any one got it Working without and other add-on? Rated 4 out of 5 stars

hi all,

does anyone know how to get this add-on working with Firefox v43.0.1 without any other add-on? I am tired of using the add-on "NEW CUSTOM TAB" or others just so that this add-on will work?

When i select the page i want it to go to open new empty tab with this URL "about:viewmarks?folder=773" but it does not work?

Why has there been no updates to this fantastic add-on.. i am lost without this add-on it is simply what firefox should be like with its bookmarks..

Please Michael can you update this add-on.

Found a temporary Solution Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Hi all,

I have found that if you put the url that is in ViewMarks for example....about:viewmarks?folder=3 straight into the Firefox Homepage url section, Firefox will open the ViewMarks homepage of your choice rather than a Firefox Homepage...

Only drawback with this is that you don't have a homepage to go to temporarily as pressing on the home page button in Firefox brings you always back to the ViewMarks folders that you have chosen, this is of course until Michael hopefully fixes this add-on to work with the changes made in Firefox 41.0.

P.S. Have found a new add-on that will let this function correctly once installed in FF 41.0...

It's called CUSTOM NEW TAB 3.0
https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/custom-new-tab/?src=search

hope this helps....

HERE GOES GUYS......

Mozilla removes option to change New Tab Page from Firefox
By Martin Brinkmann on June 28, 2015 in Firefox - Last Update: June 28, 2015 114

Users of the Firefox web browser have had options until now to replace the default New Tab page of Firefox with a custom one using the built-in preference browser.newtab.url.

It was for instance possible to set it to a blank page to block the New Tab page functionality in Firefox which became popular after the introduction of a redesigned New Tab page in Firefox, or to set it to a favorite web service or website instead which would then be opened whenever a new tab page was created in the browser.

Mozilla noted some time ago that the useful feature was abused by companies who replaced the New Tab page in the browser with a custom version, for instance during software installations as third-party offers but also in malicious ways directly without opt-out.

The browser.newtab.url preference has no exposed UI, is not really supported, and is abused by search hijackers. We should remove it and encourage people using a non-default new tab page to install an add-on instead.

That's why the organization made the decision to remove the preference browser.newtab.url from Firefox 41.

disable firefox newtab page

While it is certainly improving user protection, as hijackers won't be able to use the preference anymore to modify the new tab page in Firefox using it, it is removing an option from Firefox that some users used to customize the browser's New Tab Page.

It is unfortunate that the change is introduced at a time in which Mozilla is facing criticism over recent New Tab page changes that introduces advertisement on the page.

The change, which just rolled out in the most recent Nightly version of the web browser affects users who modified the preference manually or through add-ons. Those who have customized the New Tab page will notice that the customization does not work anymore after they upgrade Firefox to a version in which the preference has been removed.

Firefox users who fell victim to tools that changed the New Tab page automatically without their consent benefit from this as the New Tab page is reset automatically as a consequence.

Some add-ons that provide functionality to change the New Tab page in Firefox may have stopped working however and while it is likely that some will be updated to restore it, it will make add-ons unusable who are not updated, for instance because they have been abandoned by their authors.

The functionality to change the New Tab page in Firefox is still available to add-on developers who can create or modify extensions for the browser to provide users with that functionality.

This is not the first time that long-standing preferences have been removed from Firefox. Mozilla removed the popular keyword.url parameter in Firefox 23 for instance which allowed you to set a different search provider in the address bar than the one used by the search form of the browser.

Mozilla wanted add-on developers to re-introduce the functionality to Firefox for users who made use of it back then. The organization has the same stance this time.

The Firefox add-on New Tab Override [https://addons.mozilla.org/en-US/firefox/addon/new-tab-override/] has been created recently to re-introduce the functionality in Firefox 41 and later.

Install the add-on in Firefox using the link above.
Open about:addons after installation and locate it in the list of extensions.
Click the options button next to it.
Replace the about:newtab resource in the URL field on the page that opens with another url that you want to use.

final steps Rated 5 out of 5 stars

hi Life artist....

What you need to do now is go into your viewmarks folder... mine is in the folder

extensions\{7443739c-bff6-4af0-aea5-7ed29006966c}\chrome\content

in there you will find the file viewmakrs.js.....

once you see this file open it by clicking with your right mouse button and hit EDIT option....

now go to the link that NRR has posted and open this up and copy all the conent of that link by right clicking in the browser and select the option "SELECT ALL" and then "COPY"..

now go back to the EDITOR that you have open and select all the txt in that editor and delete it all and then hit paste with your right mouse button to copy all the content from the web browser into that editor file and then hit save...

you can then exit everything and all should be fine....

hope this helps

Although it would be easier for everyone if Michael Koch could release a quick update which includes this quick easy fix for everyone....

Who knows if he comes here to check the posts?

Hi with the recent updates to firefox v32.0 & 32.0.1 it seems that it has broken your GUI intergration of Viewmarks...

When you click with the right click button nothing is in the menu it is there but it is blanked out....

Also when you click on the star button it brings up the bookmark save options of the original firefox browser...

Can you please look into this option as your app is simply the best.....

Trash Can on main folders !!!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi i love what you have done with this add-on... its nothing short of fantastic... but i have one gripe...

i have so far 2 times accidentally hit the TRASH ICON on the main folder of my favorites/viewmarks/bookmarks... ect ect... and this has deleted all 500 bookmarks that were in that folder and in any subsequent folder within that folder.....

this is annoying as i have had to rebuild them from Firefox...

surely you should have an option come up that when you hit that button whether it be for a legitimate reason or by accident that the option comes up to confirm that you really want to do delete and place the item in the trashcan?

Can you please look into this as it is really annoying loosing all the bookmarks because of an accidental hit on the trashcan option on each individual folder created or even like me my main folder that then carries the sub folders within it....

Please I ask that you update this feature urgently.....

When Right Click on a saved link issue !!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi thank you so much for fixing the few issues i mentioned in my previous review.. although it is slightly faster at showing the saved bookmarks they are still slower than the older version1.0.5 which would be instant and no sign of refresh... so another look at that would be fantastic....

the only other issue i have now is that when you right click on a saved bookmark you have added the "OPEN IN THIS TAB" as the first option rather than the more obvious option of "OPEN IN NEW TAB" like in the old version....

Can you please fix this issue as i see no point in having the option to open the bookmark in this tab when all you have to do is click on the it if that is what you want?

thanks
BTW... i love you work and this ad-don is a life saver....

SEARCHING PROBLEM !!! Rated 5 out of 5 stars

Hi can you please fix the issue that is causing grief for me and i am sure for others...

although i do like what you have tried to achieve with this update and i appreciate your work a lot... but the changes have made Firefox slower.. when i open my bookmarks they take time for the pic/images of the pages saved to load... they seem to refresh slower... not sure really what the changes are but its really annoying...

Also i liked it when the images started furthest to the left and completely filled the web page to the right of the column with out this centered option.. maybe allow for the old look to-also work in your new update for those that don't like the new look.

When i open a new tab in firefox in the previous version 1.0.5 of your work of art... the searching option was automatically achieved in the URL BAR of FIREFOX... now it goes into your searching bar of the add-on... which is annoying because when you have so many saved pages and just typing in a particular word that might also be used for many other saved pages/bookmarks it brings up a lot of pages... where before i typed the closest word in the URL bar and firefox found the closest matching bookmark....this option is still there but because you have set your add-on to auto search in the search bar on your add-on and not in the browser URL bar this is a two step function that was a simple open the new tab and search in your previous version.. please bring this option back...

althoug i have a few gripes i do really appreciate your hard work and look forward to many more updates to your add-on which once all these small issues are ironed out and you sort out the slowing / refresh rates of the actual pages this version will spot on... looking forward to your thoughts and reply...

New Tab Rated 3 out of 5 stars

Hi.

Can you please fix the issue that i am having since your new update.

When i open a new tab in the previous version I could type straight away in the actual url section of the browser but now it types inside your search bookmarks tab of the viewmarks...

this is quite anoying as the previous version was so much easier as i could go and type away and it would find the link in my favorites straight away...

Can you please fix it so that it reverts back to the old way please...or at least add an option where we can change this is we want...
BTW on my machine it seems that since the latest release if you have lots of saved web pages in a folder they take a while to update to show the image where in the previous version 1.05 it was so fast?
thanks
