Works but not perfect Rated 3 out of 5 stars

When I right click on a Youtube link the context menu items of this add-on are first, which is quite annoying. I would prefer them to be under "Open Link in New Tab".

It would also be handy if it would work with raw videos, eg. MP4s.

great BUT Rated 4 out of 5 stars

fantastic essential, However, possibly with recent FF updates, this plugin stalls the closing of FF, and sometimes will cause a FF crash reporting "Shutdown too long, possibly froze, causing a crash"

Please fix the CPU usage bug Rated 1 out of 5 stars

This addon uses a significant amount of CPU cycles even at idle with a single empty tab, enough to turn up the fan on my laptop.

Simple and efficient Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great pluggin. Do what it says.
You should add the support of Youtube Gaming. Would be nice. Thanks !

Code needs updating Rated 2 out of 5 stars

So far does not working on anything in my subscription feed, google must of changed something up or your plugin is out of date for code, im sure quick code update/check will fix this issue cant give 5 stars if doesnt work but not one star only because ive seen this in action and it works bretty good bro

stopped working for most Youtube videos Rated 2 out of 5 stars

I honestly couldn't find a way to report this bug - the linked GitHub page doesn't have an issue tracker, and no e-mail address is listed anywhere.

Most videos I click on Youtube these days report a 403 forbidden message in the VLC log. This started happening roughly three months ago.

(I checked CPU usage after seeing the latest reviews mentioning it, but for me it seems like it's a difference between 1% and 3%)

Massive CPU Hit Rated 1 out of 5 stars

Causes Firefox to peg CPU core 1 (100%) and 50% core 2. Took a while to troubleshoot and find this offending extension to remove it. Never even tried it for functionality because I would not use anything that drains resources to this extent. Should be fixed or taken down..

Thanks for the feedback, it seems that you are not the only one with this issue. I will look into why it takes so much CPU power.

Great but consumes an anormally amount of CPU Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I like it but I don't use it because it uses too many CPU on FFx64 on W10.

Thanks for the feedback, I will look into the issue of why it takes too much CPU.

Needed & mostly works Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I'm rocking some older (but quality) hardware so I prefer to use something else then Youtube's or Adobe's bloatware. This add-on helps a lot. Some Youtube's sidebar (related) links doesn't seem to work (quite a few) but other than that it's very nice.

Works, but ... Rated 3 out of 5 stars

I don't know why, this addon take several cpu procent :( on Linux

Excellent Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Your add-on is a godsend for those with an older computer.
Can you please add support for the mobile links as well? Like these: https://m.youtube.com/watch?v=******* Your add-on seem to ignore those links, but if you paste the link into VLC manually it plays it perfectly.

Works well Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Upgraded to VLC 2.2.0 Weatherwax (64bit) and this extension works with it for most everything, however, the links that I get in e-mail (from youtube subscribed channels) do not give me a right-click context option to open in VLC. Can we get a fix on that?

"VLC Youtube Shortcut" button on Youtube pages Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Please, make "VLC Youtube Shortcut" button under player on Youtube pages . Uncomfortable to use the item in context menu. A lot of addons have similar buttons for their functions on the Youtube.

Support 64 bit VLC or 32 bit VLC? Rated 5 out of 5 stars

I once reported "How to handle Youtube https protocol? " on March 27, 2014 for previous review.

VLC is unable to open the MRL Your input can't be opened:
VLC is unable to open the MRL 'https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=........'. Check the log for details.

But I recently found the problem is not 100% actually related to HTTPS or HTTP url differention, but with 64bit VLC.

Before I tried VLC Liberykey Portable version and installed VLC 64 bit standalone version on Win 8.1 X64. So I set VLC executable file location:
C:\Programme Files\VLC\vlc.exe
and
C:\LiberKey\Apps\VLC\VLCLKL.exe

VLC media player - http://www.liberkey.com/apps/vlc.en

Both liberkey version and standalone 64 bit version have same MRL error message when pass Youtube url to VLC and play. VLC Liberykey Portable version actually has both x86 and x64 included. On 64 bit system, VLC Liberkey version tends to run x64 by default. So I alway get the error message.

But I recently set the VLC executable file location:
C:\LiberKey\Apps\VLC\App\VLC\x86\vlc.exe

Error messay never showed up.

I try to insert Youtube url directly through VLC Menu > Media > Open Network Stream without using "VLC Youtube Shortcut" , VLC 64bit always has MRL error problem, while VLC x86 never.

So it looks like vlc X64 version has problem handling youtube url.I don't know why.

Thanks for your time.

Great but missing quality selection Rated 4 out of 5 stars

As someone stated before me, the missing quality selection is quite a bummer.

Not sure if you know about it, but there are codes for the different quality options and codecs, that could be added to the url, like "&fmt=18" for MP4 360p H.264, where 18 is the codec code.
a list of codes can be found here:
http://en.wikipedia.org/wiki/YouTube#Quality_and_codecs

If you tried that already and it didn't work, than never mind :)

Edit: tested the Non-Dash, and all non 3D one seem to work just fine when opened directly in VLC

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.3.1-signed).

Hello, thank you for the feedback. I didn't know about specifying the quality through the url, I'll be sure to check it out and implement it as soon as I'm able.

regexp how to? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Someone told about used regexp?I don't understand how it works. by the way l/ubuntu
better regexp:
function ytVidId(url) {
var p = /^(.*)?youtu\.?be(.*)?\/(watch|embed)\?(.*)?v(%3|=)([^%&#]*)(.*)/i;
return (url.match(p)) ? RegExp.$6 : false;
}

Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Nice! Much better then using normal youtube.

A config to use left and/ or middleclick would be nice. See this comment: https://addons.mozilla.org/en/firefox/addon/vlc-youtube-shortcut/reviews/637790/

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.3.1-signed).

Hello bob2, and thank you for the suggestion. Since there have been comments asking for the left and/or middleclick feature, I'll update the addon as soon as I get the chance.
Unfortunately, I'm currently busy with other projects at the moment, but I'll try to update as soon as possible.

Great, but... Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Great idea, but I have the impression that VLC then always plays the highest YT-resolution. Not good for older hardware like mine. Can you do something about this? Some choice of resolutions?

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.3.1-signed).

Hello, thank you for the feedback. I'm not sure if this is a restriction to VLC, but I will look into it and see if there's a possibility for VLC to play lower resolution videos.

Good, but missing resolutions. Rated 4 out of 5 stars

It works smoothly, but only plays up to 720p quality.
It would be perfect if it could handle sending the dash A/V streams to VLC so that we could always enjoy the best quality.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (0.7.3.1-signed).

Hello avada, and thank you for the feedback.
Unfortunately, this seems to be an issue with VLC player, and I'm not sure if I can resolve it. If anyone knows how to play 1080p or higher youtube videos, please let me know, and I will gladly update the extension to work with those resolutions.
