I used this to download a thirty second FLV clip for a presentation at school - and it worked fine Saved video, same quality, etc.
When I was downloading a divx movie from a divx player on browser to burn to a DVD... high quality... It saved the file... Then it does some kind of self-encrypting and tells you that the Converthelper is necessary.... Another download...
The converthelper puts a big logo in the video you want to convert, and it says to get rid of it, you have to pay $29.00 to fully register converthelper.
As a linux user, and strong supporter of open source, freeware, etc., I believe it is somewhat a 'slap in the face' to take an add-on for something like FireFox that is free, and encourages development, and slap a huge registration cost to it for something these developers know they can make a quick buck on.
I have been using the "YouTubeDownloader+" add-on now and works great. It saves the files in the original format without modifying them to get you to do pointless downloads or pay hefty prices.
I find this program almost unethical, but a light user might find this suitable.

You didn't get the point.
Video DownloadHelper captures videos from sites. It downloads videos, in the format available on the server for free, 100% free !
You have the capability to complement Video DownloadHelper with a converter. The option is not enabled by default: you enabled it and installed the external converter application (note that is takes 2 clicks to disable it again). To get the full converter feature, it costs 28.50$. Otherwise, you get a logo in the videos that is smaller than the logo of most sites you will get anyway.
Is that because we provide you with a product for free, DownloadHelper, that we must give away everything we do ? Do you realize we also have to eat ?
Talking about linux, if you were a linux user, as i am, you would have noticed that the conversion feature is free on this platform, as well as it is on Mac. It's commercial on Windows only. So you are a Microsoft customer, did you also complain to them about paying for your OS ?

Sure you work fine for basic normal videos on youtube or other mainstream wesites, but you don't go any further !!
I can't get very high definition videos on youtube. Sure I have the HQ18 options and so on, but when I download those the quality isn't as high as it could be. Using another software I got the higher image quality I was looking to save !!
Furthermore, this app doesn't work on ANY site other then youtube !! Maybe I just have bad luck in choosing my websites but really... Pointless...
This gets a 2... for trying very hard...
Now don't get me wrong the software in itslef is very well built, it's use is intuitive, and works great, but it doesn't work in useful ways, so it ends up being a very crafty useless thing...Rated 2 out of 5by Sauceplz, 9 years agoDeveloper response
You will never get a better quality than the one that is available on YouTube servers !
Concerning other sites, it works at least with the ~850 sites listed here: http://www.downloadhelper.net/sites.phpposted 9 years agoProgram works as stated, but has forced FX to display it's welcome page every time I open FX. It's persistent display is in addition to my regular home page. Have tried possible solutions from their KB, but didn't work. Solution in KB is old - for older version of DH and FX, and there is no more support from them - they closed it down.
There are no settings available to change the in DownloadHelper Options, FX Options, about:config, etc.
Tried to uninstall, restart FX, it is still there - did this 3 times. Cannot find any reference to it in Program Files, under any Mozilla file folder, or even in the registry. Would you realize that Firefox is just restoring your browsing session ?
Just quit Firefox the proper way (menu Files/Quit) and restart. If it still doesn't fix the problem,

Nomatter what browser I am in, i always copy and paste the URL into Firefox and use download helper to get the MULTIPLE MP3s that are one page. Great for us folks that love some of these sights that offer an entire album for free but only offer them in individual files. It is a drag to click each one at a time , so in comes the help of download helper TO THE RESCUE. EASY SIMPLE AND CONSISTENT.

First link from youtube opened with normal speed, but other links had open very very slow.

Please see http://bugzilla.downloadhelper.net/show_bug.cgi?id=5 , it's a firewall problem. But there are some workarounds like disabling youtube high-quality search from DownloadHelper preferences.

Any tool is good for who need this and can use it...
It's a very, very useful one, it's free of charge, so that can anybody comment about?
At this time I can tell only good fings about Download helper, as a user, who have not developed any kind of ads.
Easy to use, no conflict with other running programs, doing the job...
Adding to Firefox, downloading a file, where is no indication of download speed-file size and remaining time, until the process is finished.
About donation: personally living from a mid "size" pension in Romania, having no bank account, I have no possibilities to pay online, even if I do want to pay.
If, by a must-pay option will stand, many unwanted people will say good bye to this friendful, very handy option.
Until when (hoping never will occcour...)
