gives u option to override any blocked websites that u trust. And ratings are based on bad experience, read all about them in the ratings. No one ever says they rate it bad because they just dont like it but from malware or there shitty computers contracted a virus from it.Wot is by far supurb to any other extention out there, and as far as it slowing down browser!? I cant tell any difference. my browser runs fast as it is and even then i have other extentions to speed up my browser. id give this a 10 star but unfortunetly i can't.

Agree with other negative reviews. Tried WOT for a month and I found:

It slows down browser.

Ratings completely unreliable. Ratings are not moderated and sited can receive a poor rating just because some user doesn't like the site, or suspects malware when none is present.

Bottom line: WOT is comprised of too many nannies trying to censor the web and too many ignorant Chicken Little's screaming "Virus!".

Learn how to secure your computer, and exercise some common sense, and you won't need garbage like this.

Beware Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This addon offers a whole bunch of properties to keep it away from any browser:

1. Threatened privacy: Are you aware that every site you ever visit is sent to the central WOT server, logged, saved and this information is possibly/probably sold to one of the many companies WOT has contracts with?

2. Missing reliability: Meanwhile here are lots of reports confirming that a great number completely legitimate harmless sites are rated badly - and poor reputations for so many of my most reliable sites. Wondering about it?
Remember any user can rate a site and there are a lot out there who rate a site at good will or just for fun, maybe because of the color used. I even found some malware sites rated fairly good.

3. Bad web experience: The addon actively adds advertising material in form of related links to your search results (massive sponsorship) but if you like such advertisings you should have no problem.

4. Slows down your connection: The constant traffic to the WOT servers consumes a lot of bandwidth and slows down the browsing.

Thank you, 4 weeks WOT are enough, good bye!

Re: Beware

1. The add-on sends as little information to our servers as possible and all logs are deleted after a month. No information about users is sold or given out to anyone. Read more from our privacy policy: http://www.mywot.com/privacy

2. Perhaps you could give some examples next time? It's quite possible that other people simply don't trust the same websites you do and they probably have a good reason for this. You may also want to read this if you are concerned about people manipulating ratings: http://www.mywot.com/wiki/FAQ#Common_misconceptions

3. The add-on adds search refinements to Google searches. They aren't ads and you can easily disable them by clicking the [x] next to the refinement links.

4. The traffic to request reputations is negligible compared to the website you are loading. Typically only a few hundred bytes and rarely more than 1kB per request. Reputations are also cached for half an hour, so not many requests are made in the first place. This will most certainly not slow down your network even if you are still using a dial-up connection.

What's the point of having the option to "ignore this warning", "this site is safe I want to rate it", but not the option to leave it permanently? Seems like a nobrainer. How about letting us click the ratings in google search results for our own reference instead of having to log in and rate the darn site?

Too many good and perfectly safe sites have unsatisfactory or poor ratings but still a very useful security tool in conjunction with Safe Web or SiteAdvisor.

Vorsicht vor WOT Rated 1 out of 5 stars

I think there should be a way to edit more of the options from a menu rather than having to go to the website.
and also i would like an option to remove that yellow bar that shows up at the top, since it already shows me the big block on first load.
and now whenever i go to certain pages, it always shows that annoying bar and theres no way to keep it fully removed, the minute i click on the X, it comes right back.

other than that its ok.

I strongly suggest adding the WOT software add-on to your system. It's one of the best security tools for surfacing the internet!

I like the idea of everybody contributing to the greater good. The more reviews a website receives the more accurate the rating will be; and the more effective and safe the WOT software will become.

Great program!
