Unwanted redirects Rated 4 out of 5 stars

Overall, this add-on is a time-saver, and I've used it for quite a while. However, there are some weird redirects that shouldn't happen with legit urls.

One example I can think of off the top of my head is Overstock.com's url "o.co" This is a perfectly valid url. However, URL Fixer will automatically redirect you to Twitter's service "t.co", which is not helpful and actually wastes time. This can be worked around by always having the prompt appear when you type in a url URL Fixer thinks is wrong, but this mitigates the time-saving factor that is the key to this add-on. Please look into this, dev(s)!

Thanks!

Wow! Wish I had found this earlier. I often mistype the same website names for some reason, but url fixer catches my mistakes and send me to the right websites. If your like me, try this addon. You won't regret it!

come on people, look a little bit before complaining. Smartlinks can be disabled. First, it asks you during install if you want to enable the feature or not. Then, even if you selected to enable it you can still disable them afterward: Look at your Firefox menu under Tools --> Smartlinks. Took me less than 10 seconds to find it.

Would be much more useful if rules were customizable, but for the impatient, who can't wait for cfinke ;-): extract chrome/url-fixer.jar (simple zip will do), look at content/url-fixer.js.
From around line 134, you see the rules. Play with them.
Note: all your modifications will probably be overwritten at next update.
Note: do NOT ask for support about the rule syntax.
Note: use it on your own risk! If it is not working (at all) a remove+install extension might solve the issue.

I write these tips only for those, who wants to use this excellent feature, and are not afraid of some coding.

Grats and creds to cfinke!

I've developed a premium version of URL Fixer that allows you to customize the correction rules: http://www.chrisfinke.com/marketplace/url-fixer-plus.php

While I can't customize the URLs I miss, this extension gets them for me around 98% of the time and is ESSENTIAL to my workflow in Firefox. I can't recommend it enough; it's a must have for anyone with fast fingers!

Five stars and well deserved.

Worthless to me as well. Why can't it fix urls like mozilla.om? It never catches those. And I can't remember EVER entering .con rather than .com. Without the ability to customize urls to fix, it's useless in my browsing.

This review is for a previous version of the add-on (1.6).

Because...

Because mozilla.om could be a valid URL. .om is a valid TLD, just like .com.

This is a really great add on!!

Its a very simple but a must have plug in!!

I am sure lots of users have typed in a url only to type .con instead of .com I know I have a lot of times when I type too fast.

This plug in fixes that issue! :)

I am downloading this now, it seems great, as I make these stupid typos a lot. Something like this should be built into Firefox.
