by pol098, 7 years agoComparing the Update Scanner for FF57, as of 21Nov17, with its predecessor: I much prefer the old version. The new version opens sites in a page of its own, with a name like "moz-extension://f79626ca- etc. etc.". If you click on a link in the page it no longer works; on seeing a list of changed files, you can't click on any of them. This is a major issue for me.
It was convenient, with the sidebar opened, to click there to scan all pages. There may be ways round these issues, but they're not obvious. A nuisance, not major. I usually scan manually, setting the automatic scan to once weekly.
As many have commented, the scanner often reports pages to have been changed when there is no visible change; I expect that is unavoidable due to the nature of the pages, but is a nuisance.
On balance I still find the current version better than nothing; in particular I have a list of sites to remind me which to check. But it's got worse.

When you visit the Github page of this project, you see why, the add-on isn't maintained for a long time (almost 5 years) and the developer says he is not able to maintain it anymore.
Unfortunate because it was a great project, which really worked fine. - Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 14643647, 6 months agoWOW! I've been searching for tool like this for a long time. Thank you!

As many others say, it would be nice to be able to set a shorter than 5 minute refresh time when you have system resources to spare and want to be first to a site change. It integrates with Notification Sound (another Firefox add-on) so that it plays a sound, and you can choose a nicer one from C:\Windows\Media. It would be cool if it would also send notification emails, or integrate with a future "Notification Emails" (which does NOT exist) since the site I am following is updated at midnight and my PC is a long way from my bed. It does not let us choose a part of a page so pages that have changing adverts are fraught. Fortunately that does not apply to me. All in all, a very nice extension which provides functionality that you would have to pay for from update notification website services. Thank you Sneaky Pete.

- Rated 5 out of 5by Firefox user 13874875, 3 years ago

- Rated 1 out of 5by davidphillips, 4 years agoThis was a brilliant add-on for many years. In the last days I get no updated page changes even though they have been scanned. No error message either. Have tried installing the extension on another PC with the same result.
