Not trustworthy Rated 1 out of 5 stars

My first experience with MyWOT was someone noting it had a bad rating for my own website. A week or so later, I have come to the realization that this site really is a scam: the powerful "community" members are enabled in slander that gets enforced by this Firefox add-on.

A true web of trust tells you a reputation based on your own ratings and how those people you trust have rated others. Instead, MyWOT weighs ratings globally, based on number of ratings made by the rating user. This means the more people spam with ratings, the more valuable their ratings become!

Finally, this site elevates some members to "trusted third-parties" and shows their rating regardless of overall ratings. At least one of these "trusted third-parties" maliciously makes false accusations against innocent sites, accusing them of "engaging in the distribution of malware" when they do nothing of the sort.

Edit: No, I don't seem to be confused. Your own FAQ link admits spammers' ratings are weighed far more than the probable legitimate users. I did contact the "third-party" and they are willfully slandering our site, as blackmail to force us to degrade our services. Requesting more reviews is useless because using our service requires a lot of technical background, because people are likely to just go with the "third-party trusted" slander, and finally because MyWOT is biased toward the bad guys' ratings.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (20120515).

You appear to be confused. The number of ratings has nothing to do with how much ratings are trusted and the term third-party trusted sources refers to external malware and phishing blacklists, such as PhishTank and SURBL, for example. You can read more from our FAQ:

If your site has been blacklisted by a third-party source, you should contact them to get your site delisted. You can also request more reviews on our forum, because the reputations are ultimately decided by user ratings:
