Saving sanity and productivity Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Sometimes, like a horse that could use a good pair of blinders, I find myself needing to stay focused during my work day, and with this and Leechblock, I'm very well able to stay undistracted by regular (bad) web surfing habits. With one tab for music and another for my main task, I have to derail what I'm working on to goof around, and that fact keeps me on a relative straight and narrow. Very happy with this add-on, which never causes crashes, is simple to manage, and is very, very effective. Once I have a few bucks to donate I will.

Not for heavy tab users! Rated 1 out of 5 stars

When doing research I often have 100+ tabs open. Setting the limit to 100 tabs and reopening a session that had 120 tabs forced me to kill firefox and wipe my session or hit cancel 120 times.

Been using now for a long time. Still a great addon!

I am now using this addon on all four of my OS's. It's still perfect, and does exactly what it is designed to do. Let you know when you've reached YOUR preset limit for open tabs, and nag you until you do something about it.

Every poor review here except one is baseless. This addon is not a popup blocker. To complain it doesn't work as one is just ridiculous. There are no "bugs" but it could use some few improvements a program not working the way you want it to is not a bug. A bug is when a program does things it shouldn't. This one does nothing it shouldn't do as far as I can tell. I don't even understand the suggestion to put a warning dialog in it. It has a warning dialog. It opens by default unless you set it to silent mode, gives you a list of all open tabs in all windows, and allows YOU to choose which ones should be closed.

Some added features might be nice, but frankly I don't think they are a good idea.

@ the developer: If I were you I would ditch silent mode altogether until you get it working in a more sophisticated manner. (with settings we can set to determine its behavior). I know that could be complicated and probably tend to be buggy. I would just get rid of it.

@users considering this addon: Keep in mind that tabs ARE windows. There is no difference. The only difference is in how they are displayed. Therefore, "windows" and "tabs" within this addon are the same thing. When the alert pops up, you get list of ALL tabs in ALL windows. It doesn't differentiate between tabs in one window or another. You've got to READ the list, and THINK.

This is not a lazy man's addon.

It is a simple way for you to limit your own sloppy behavior, and nag you to clean up after yourself.

It also a fantastic tool for Administrators. Install this thing on all your department computers, set it to "Force" and set a password. It'll force your users to clean up their acts, and quit wasting your time complaining their programs won't respond.

Silent mode fix Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Please fix the silent mode to close the latest opened tab or give us the ability to choose either to close the first or the last!
Thanks!

Excellent extension. Now updated for Firefox 4. Does what it should and works well in staying focused and having too many windows open!

Strange approche. Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Useless extension. The first two mods are annoying, but, "silent" one is even worst then those two combined. It would make sens to me to prevent additional tab/window from starting, but closing what is already opened seems...

Good idea, poor design Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I hate how firefox isn't blocking popups anymore. I found this addon and thought I'd just set the window limit to 1 which would auto close new windows when using "forced" option. BUT NO... it auto closes the window you already had open leaving only the popup. wtf...

I found (and will report) some bugs.

A warning "You have nine tabs open, and your limit is ten." would be a nice option.

Good but more options Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It works great for what I want. but it would be nice if since there is a way to chose how many windows is the limit being able to set one for the number of tabs would be nice.

Thanks!

Great, but a couple of tweaks would help Rated 4 out of 5 stars

I like the add-on - it helps keep my daughter's browser a little peppier since she doesn't have 100+ tabs open!

However, we would both like to see a couple of improvements:

1) With the "Force" option, have a way to cancel out of the "New Tab" dialog so you aren't forced to delete a tab. This option would just get you back to where you were.

2) Have some sort of counter displayed so you know how many tabs you have open, so you know how many more you have "available."

Would love to use this add-on as its a great idea but there is no option to choose which tabs close - such as oldest, next to current tab or a tab position on tab bar. Until then I'll have to wait.

There should be a separate limit for tabs and windows (e.g. Max Windows: 2, Max Tabs: 20).

A hybrid mode would also be useful, allowing values for both suggest/force modes (e.g. Max Windows: 2/3, Max Tabs: 20/30).

Finally, there should be some way to save pages for later, by allowing to bookmark them easily, perhaps by adding one of the following for each tab listed in the close-tabs dialog: either a dropdown field listing the bookmark folders tree, or adding the empty star bookmarking icon that looks and works just like the one in the location bar.

works just as intended, though i couldn't open the settings (however, i could change them via about:config). i set it to silent mode with a limit of 10 tabs on my 2yo's browser, as being two he has a habit of just opening tons of tabs, and as his "computer" is another X session on my computer, he'd open lots of things which would slow me down or sometimes grind things to a halt!

Only one problem for me:
if you open a new instance of firefox with a command such as:

firefox "http://www.google.com"

it will bypass Tab Limiter and allow more than the limit of tabs.

I really find this add-on helpful especially in my line of work. I have in the past found myself inundated with opened tabs and been thoroughly frustrated with trying to go back and find what I need.

However, I also use tab protection to ensure that tabs I require to always stay on the board do so. Where I find an issue is that when I have reached my tab limit, it absolutely refuses to close an unused tab and open another tab if I have one of my tabs protected to prevent closing.

While the concept is great, and it is an add-on which is very much needed by some, I feel some tweaks need take place. For instance, having this add-on ignore protected or locked tabs.

Does just what it says on the box, and is definitely stable, but it is possible to accidentally close a needed tab, so it's not without flaw.
